Dr. Getz mentions the Golden Rule, and that is key in avoiding exploiting others in order to achieve selfish goals. However, we have many people who, if you mentioned the Golden Rule, would say it means “He who makes the gold rules” or “Do it to others before they do it to you.” So, the answer is, as always, a personal relationship with Jesus as Savior and Lord. Even then, if one is still living according to the flesh, and selfish, he/she will need to make it a matter of daily prayer and yielding to the Holy Spirit's work in this area. It is only as we empty ourselves of self that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit and the kind of love that looks to the needs of others even if at the expense of one's own comfort or advancement.
