Hakim, I am in Romania and I believe any leftist movement here is as hopeless as it can be.
The majority of liberal “intellectuals” in this country believe poverty is because of “bad culture” and are corporate lovers and free market fundamentalists.
They don’t understand the difference between socialism and communism, they called the old system “communist” because “communists were ruling” and they have an unchanging belief that communism represents the destruction of civil liberty, progress, innovation, free speech, it is anti-creativity and it is anti-diversity. They hate and despise me because they were persecuted by people with the same tag as me (communists) like half a century ago.
I talked with one and they didn’t even budge on the belief that Romanians are lazy and therefore poor and Germans are diligent and therefore rich.
I tried to reason with that guy, asking “But if they are more diligent, why do westerners complain about Romanians taking their jobs ?”. He said we should have no place in the European Union and they should close their borders to us cause “we are thieves”. I asked him “Ok, but in a free market if the western entrepreneurs chose to pay 2 romanians instead of one german, isn’t that how the free market should operate ? Doesn’t that make it flawed ?”. He responded with “The market isn’t flawed, your arguments are flawed, you know nothing about this system, listen to smart economists instead of trying to ask me gotcha questions because idiots like you are going to dig us into another socialist shithole.”
I was discussing why Bill Gates stomped on the Cambridge University and forced them to sell the vaccine to Astra Zeneca, the lack of vaccines in the third world will make it more likely for the virus to mutate and create forms resistant to the previously developed vaccines... why aren’t they pausing the “IP rights” for current vaccines so third world countries could produce generic versions of this vaccine ? Do they not want this pandemic to end ? This is effectively a genocide. She told me that “Bill Gates is smart, he did the right thing”, “lazy people in poor countries don’t really deserve vaccines”, “vaccines are cheap, why they don’t buy it themselves”, “it’s natural selection”, “the free market will eventually solve everything, including climate change, it is our only hope”, “it’s China’s fault”.
What can I respond to these people except:
“You may be right but please consider all sides of this problem...”
Every discussion feels like smashing my head on the floor while gently combing through their arguments. I am fairly sure no one can talk any fragment of truth into these people. I am seriously considering moving to another country and using my work and my skills in computer science there to either improve already existing socialism or try expand an already robust socialist movement. The problem is that I am a kind of council communist which might or might not be a subcategory of left-communism and I am not willing to go to China or DPRK and get myself killed or jailed cause I have objective criticisms to Juche and nationalism in general. (don’t worry, anarchists hate me too)
So... basically I’m desperate to do something good towards our shared goals as comrades but I have no idea what to do except hopelessly trying to convince people that maybe they should give leftists a fighting chance at minimal reforms at the very least.

I work as a physician in a major city in Ghana west Africa. The hospital I work in has all kind of state of the art equipment and the building is all shiny and clean but what saddens me is how we cannot utilize any of this equipment on patients because they cannot afford or pay for it. You have people dying of treatable diseases because they cannot pay for treatment. I thought to myself there has to be another way. We cannot keep living like this as a society. I usually come across socialist ideas on twitter and they resonate alot with me. I didn’t grasp what socialism really means. @@sungod1384 For the listeners at home:
Kwame Nkrumah, who was Ghana's first president after the country gained independence from British colonial rule, had a vision of building a socialist society in Ghana. He believed in the idea of African socialism, which aimed to blend traditional African values with Marxist socialism.
Under Nkrumah's leadership, the government implemented a number of policies to support this vision, including the establishment of state-owned enterprises, collective farms, and a system of free education and healthcare. The government also took steps to promote gender equality and reduce income inequality.
However, it's important to note that while Nkrumah's government implemented policies aimed at promoting socialist ideals, Ghana was never officially a socialist country. The country remained a multi-party democracy, with the government pursuing socialist policies within the framework of a capitalist economy.
While Nkrumah's socialist experiment faced significant challenges and criticisms, including accusations of corruption and mismanagement, it's true that his efforts were undermined by external forces, including Western powers who opposed his socialist leanings and saw him as a threat to their interests in the region.

