Let’s be honest. Majority of Luke’s normals are some of the best in the game. His crouch jab is insanely good. Jump roundhouse beats anti airs. Crouch fierce is better than some DPs for anti air. Stand fierce covers a lot distance and is a block string with fireball. Crouch medium punch as mentioned in the video
The only thing with standing fierce is you have to cancel it since it's unsafe on block, which also means it pretty consistently can lose to invulnerable reversals if the opponent is ready. Still a great move, but I think it does have a weakness here.
@@Aznbomb3r Yes but therefore it‘s also one of the slowest standing jabs. I‘d rather have a fast short range standing jab because it‘s very important in some matchups.
went from diamond 1 to Master with Luke in just a few days thanks to your videos. easily the most concise and informative Luke guides on youtube. you are criminally underrated. cant thank you enough, keep it up man. crMP gotta be the best move in the game it just feels so damn good at everything lmao
That's true but I'm not sure if the sound of the hit will play as fast as the health bar updates. But of course, if sound helps you more here, go for it!
The difference between audio and visual reaction times is relatively small, maybe a 1-2 frame difference at most. And the studies on that topic usually involve reacting to one stimulus, rather than differentiating between 2 different stimuli which is what you need for a hitconfirm. The first few frames of a move connecting aren't going to produce a recognizable sound, but the health bar and hitspark are completely visible on the frame after a hit occurs. I do think the sound is useful, though, like a secondary confirmation to reinforce your visual reaction
FACTS! - great video. Im surprised i havent seen more Lukes win tournaments. Do you think its because hes a 'jack of all trades' but not super exceptional at 1? (For the record, im a Luke main. I love using this character)
I don't think that's the reason because Ken is a jack of all trades character too, and A LOT of players use him and he's winning too. I'd say Luke has done fairly well in tournaments so far though. We're seeing him more and more in top 8's and I think that there's not many other characters (besides Ken and JP) that have won much more than Luke (I might be wrong, I'm not that up to date will all the CPT tournaments recently).
From what I've seen, I don't know any top pro Luke players aside from MenaRD, I've been using Luke recently and thanks to your videos I'm steadily improving, he is a mad privileged character, I've been taking chars to Plat minimum as I go through the cast and I disliked Luke at the beginning but he's actually really fun to use, been beating Diamond players using their mains with my unranked, unoptimized Luke@@jeako777
Luke is the most well rounded character, he's very good all around, not many cheap things about the character though and you need that. JP, Chun Li, Guile, Ken are very oppressive. DJ is kind of nonsense honestly with the normals and the driverush and swaying from literally everything. Luke also honestly a bit more difficult to play than other characters optimally because of his combos and reliance on hitconfirms. The cheapest thing about Luke is the damage and 2MP, as good as 2MP is go look at moves like JP's 5HP, 5HK, literally any of his moves lol. There's a lot of cheap stuff in SF6 right now.
Thanks for the explanation. I am newbie diamond player but participated the world warrior Asia series and (luckly) have a match with Chris wong. I punished by his crouch medium punch a lot, feel like every attack/ check I do(Ken) is wrong. 😂
I'm telling since day one this move is absolutely busted, also you can literally spam two in a row without too much worring cause most jabs will trade or get punish countered for active frames reasons even if your opponent is only -1. Also it will put Luke in range for crMK, another busted normal.
JP"s 5HP would like a word lol. Or what about 5HK? +2 and eats that much drive gauge? Even his 2MK is abusrd lol it combos on CH and PC easily and has insane reach, 2nd in the game only to gief's, and it's better than gief's by a mile.
Great Luke content as usual. I'm trying to lab some spacing traps esp off spaced hp knuckle but nothing solid. Any chance you can do a video on spacing traps?
You get traps after any poke, block string and fireball. No need to complicate things. It's just that the type of attacks to whiff punish changes on every range. I play Cammy and I do a lot of jab, jab, hp to catch jabs. I'd get instantly called out by mediums but people don't press mediums at that range.
Cammy's and JP's 2mp are better than Luke's in term of hitbox. I can whiff punish anyone else's 2mp with Luke's 2mp on reaction pretty consistently, buy not Cammy and JP. Cammy's 2mp has greater range and her hurtbox draws back very early, it's unreachable from 19f which leaves only 12f of reaction window, unlike Luke's 2mp that is reachable even at the last frame. Her animation is also less obvious, I find it much harder to react to within 12f compare to Luke. JP's 2mp has shorter range but only so slightly it's almost impossible to take advantage of it. His hurtbox disappears so early you simply can't catch it on reaction.
Luke's 2MP is already extremely good, buffer into DR 4HK, that is straight up cheap. You don't really know how cheap it is until you fight a Luke player using it while playing another character, it's way too safe and does too much damage. I definitely want to see that move nerfed as a Luke player. Luke has great defensive normals in general, his aggressive normals are decent, not amazing but good, defensive though... 2MP one of the best normals in the game, 5MK great defensive move with good reach and fast, difficult to whiff punish with many characters.
I so hate that normal and it's even worse when then they do QCB Punch while you are blocking, it's so expensive to punnish that. As a main Ryu I feel Luke is so spoiled, Capcom gave to much tools to him.-
Ryu really needs to be buffed. He's strong I think, but Luke is just better in so many ways. So I definitely understand your frustration. Although Ryu can keep up with Luke in the matchup imo
@@jeako777 sorry for the misspells. Yeah I agree that Ryu is not as weak as people keep saying. He has great damage and an answer for almost every situation but you have to play really calm and optimal to beat chars like Luke, Ken or Guile. I mean, you can win but it's harder for Ryu.

Very small and detailed things, no fast high jab (but this is irrelevant with modern Luke). Higher than average recovery on crouch jab, so he can't bait as many supers as other chars. Hard but important hit confirms. Very whiff punishable. Overall almost no weaknesses. It's fine for an all-rounder char to have no weaknesses, but some of Luke's strengths are too strong imo
@@jeako777 normals are a bit stubby in terms of max range, gets outranged by some characters. He makes up for it with sandblast and better normals closeup. Weak damage off of lights relative to other characters, needs to spend drive to get damage. Needs to spend drive a lot for oki. Weak sweep, slow and below average range. Throw loop while good can be prone to backdashing into backthrow. Not very oppressive like Ken, kind of has to play a bit honest.
@@saado99 I feel like a lot of chars need to spend drive for oki, no? st MP is a pretty good alternative for sweep, at least for punishes. How many chars have auto-timed throw loops that are safe vs backdash? Yeah his light confirm damage is kinda pathetic lmao.
@@jeako777 Yea you're right a lot do, I mean it's not a huge negative it's mostly coupled with low damage on lights it can suck. light damage in general sucks, but look at Ken one heavy DP does a ton of damage, cammy meterless oki, JP starts his departure for free. Don't know the list of chars, but I just know Lukes has to be manually timed since you walk into it (it's not Like Kens or Ryus where they're literally right there), nobody has perfect timing which can make it very prone to punishing. That button is so stupid. I want Akuma to have it and be an anti Luke. I hate this character with a passion it ruined SF5 and he's only flying under the radar cause of JP.
Luke's shoulders are so huge because he has to carry all of us.

Basically Sol's f.S in Street Fighter
Ryu & Ken's s.HP is the next best normal imho. Hit confirmable into a DRC for huge combo damage.

a hitbox extending beyond the hurtbox, that’s also kinda rare in this game right?
