The stone wall looks fantastic, and Max is doing a superb job better being outside than sat in the house playing a gaming machine or on his fone great Job James and Max
Loved the wall building - did the same with my dad many years ago, Max will tell his children how he built that with his dad, lovely legacy. The last wall we did together my father wrote a note and put it in a plastic bag in a tin so maybe one day someone will discover it 🙂
Hi James + Max , You both have done a great job on the stone wall looks like it been there for years and building it to the traditional method that will last for many a year. As always a great video catch you soon take care
You do yourself down. The wall looks great it matches in with the rest perfectly. I did a lot of labouring for a dry stone Waller when I was young. The walling we did was mare course based.because that is what was around the area. I was always told that a dry stone wall that had the topstones (which were usually semi circular) concreted on lasted a shorter time because if the wall moved it would leave the topstones suspended with no support and the weight would eventually bring them down sometimes bringing some of the wall with them. Fantastic family memories.
AWESOME JOB , luvly to see stone walls, is this the only stone wall you will be doing around your farm ? , looking forward to it being planted out and for it to get established, thanks for sharing your family time with us all👍👍
Hi James, as you said in an ideal you would have filled the middle of the wall with mortar or concrete and then capped the top with mortar or concrete also however what you have done is perfectly acceptable as a rustic garden wall keep the weeds out of it within reason and it should last for years. A great example of make do and mend with only your time invested a good job in my book👍
Another job ticked off the list of many. Blended in well. I too am of the walling with earth as though building a Devon or East Cornwall bank. Many around below or under a hedge that have stood 300 odd years occasionally with some repair work. Presume that was an old cattle yard ? Or possibility of it being an original lane /track to the property years ago. I do enjoy stamping my mark on the land for future generations to appreciate.
As President for life of the International Drystone Walling Organisation I think you will find the following... Just thought I would get in ahead of the grey jumper lot.
The wall looks really tidy, and your son is a credit to you, hardworking family

100% thanks Daniel 👍🏼 love make doing and mending
I would avoid using concrete as settling is likely and this unflexability can create problems, plus it ruins stone for future re-use.😊😊
I agree 👍🏼

I think you could be right that it was a cattle or maybe sheep yard years ago. Thanks Chris
Old shed with cobble floor???
😊😊😊😊
Looks good to me 😊could you put a pecker on the digger and just peck holes where the trees will be planted allowing enough room for water ?