Chapter 3 is exactly why I left anarchism (no offense to my anarchist comrades), and joined a Marxist group. We need actual leftist organizations in the United States.
I myself am a welder/fabricator, and I strongly believe that a nessessary component for a revolution is the development of fabrication skills and being able to physically create nessessities.
The more skills you have, the less reliant you need to be on the current existing capitalist structure.
Such skills include: welding, woodworking, CNC operating, and other fabrication skills. For example: You don't need to buy a table from an exploitative corporation if you can build your own, or if you know someone who can build one for you.
Revolutions don't necessarily mean you confront capitalism head on through protesting, or through a violent takeover. You can also subvert their authority by simply making the services they provide superfluous.
During the early years of the revolution, my country had to send engineers and doctors abroad to learn technologies that will help the revolution later. Eventually we have doctors who learned how to make "Homemade penicillin" by extracting the substance with household items, we got and engineers who can build Bazookas domestically. All of that were carried out while the war was still going on.
A revolution in the West can benefits greatly from the labor force consists of doctors and engineers who were laid off. We must understand and make them understand that they are part of the proletariat too. Their works will bring the production and fighting capacity of the revolution close to parity to the Capitalists and it will be instrumental to their final defeat.
@@The1Elcil And no skill should be disregarded. In the modern world, the bourgeoisie will rely more on cyber surveillance and mass media control to supress the revolution. We need IT technicians to counter their control of the internet and just like pass revolutions, the work of revolutionary artists and journalists to dispel the lie of the capitalist system. It is said by the communist party of Vietnam that revolutionary journalism and literature played a crucial role in evoking class consciousness within the working people
Imho, even more helpful than making stuff from scratch is modification and repair.
There is so much stuff- often free if you dare to pick the trash- , adapting it can be easier and better than making new stuff.
Also, the skills are mostly the same- so you can easily switch, depending on necessity.
All this needs spaces and tools- we accumulate those as our own means of production.
@@minhducnguyen9276 sadly, most highly- qualified workers are generally valuable enough that companies pay them well, or they are stuck with student debt forcing them to stay inside the hamster wheel. I don't see them get off too often- how can we improve this?
@@nos9784 You are stating both the strength and weaknesses of the corporative environment. They are good at hiring good engineers and luring indebted students into wage slavery but they suck at drawing in the genius types. The Corporate environment tend not to mix well with the talented type of peoples. Take ssethtzeentach for example, a brilliant immunology graduate who was working in cancer treatment, he was disappointed in the business of big pharma being so profit driven with getting any results so now he run a game review channel on RUclips as a hobby. He has many dark humour jokes in his videos. The stereotype of former Soviet scientists losing job working as janitors in the West in movies is not without a root in reality. Dr King, a psychiatrist who's also a gaming streamer also said the same thing, he met many talented people, genius level even, that can't fit into the corporate environment. The same applies to indebted students, many of them are extremely talented and would be more than willing to serve a greater cause than withering away day by day with a dead end job.

I really appreciated the section emphasizing the need for kindness, politeness and patience by revolutionary organizations. I feel like Marxist-Leninists have really developed a reputation in the Western left for being incredibly combative, accusatory and unpleasant, and every time I see a comrade engaging in behavior that furthers this reputation, I just die inside. Yes, imperialism is disgusting and infuriating, and we so often can feel completely alone in our convictions, but we must never lose our patience with people.
I am currently only fourteen but I have fixed myself my entire life goal: The Revolution.
It's just so horrible looking at all what capitalism has done, everyday I hate it more and more and I haven't been a week without thinking about Revolution.
Sometimes I even wonder if it's possible to make an effective revolution when we are so far into climate change, corruption and, most importantly, corruption. In my opinion a good approach to organising, if you haven't a lot of comrade at the moment, is to use unrelated structures.
I met a lot of comrades through an organisation that is actually supposed to be an elititist academic fencing club. As far as the old guard is concerend that is still what it is but if the younger generation are among us we talk theory, we talk leftist politics and if other students join our club we will show them their privilige and what they should use it for. A big help in our group of mostly STEM lords (including myself) is a literature major, he might just be our most valuable asset. He likes to organize trips for the younger members, he is well versed in theory and he will debate you even if your opinions are just downright stupid (I know that from experience, my opinions used to be trash).
So if you think there aren't any comrades around you, maybe join another org and try to make the comrades you need.

