Exploration in Starfield wouldn't be so bad if there was more variety in discoverable locations. You can only find the exact same location so many times on different planets before it gets boring. The side quests are pretty fun though.
With all the hype surrounding this franchise right now, the best thing to do so they can correlate with the show, is drop NV2. It would shake the internet. If they can get a game out during Season 2, most logical thing for that company to do.
Would it though? A NV2 can never succeed. Not only is the team that made the first one not together anymore, but NV is just too overhyped. The community has set NV on such a high bar in their minds that anything short of the second coming would be ripped to shreds. And yes, I said NV is overhyped; not to say it’s bad, it’s phenomenal, but the fanbase has still somehow found a way to overrate it
@@StevenLeeStudios yeah, that was kind of the point of my comment. People want NV2 because they adore NV, but they’re bound to hate a NV2 because they have unrealistic expectations set in their minds because they somehow have managed to overrate one of the best western RPGs of the past few decades

I wouldn’t even call it funny, the mod author of Dust definitely had the most accurate prediction for what’ll happen after the Second Battle Hoover Dam, if somehow they go that direction, it’d be the greatest direction the lore can possibly take.
I theorize that the Fallout TV show will serve the purpose of establishing the ‘true’ endings of past games in order to create a solid foundation for Fallout 5. I believe this will happen by having Lucy, Cooper, Dogmeat and anyone who joins them will eventually make it to the East Coast in pursuit of Hank, passing through past locations and providing lore on what Bethesda wants the canon timeline to be. Vault City, Gecko, Arroyo, Jacobstown, New Vegas, Hoover Dam, Big MT, The Great Divide, Denver, Chicago, Boston, and finally D.C. and a few points of interest in between and around, such as Harold’s Forest and Project Purity. Whether directly, indirectly or through context clues, such a journey that confirms events in the past as hard canon would remove ambiguity when trying to make a Fallout game for a new generation.
Then you didn't listen to his answer as shown in this video. Paraphrased: "It's always hard when you are going back to a place that had multiple endings, mostly we stick to what definitely happened and try to avoid the rest"

Tod Howard is basically still sticking to 76 and possible remasters being in order until they get to an actual sequel. Still looks like it's all cheap cash grabs until sometime in the 2030's. Elder Scrolls will likely release in 2027-2028, they'll definitely have to do a major revamp of the engine again and then spend another 6 years making fallout. I'm calling 2033 for the next try Fallout game.
Honestly id be happy to see a fallout 3 remake with all the quality of life changes and immersive mechanics of fallout 4 and even a few settlements would be nice as a way to extend the life of some of the smaller settlements that loose significance after their related quest is done. Like imagine being able to help Big Town actually build up their town in to something great or upgrading that one settlement that was on the highway. Obviously larger settlements like megaton or that one ship town dont need to have this feature but just having a little more depth to the world would be nice as an option.
No no no settlements. Look settlements can be fun. But the game needs to be designed around them. But in a game like fallout they just distract from the story and interrupt exploration.
@@markcarpenter6020 idk i feel like modders could pull something like that off. If you werent going to go back to the town because the quest line was done, why not make the more interactable?

