Kristen's screaming and disgust made me laugh. I 100% agree with Michael about practical effects.
The film was awarded an oscar for its special effects which were designed and created by Chris Walas who went on to direct The Fly II in 1989
"I'm an insect, who dreamt he was a man....and loved it.....but now the dream is over, and the insect is awake."
Best line of the film. What a tragic ending for everyone.
"Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly ... now I do not know whether I was a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man" - Cronenberg's so based he has his monster-hero paraphrasing a 300 BC Daoist philosopher - and I believe someone like Seth Brundle would likely have read Zhuangzi's Inner Chapters, so this Easter Egg actually feels in character - the deeper I look into this movie, the better it gets -
34:45 Yes, you DO find out...in "The Fly II"
Part 2 is good but!!! i will never ever watch it again because of what they did to his poor dog that shit piss me off very sad.😢😢😡😡
@@LenOliver-yz6os Same.
It's good for It's own reasons. There's less moral ambiguity since Martin is a good guy even after "puberty" and he's against completely evil scientists. I love the emotional scenes and the creature effects when shit gets real.
Practical effects were very bad with that dog scene@@LenOliver-yz6os
Yeah there's a sequel!
In 1986, my mom took me to Aliens and The Fly double feature. 2 movies on one ticket. My mom was the best.
Entomologists will tell you flies are extremely powerful for their size. At a human size their acidic juices could melt most living beings completely, and their strength could shatter bones.
Kristen: The fly is in there. Is that a bad thing?
Movie title: 😐
One of the best horror remakes ever made. Jeff Goldblum should've at least gotten an Oscar nod. For those wondering what happened to the 2nd Baboon, it was explained in a deleted scene. After realizing he and the fly were merged at the genetic level, he took a cat and placed it in one telepod, the Baboon in the other, and merged them in the third. What came out was a Baboon-cat hybrid that attacked him. He then proceeded to beat it to death with a crowbar. When test audiences saw that scene, they lost all sympathy for the character, and it was deleted. It's a shame because Goldblum was in some of the best make-up in the movie.
Kinda glad it go cut because it turns the end into a gruesome twist, and makes the Fly element in Brundle seem far more behind the wheel, so the inevitable fusion of Brundleflypod asking to be ended even more poignant. Some points when overexplained can detract from a powerful finish.
But makes for excellent Fan bonus lore after the fact.💚
The chemistry between Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum was just as real off camera. They were married from 1987 - 1991.
I love how Kristen flails her arms around when she gets scared. It's like she has no idea what to do lol.
She's part muppet
"The Fly" did win the Oscar for Best Makeup in 1987.
The Fly ll will satisfy your questions.
Kristen's soul left her body so many times during this reaction. xD
Fly 2 follows the son
David Cronenberg was not involved in that at all though, which is an important qualifier since it’s not very good.
I like the fly 2 it doesn't have the same type of performances but it's a fun creature feature.
@@kc1johnI think it's a fun creature feature.
A perfectly gruesome and unnerving film that has a wonderfully human core and eclectic chemistry between Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum.
This is the ultimate body horror film!
It won the Oscar for Best Makeup!
It made $60 million dollars against a $14 million dollar budget.
It's one of the best Sci-fi Horror Thriller Films ever made.
Best Jumpscare Reaction i have ever seen 🤣
Gotta watch II now. Eric Stoltz is fly baby
Seth wasn't a bad guy - he was actually a very good guy, trying to help humanity. He was just the victim of a very unfortunate circumstance. You really felt for him (wanting to get his humanity back), and for Ronnie - she had to watch him deteriorating before her eyes, and she was powerless to help him. The first "monster movie" where I ever felt choked up over the fate of the "monster".
Gotta watch the Fly2 to find out...😉
This movie has been described as one of David Cronenberg's best films. On a budget of $9 million dollars, it took over $40 million dollars in the US alone and a further $20 milion worldwide.