Hakim, if you have the chance, I recommend doing an in depth video on dialectical materialism. It's crucial to scientific communism as a theory. Specifically, the understanding that "revolution" has a scientific meaning: a progressive historical push toward a more complex system (socialism). Why its a superior and progressive system has to be grounded in something other than if not alongside, moralism.
Yeah, the problem is that a lot of left-wingers (i will never say the word "leftists") believe that socialism is a check list
But no, socialism is a process in which the proletariat government uses dialectical materialism to solve everyday problems (Contradictions within society)
It doesn't matter how power is wielded, that it's "democratic", "bureocratic", "decentralized", or "authoritarian" as long as it serves the interest of the working class.
So we have to look at the state's class character to decide wheter it's socialist or not.
The channel "Luna Oi" has some good videos on the principles of dialectical materialism, among other things, from a Vietnamese Communist. If you're not familiar with her channel already, it's well worth the time.
@@1homelander179
I'm sorry, but to me saying the working class can be in power under an authoritarian autocratic system is like saying the peasantry can be in power under an absolute monarchy.
The very power structure of the state creates a new class, with its own material interests.
What's stopping the members of the state from running the complete system and apparatus in only their own interest, if the people have no institutionalized power to pressure them into acting in public interest?
What exactly makes it "scientific"? I've heard left wing anarchists say "scientific socialism" is a misleading term because it was coined along an outdated understanding of what constitutes as science. Is that true?

@@michaelslowmin I think all of this pessimism comes from unrealistic expectations. Because of the insane division and hysteria in America right now, an American Socialist revolution would look less like the Bolshevik Revolution and more like a cross between the Spanish Civil War and the Troubles in Ireland. I'm watching this a year after it came out, but thank you for this comrade. I really needed to be reminded that there are things I can do, because it's so easy to feel like trying to improve anything is pointless and the world is doomed
Glad you were here.
I'm trying to figure it all out too

So far I've found its worth it!
Much Love !!
Great video as always. I would like a conversation on the conditions necessary for a revolution and whether it is possible in a "first world" country at all.
I might do something with that in the future, just need a little more time haha
It isn't. First world workers are at the top of the labor aristocracy and benefit from imperialism. It's why the furthest left they go is welfare imperialism.
It’s very possible, Vietnam completely halted not only US, but Chinese and French soldiers until they all surrendered, the 13 colonies of the US bested the British government, and the IRA also held off British occupation. I think it’s also notable the victors all used some form of Guerrilla warfare and were up against global superpowers😉
@@notreprobleme1581 Yeah but we were highly motivated to embrace communism and revolutionary ideas because we were oppressed. So were the IRA. But how do you plan to make the proletariat inside the imperial core to realise that they too are victims of exploitation? Remember the whole existence of the liberals wing of the capitalist system is to sedate the working class. They will try to negotiate some social reform, raise minimum wages for a while to make the people content with the situation they are in.

