This is purely speculation on my part, but I think the reason Ma squeezed Meinya so much is because she(?) thought Meinya was a plushie. Since the balancing takes what's valuable to Ma, which seems to be a collection of plushies, Ma is clearly very fond of them. I don't think Ma was being malicious or cruel, just misguided.
I think this is actually pretty good, I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of plushies in the village. Even Belaf had a couple of them in ep. 5.
The girl with red and white hair is Vueko 🥰 (her full name is Vueroeruko)