@@adazedgamer lol it's in no way required in a crpg. Fallout is an RPG not a looter shooter or a survival sim no matter how much Bethesda wants it to be.
I'm going to translate some key points of the roadmap of Starfield: New ways to travel = more ways to add more load screens. New gameplay options to further adjust difficulty = survival mode. Official mod support with the launch of Creations = paid mods and creation kit added.
Yes. But being less crappy doesn't make something good and that is true for Fallout 76. Yes it got better but it is still bad and worse than fallout 4.
The 'copy/paste' of the locations are what finally got me to put down the controller. Just under 900 hours of playing on Starfield. I'll pick it back up when the DLC drops or modder tools are released.
Starfield would be so amazing if the procedural generation didn’t make the the same mine with the same dead miners on every planet. Laying dead in the exact same way with the same exact bullet holes. And the hand made content feels small. The cities feel small. Neon feels really small. It literally feels like one road and one alleyway.
It would make sense if Bethesda would hand over fallout to a different studio to work on a new fallout game while their working on elder scrolls, maybe involve Tim Cain Josh Sawyer and Chris Avelone to work on it. Waiting 20 plus years for a new fallout game, and that's after elder scrolls get released is bs. Especially after the big hit of the show, they can't just let this franchise hang back while their working on the new elder scrolls game
I don't want another Bethesda Fallout anyway. I want some smaller studio to rediscover what makes Fallout so appealing in the first place, since we know Bethesda's leadership will always be seeing dollar signs before anything else
from what I've seen on the final episode where they show the vaults across the board map there are 2 vaults in Canada one in Montreal and one in Toronto and I think for the next fallout it could be Montreal since Bethesda has an office there which would be a smart choice based on the metro system here and similar to Washington layout but more dense and has a lot of different environment.
Unlikely. Bethesda, iirc, tends to foreshadow the next setting in the games, like the Institute is in 3, and the next TES is probably going to be in Hammerfell. Most likely, it’s going to be San Francisco as that was kinda foreshadowed in 4 and Bethesda told the show runners that they couldn’t set the show in San Francisco. This isn’t even mentioning how Americana is a core aspect of Fallout on both the surface level aspects and deeper, thematic aspects of the lore that would preclude a mainline game set in a foreign nation. A DLC could work, but I wouldn’t expect anything beyond that.
Or Ronto with mtl region. Maybe have it so the cn tower is split in half and it divides the city like a barrier with 2 warring factions. I always thought the annexation of canada and the fact ronto is mentioned in The pitt dlc made me always think bethesda would one day have a story there.
@@NewMateo I think it’s possible it would introduce new things and give them time to work on fallout 6 and fallout 5 would be Montreal and Toronto it would be a smart financial move.
pillars of eternity, the OBSIDIAN RPG, had an intro in its sequel where you could pick which ending you chose in the first game. they could quite easily do that for new vegas 2…
My fiancée is a set decorator. Almost everything you see on a show or movie set is placed intentionally, but, some crews take more care than others. Love the attention to detail this crew used, shout out to the art department! They MADE this show.
I would've loved if Starfield had just precached possible locations you were going to hit up for faster loading so that really all you get is just a blink of a black screen for a few seconds and WHAM! You' in. Next thing I'd like, DLC's has got to add more things and locations and factions and just more STUFF in general.
Biggest thing I hate is that after I full clear any dungeon area, leave, and come back that it's uncleared again. Would be much better to give motivation to clear by keeping things as clear so you can full clear all dungeons on the planet and then full clear all planets. And give a reset button that is 100% manual to reset a whole planets dungeons for those looking to repeat more familiar areas. Instead it all feels pointless to explore. And by dungeons I just mean notable areas.
Or just program it so there is no loading... we aren't living 20 years ago. Many many games have done this. Loading screens outside of your first loading of your save game should be a thing of the past.
I'm really happy that Todd Howard got surprised the overseer office had stacks of detailed documents. As a graphic artist in movies and series, this is part of my job and there's a level of detail we put into it that literally nobody else seem to care about :)
They can't stick to making one thing good. Its like making a bunch of paintings, but before you're 80% done with each painting, you move onto the next. You tell people you're going back to an older painting to polish it up, but really you just scribbled some bs in the bottom right corner and changed the color of someone's hat.
Tim cain has a really really good video about player expectations of a product and I feel like Starfield suffered from player expectations not matching what they got.
It seems like a slightly more sophisticated version of Fallout Shelter. If you like Fallout Shelter you should give it a try (if Castles is in your region)
2:40 I think this is very telling, and may be why we will see Fallout 5 go into what’s going on with other countries within the Fallout universe. I think this is exactly what Todd was talking about when he told the show runners “ don’t do THIS, we’re gonna do that in Fallout 5.” I don’t think the game will be set in another country or anything but it wouldn’t surprise me if we visited one in a dlc or something.
I' love either or. Heck, maybe both, even if there's a few years between them. And maybe something that brings the Midwest Brotherhood back into cannon.
Or if they want one in Texas but want another coastal city like Boston, one set in Galveston could be pretty cool. Especially if they have the USS Texas battleship museum featured in it. Could make a fun faction base or rivet city type thing.
The issue with starfield is not that it's empty, but there are like 3-4 different types of location in the all game (except quest locations) so there's no excitement when you dicover something, because you already saw it 10 times before... the DLC better have a ton of new random locations to make it enjoyable
honestly it does seem like they want to do more then just shattered space but i guess time (and the higher ups) will tell there. It was nice for Todd to be reaffirming that the exploration in SF there for the "Space Game" of it and not just their new standard going forward.
Eh Id prefer they focus all their resources into just a new, quality Fallout game. Especially because of their track record of launching games in poor quality. Fallout 3 doesn't really need a remaster especially since you can just do it yourself with the Tale of Two Wastelands mod and that big mod pack for it
To think about rn. ofc Tod is going to take much more time on Elder Scrolls, as that is HIS game, he was one of the keys to really starting it all. But fallout was already a bit more established due to 1 and 2 already being out before Bethesda acquired the title.
Was established. Past tense. The fallout TV show has done a good job of resetting the west coast to the same lack of development as the east coast. And combine the retcons from 76 and we'll it's like Bethesda is determined to completely rewrite the lore.
@@markcarpenter6020 Im not trying to put down the show. I really love the show. I was just talking about how long it will be for a new fallout. @@simple3794 I'm honestly not putting down the show either. It's one of the better adaptations of a game out there. I was putting down the decision to make it cannon to the games. It should be it's own universe.
@@ncrranger2281 I honestly think that's Howard's plan. Bethesda can't write post post apocalypse. Where society has begun to rebuild. They can only do post apocalypse where people are scavenging in the ruins living in tin shacks.
Yeah, it's not fair to say he doesn't respect it. He just has different ideas for it. Todd likes it all to be a silly cartoon that nobody with a brain can take seriously. "Durrr let's blow the world up to make more monies!!!". And they even had Mr House in that utterly brain dead scene lol
I missed the grapple and finisher animations from Fallout 4 in Fallout 76, made melee combat so much more satisfying, also Deathclaws literally picking you up before skewering you was dope.
The future of Fallout? Killing off what's left of the RPG, making it completely an FPS, and killing off every faction that Bethesda didn't create (except the BoS, which they've mutilated to the point where it's now Diet Enclave).
Not everyone is an Oblivion NPC it seems, you see the damage they done too! Fallout season 2 I expect that they gona ruin New Vegas to be unrecognisable. Just like they did with California.
Should have been making fallout 5 and not starfield. Definitely dropped the ball with the show bringing a ton of eyeballs on the games. Would have been great to have fallout 5 capitalize on the show.
I like Starfield, I just got board. Doesn’t make it a bad game. I’m a little spoiled with mods these days so once they release console mods I’ll be hoping right back in.
Todd Howard presumably made a decent chunk of change when Bethesda was acquired. Yet he has stayed. In recent years, not that many studio heads have remained at their studio beyond the contractually obligated time. If nothing else, Todd deserves respect for being so committed to Bethesda and their franchises. No one can say Todd doesn't love what he does.
Man Todd Howard is like a marketing steel man at this point. Love how he boils the criticism the about Starfields exploration down to "The content is just different from what people expect from a Bethesda game" and not what it actually was. You know, the fact that outside some of the majore cities and hubs, Starfield was an empty, boring wasteland.
Todd is definitely one of those stubborn developers that won't acknowledge their games as very flawed, Bethesda gets paid too much to actually not do much with worse graphics but the games are long.
Louisiana would be a neat new location. New Orleans is cool, maybe there’ll be some French aesthetics. Can’t imagine much, but idk what much else they could do with it. I feel like another good location could be around the Great Lakes. Don’t know where exactly, but a lot of potential there.
People follow the hype, not the facts. Any who thinks that Starfield is a flop or compares it to CP77 is just not paying attention. Just like people have been playing 76 for years, Starfield has a healthy core player base.
Howard needs to retire for the sake of the company and the Fallot brand. He is a gatekeeper blocking really great possible collaborations and he is either lying to us or himself about the latest content Bethesda has produced since Fallout 76. I don't agree with you that his disagreement with the players on Starfield is "fair". It is not. It's arrogant and delusional and it's going to kill this studio. He did NOT have to only put a dozen or so curated spots for the procedural planets. They could have done exactly what the players wanted by making at least 50 or 60 curated locations instead of the few they did. So, he is completely full of it when he pretends it was a design choice and his amazing vision we just didn't appreciate that caused the problems. I worked in a game store (table top not computer) in the 1990s in Bethesda and we even had a recruitment flyer on our bulletin board for the studio because the team came into the shop on a regular basis. Things have sure changed since then, but it feels like he has not.