Quick comrades! Come look. Comrade Hakim has uploaded a new RUclips video! ☭
This is a very good and comprehensive video, but I think it is worth putting some reference to the necessity for armed combat. These are great first steps for building a base, and for many an actual armed uprising can seem incomprehensibly far off, but it should always be remembered that this is the only proven way to establish socialism, and if your movement is going to survive, you're going to have to fight at some point, whether you want to or not. Even in this preliminary stage of base building, making some preparations for a protracted people's war is useful, because you don't know when conditions are going to change and you'll have to move onto the next step. Things like basic training, stockpiling, building logistical infrastructure and so on is the sort of preparations you can do even when your organisation is small, and will pay off in the long run.
Of course, this is not to encourage adventurism, terrorism or any other type of tactical mistake. But especially if you live in a country like the United States that has comparatively little legal restrictions on this sort of organising, it is worth starting these preparations as early as feasible.
The US and state governments don’t put restrictions on armed right-wing groups but leftist and liberation movements face and have faced much more repression and restrictions. But yes, despite all that, we still gotta organize.
Most states here have statutes outlawing paramilitaries, private militias, or training that would be required for that sort of thing. They don’t use these statutes against right wing groups that do this, but you can be sure as hell they’ll use them against leftists.
Wow I’m here before Naheed what an honor.
This is one of the best videos out there on the topic. Not just because it’s well said and thoughtfully research, it’s that nothing is lost if the video is converted into a pamphlet or short book.
It's great that you made another revolutionary instruction video since your last one isn't on RUclips anymore. You're the best, Hakim.

It's B-roll of Japanese footage and Hong Kong before the unification. Just general googling, mostly.
As somebody raised and steeped in capitalist ideology, like basically everyone is now, I believed wrong things and I felt silly, insecure, and embarrassed having to look at these mistakes and it took my ego down a peg or two. But luckily the people I had around me educating me and answering my questions were genuinely kind and caring, and understood the discomfort of this process and did everything they could to make me trust that they weren't trying to 'own' me (in fact, quite the opposite) or make me look foolish - which they easily could have done if that was their game. I try to remember that and be generous with people.
If somebody tells you that a lot of the values you hold are counterfeit, that both your reading of how the world works and your dreams of how it should work are wrong or incomplete, and that perhaps even the act of holding and defending those particular views and assumptions is *actually* a big part of why things are so bad in the first place.... It's a lot to ask.
"Even if they have a point, who does this smug asshole think he his - lecturing me like a child? Is this just his way of trying to prove he's read more books than me?"
This doesn't mean you have to be saintly in every political discussion - I do think there is generally a place for ridicule, scorn, and less gentler forms of rhetoric. I was radicalized with gentle but assertive answers to my questions and corrections because I had built trust with my mentors and they knew I was genuinely engaging in good faith. But I think that's kind of rare and if I was being disingenuous or dishonest I'm sure they would have had no problems making my foolishness more public. And I don't necessarily think that means I wouldn't come around eventually, or that any of the people watching might think, "hey what do I have to do to make sure I don't look like that fool did.."
Grace and generosity though, with shared trust, is probably the best soil for growing a good comrade. Too much scorn/social pressure driving it will just make Radical Chic consumers whose politics are little more than a marketing category that will change with the seasons.
I had a hankering for a video from our good comrade early yesterday, within an hour this was up - finally getting to watch now! Only a few minutes in and already excellent comrade!
Point 8 is extremely important!
I used to be a somewhat "consider myself a leftist" centrist liberal (with some rightoid influences I was at the time denying to myself and others) and went into a leftist space, spouting nonsense about horseshoe theory and whatnot. I expected to get beaten up and thrown out. That was the picture I had in my mind of leftists at the time.
Instead, the people there just... talked to me. Explained firmly, yet empathetically to me why they thought my views were wrong (and oh boy, were my views wrong at the time lol).
The simple fact that they did not attack me but instead just TALKED to me and respected me as a human being is the moment that utterly and irreparably cracked my perception of leftism as "violent thugs, just as bad as fascists".
Some more things happened, I started educating myself and now I'm here.
I am living proof of the importance of talking to people with kindness and empathy.
I have huge respect for people who manage to do it. It's so hard to resist the impulse to yell at someone who's so wrong about many things 😅 but people hate getting yelled at and attacking them won't win them over.
Empathy will.
I seriously love longer videos, they are like podcasts i can listen to while I do the dishes etc. ❤️
America was found on revolution, it’s time we return to tradition!
Only based conservatism
Aaaaaand now I'm on a watch list
9:44 the whole discussion of lifestyleism reminds me of Deleuze and Guattari’s ideas of schizo-analysis. The way I’ve most commonly (or most easy to understand) is an individual surrounded by 5 spheres. From closest to farthest is the body - the mind - the social - the political - the world / non-individual
When we say we want revolution we don’t want to trap that into one sphere. We don’t want to say online “I want revolution” and leave that in the political sphere. We must bring it to the social sphere, tell your friends about it (respectfully). To the non-individual sphere, where ideas go to be put into praxis and not merely fought over with words. Take it to the mental sphere and start revolutionizing your own day-to-day thinking. As for the body part I’m not actually sure. From my understanding that tends to be reserved to people with actual schizophrenic delusions.
EDIT: this all comes from a guy who watched a RUclips video on the topic and read a book tangentially related. So keep that in mind lol
Keep at it, comrades.

