Bob is clearly my favorite Stick player. There are many, many fantastic Stick performers, but for me, Bob is the complete package of technique, taste, heart and generosity.
Absolutely wonderful - really enjoyed it. Phase Dance is one of my favorite Pat Metheny compositions and it sounds fantastic on the stick. More Metheny please!!
I'm starting to have some doubt about the elusive autonomy of the left hand bass. It is always interesting in stereo... but perhaps persistent patterns start to lose meaning in these up-tempo songs where the melody hand is flying. ... I want to know more about what the master makes of the melody - - - when the left hand is 'listening' !
This is a good point. When I teach I talk about not being too dependent on "motor movements" in the left hand and "think" or listen with the bass side at times. It is more difficult to improvise in the left (Bass) hand along with the right side. I have some examples where you can see this in Eleanor Rigby Amarillo Shuffle the Blues videos. In this song I mainly emphasized the soloing in the melody and played a groove partly because the original song is basically composed that way. There is a short section near the end where I switched to thinking in the bass/left hand realm. I am still working on improvising with both hands completely independent. But yes this is a great challenge which brings up the question "Can we really think completely independently or is it just really small very quick motors going back and forth from one hand to another? Cheers!
I can see this being a soundtrack for an urban sci fi film. Sounds great! I discovered Pat Metheny a few years back and eventually got a couple of albums by him. Severely underrated musician, I think. Question about the stick though, asking as a right-handed guitar player. Is the bass/rhythm hand on the stick (Robert's left) the hand you'd ordinarily fret the guitar with?
Hi Bob! I love seeing you play this way and what a great opening tribute to Metheny and improvised music. Lots o Luv to ya, it's been a long time. Are you offering online lessons at this stage? Stickrad xoxoxox
Thanks Konrad, I am glad you enjoyed it. Good to hear from you! I hope to get back over to your country in the future. I hear they make Didgeridoos there and would be interested in trying a few out. I do teach via skype lessons. Let me know through e-mail and we can set something up. Cheers

Воооооу!! Как-будто плывёшь в этой музыке!
Incredible!!! 😲
well done. very nice sounding piece
Beautiful sounds, Bob!It's easy to see and hear how this one just naturally flows out of you.
As always, you make this piece sound like it was written on the stick. Fantastic!
Fantastic as always
Wow, marveous!
Well done!!!
Forget the Gibson, this is what it´s about. Grand playing!
Amazing Bob!
Agreeing with Mr. Mingus right below, it would be nice to hear your versions of more Pat Metheny songs.
Just perfect
I feel like I'm checking to see how much snow we're about to get.
Really awesome cover :D
I think the stick's tone works very well for Metheny's tunes. Maybe not so much for bebop, but for smoother jazz I think it really works well.
DUDE!!
Nice!
Awoooooo!
Everyone, please nominate Robert Culbertson for a MacArthur Foundation Genius grant!
