What iv been doing is a 50/50 blend of fresh lemon and lime 0.5 oz each. Then a blend of strawberry syrup and passion fruit syrup, 0.5 oz each. Then either 2oz of a full bodied dark Jamaican rum or a 50/50 split of a dark and Plantation OFTD 1oz each. So good.
My fassionola is made from a supermarket brand "exotic fruit juice" which was 50% passion fruit with lots of other tropical fruit juices making up the other 50%. Boil with hibiscus tea and then add sugar to turn it into a syrup. Works pretty well.
Nice Steve, Hurricane is top 2-3 Rum Cocktail for me as well. My recipe: 2 oz OFTD 3/4 oz Chinola Passionfruit Liqueur 1 oz Lemon Juice 1 Barspoon each of Guava Syrup & Chinola Mango Liqueur
Hi Steve, I have my own Fassionola mix, Leandro’s recipe made to half measure. It does make a lovely Hurricane, but I also use a blend of 4 rums I have tod you of before. Currently abstain following an agonisingly crippling bot of gout and now on a course of medication. Nick from York
Great video Steve 👍 If you're ever south west way, visit the Muck & Dunder in Devizes, great rum bar. Regarding the Hurricane, if you use Fassionola, would you still use Grenadine?
Yeah I know Shelly and Stu. We've hooked up a few times at various Rum Shows and had a couple of boozy nights together! 😂 and no, no Grenadine as the Strawberry & Hibiscus give you the Red. HOWEVER...as i say in the video, there's no rules! Just "Passion Fruit forward with Red Fruits!" and my Grenadine is proper, as in Pomegranate. So thats 100% a Red Fruit.
Nice one, I really enjoy their place - makes the bus journey home interesting 😅 They made me a QB Cooler based on your video, never had one before and it wasn't on their menu, but it tasted great! That makes sense about the red fruits, I might give the fassionola a go this summer.
Best hurricane needs fassionola. Being from New Orleans I have had many of them and many different kinds, but the best have fassionola, esp the one I make at home.
My current Hurricane recipe: * 1 oz. Passion Fruit Syrup: Passion Reàl * 1 oz. Lemon Juice, Freshly Squeezed * 1 oz. Black Blended Overproof Rum: Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof Artisinal Rum * 1 oz. Black Blended Rum: Coruba Jamaica Rum As far as the next cocktail, I’d been interested in the Tradewinds. Been playing with Haitian rums for the white rum in the drink, curious to see your thoughts and ideas.
I must say, the recipe from Tropical Standard is truly remarkable. Although I don't make my own Coconut mix, I prefer using Coco Real. The reason I think I enjoy it so much is the added spice that the bitters bring to the mix.
If only my wife liked passion fruit but she does not. A pureé is pretty good for me. Passoa is too medicinal. Your Passionola blend is a pretty steep investment and I can't get ODK in the US.
Its horses for courses. Is it a steep investment for someone who makes a lot of drinks, no absolutely not. Is it steep if you only make 1-2 drinks a week, then maybe. But then your option is to make your own from scratch. However, the big difference is that if you pay for Brands, they'll last for ages. in some cases 18+ months. Homemade probably only lasts 1-2 weeks.
@@StevetheBarmanUK : Exactly. I'd make one a month... maybe. It's just for the wife and I and occasional guests. I tried making fassionola from scratch with fresh fruit once but it did not turn out well. It somehow had a taste of green banana in it and, of course, there was no banana. It was a fun experiment I will likely not repeat.

I love this channel. You’re not only fun to watch, I learn so much. I will be making this cocktail and try to explore different rums and syrups.
Thank you my friend. Thats a great comment to read!
Any thoughts on a bitter for this cocktail?
It would be interesting to see a comparison of rums in a booze-forward, stirred-down rum cocktail.
Amazing video Steve!! Learned a lot of different practical stuff, thanks!!
Stevie B's rocking like a Hurricane! 😜 He's such a tease... 😂
A little teasing helps everyone smile!
This is one of your best videos you have ever made. A+
Thank you! That means a lot!

And there is a local company called Cocktail & sons here that makes a fassionola that I buy as making it is intricate.
Yup...100%. Thats what I say in the video 😉

the Painkiller is the best "rum" drink to me; especially the Soggy Dollar Painkiller!
What makes the Soggy Dollar one so good?

Pain killer next