Can you elaborate on the secrecy and control argument for organizations? (Or point me to relevant resources?)
How do you prevent organizations from being infiltrated/destroyed by the ruling class when they’ve got tools and resources (surveillance being the most insidious) capable of killing a promising movement in its shell?
The long in-depth comment I just wrote was deleted by RUclips for *some reason*. 😐
Read about the infiltration and disruption strategies employed by the US during COINTELPRO and the SpyCops programme in the UK.
In the US, there are distinguishable patterns in how the feds conduct contemporary infiltration and entrapment operations
The TrueAnon podcast episodes on these sort of topics are very digestible imo. In particular, I would recommend the episodes named SpyCops Undercover I, SpyCops Undercover II, Gretchen, and Based and Fedpilled. Anything on sting ops, honeypots, and infiltration
Also, read the Rolling Stone article on the suspicious deaths of all the original BLM organizers from Ferguson
Before watching this I just want to say the original animated Avatar the last Airbender is a great example of a revolution how to guide
Great video. The Japanese footage puzzles me, though. For the future, I know it's quite a dark topic, but it's one that needs discussing: how to prepare for the inevitable moment when proper leftist movements have to deal with the concrete lethal threat of intelligence/police action, or even paramilitary reprisal in places like Brazil, India, Colombia, etc.
In refernece to that dark topic, i find the answer would be guerilla warfare. It was practiced in many countries that were up against global superpowers and were successful. It’s how the taliban, the Vietnamese won against the US (So much for most powerful army😬
people's war
I too feel like this topic needs allot of discussion but I understand why he did a speedrun over the security stuff because youtube wouldn’t like it and to voice the actions that would be required would attract feds like a dinner bell gotta love that free speech huh

There was initial state capitalism in the 1950s instead of co-ops as the transition from capitalism to socialism, the famine (which can be 20-40 million deaths), unnecessarily economically distancing itself from the USSR (which had it mistakes), and the ineffectiveness of red guards fighting among themselves and assaulting people.

@@alex-sv8ru no it’s just that we live in truly awkward times. More people are really suffering from obesity than starvation. Wars are no longer won by who has more muskets. Automation, computers, and A. I. are so advanced that some jobs are becoming completely obsolete. - How should leftists communicate about inq£ǃ˞aab. Signal?? VPNs?? Handwriting only??
- How should we prevent spying/infiltration once serious iɴqəɭɐɐbi work starts?
- Is there any point to writing ɪɳqelaaʙ the way I am (ever?), or is this just misplaced paranoia?
- How do we prevent ourselves from becoming Fred Hamptons?
- At later stages, when it's time to distribute ~banaadeq~ to the working class, can this be done through unions?
- How can we prepare for when the state cuts off our energy/internet/water?? Do you have any suggestions about alternate energy grids? Such as communal solar panels (which i think would fall into housing co-op plans).
- In general, how do we avoid getting flagged early on, and what can we learn from iɲqʋilaaʙi organizations of the past, like the Black Panthers.
