I'm going to tokyo in July for 2 weeks. I'd love to visit this teahouse. But I'm not familliar with these kind of things. Can I handle it like a normal cafe? So just enter and sit down and order? Or are there special behaviours I should know? My japanese is not really good. but I might be able to say: まっちゃ しらたま ぜんざい が たべたい :D
malucken I don't think there's any strict rules in most traditional cafe apart from not making noise. I'm not too sure about teahouses though, I haven't been to one yet, but I would expect the same rules. As for placing orders, たべたいonly indicates your desire to eat and nothing else. You can try saying まっちゃ しらたま ぜんざい を ひとつ おねがいします。 The only other cafes I've been to are maid cafes in Akihabara which prohibit phototaking within premises. If you like a quiet Victorian style maid cafe, I would recommend Cure Cafe. It's one of the oldest (if not the original maid cafe) in Akihabara.