Exploration in Starfield wouldn't be so bad if there was more variety in discoverable locations. You can only find the exact same location so many times on different planets before it gets boring. The side quests are pretty fun though.

Good thing they elaborated on the future of Starfield, so many dozens of people awaited it with bated breath.

When it comes down to it; it won't matter what Todd Howard thinks/says. He and Bethesda are owned by Microsoft. In the end it's up to Microsoft as to who has control over decisions.
Exactly this
@CMDComMonDenominator microsoft can force them to make a game. it just depends if they actually feel like they need to force a game, cuz Microsoft hates making games in the first place.
@@heroicgangster9981 The only thing Microsoft MIGHT do is to push the idea of letting another studio make some sort of Fallout game to capitalize on the popularity of the TV show, but they certainly aren't going to waltz in and try to strong arm Bethesda into making a Fallout game "right now". It'd be funny if fallout dust ends up being the canon ending.
i hope they reference the tunnelers
Honestly it'd be a pretty easy and imo satisfying way of depicting the Mojave without giving a dedicated canon ending

I'm calling 2033 for the next try Fallout game.
id honestly love a remaster for fallout 3 and new vegas but it would need to be done right or it would kill the franchies
Todd’s gamertag is chubbinluvin
But in a game like fallout they just distract from the story and interrupt exploration.

from what I've seen on the final episode where they show the vaults across the board map there are 2 vaults in Canada one in Montreal and one in Toronto and I think for the next fallout it could be Montreal since Bethesda has an office there which would be a smart choice based on the metro system here and similar to Washington layout but more dense and has a lot of different environment.

@thomgizziz yeah so just load all of space at once ok
As somebody that plays Skyrim with 60 second load times and a monster PC (very powerful). I didn't even notice the load screens in Starfield tbh. xD

Imagine a fallout game based somewhere with a Jungle type setting… Like Fallout:Amazon
Fallout China would be really interesting but I doubt they could do it in this climate.
Fallout Mexico. We already have a major mod that adds a load of content(fallout senora) that mod has a expansion called dayglow