In my view it's a masterpiece. Based on a story by George Langelaan which was published in a 1957 issue of Playboy magazine, the first movie adaptation was in 1958 and starred Al Hedison, and Vincent Price. It was updated for the 1980s audience.
It's definitely one of his best films, next to The Dead Zone, Dead Ringers, and A History of Violence. It's usually hard to pick the single best film of any director's career.
David Cronenberg specifically constructed this film as a metaphor for old age and terminal illness. If you strip out the sci-fi elements, it’s the story of two people who meet and fall in love, with one of them (metaphorically) getting old/suffering from a degenerative terminal illness. He gets worse and worse, and ends up so mentally and physically crippled that he asks his lover for assisted suicide.
That’s what the movie’s actually about. How we we deal with the relentless inevitability of old age and death, and the effect it has on our relationships and loved ones. The script is peppered with references to aging, and Brundle loses hair/nails/teeth and walks on canes, at one point.
The emotional subtext of the film is absolutely real, and absolutely devastating, which is why it remains so powerful and so sad. We all watch ourselves slowly fall apart in the bathroom mirror, just as Brundle does. The movie’s sci-fi candy-coating just takes it a few steps beyond reality to make the story easier to digest.
Cronenberg’s best film, Goldblum’s best film, and the best body horror film ever made, because the effects serve a thematic purpose, rather than being nasty just to be nasty. And it’s also better than THE THING (which I also love, mind you), because it’s more personal, more intimate, and hits closer to home.
31:17 This is one of the funniest jumpscares I ever see 😂
The makeup effects won the Oscar.
You definitely gotta check out the sequel. I loved every reaction you guys had to this, it was hilarious, check out The Fly II I really wanna see your faces in that one 😂
*SEE THE SEQUEL!!*
It's good and doesn't get enough attention. And it will answer some of your questions.
It's good, but looks like it was filmed a decade+ earlier with less creative flair. Reeks of late 70's cheap Sci-fi and ages upon repeat viewings, whereas this feels like a perfect time capsule of the end of the 80's and still looks as fresh as the day(s) it was shot.
Kristen, your reactions is the only reason to watch this channel. Don't listen to the haters, you're great.
The interesting thing about this movie is that while the fly itself is obviously a visible insect that we can see, in reality there were also billions of bacteria being transported along as well, both inside Goldblum and outside in the space of the capsule. So who tf knows what would’ve happened when the system tries to “combine” all these bacteria with humans.
That jump scare reaction was amazing 👏 🤣
31:17 OMG Kristen's reaction 😂🤣😂🤣 I'm making that my new cell phone lock screen 💀
*Just keep in mind when you see a fly land on your food it threw up on it*
BTW most creeps likely wouldn't joke about creepy tendencies to their victims.
Again, concepts that took hold later, in-particular following the explosion of Hannibal Lecter's backwards popularity.
If u want creepy...watch Sharon Stone's performance in Basic Instinct
Good insights.
This is one of my top five favorite sifi/horror movies from my childhood way back in the 80's. And there is a end scene where she has the baby and it's normal until fly two.
Kristen has the same issue always looking at her cohost as the audience does always looking at her. 😉
The trio of amazing body horror movies is The Thing, The Blob (1988) and The Fly (1986). Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s amazing that they’re all remakes.
Honorable mention: An American Werewolf in London
And all 3 of those movies are 1950s remakes which are better than the originals.
This movie was pure nightmare fuel to 8 year old me back when it came out. Not sure wtf my family was thinking taking me to see it!

Don't read the mean/ rude comments Kristen. Keep doing what your doing. It's perfect. Your reactions are very honest takes how most folks reacts. Like I said before. When we see you in the thumbnail, we know we're getting a amazing video from Cinepals
Hey I love the Kristen and Michael team ups! And he ain’t wrong, he’s definitely got that jawline😂😂 love you guys!!!
I second this! That jawline xD both amazing. Thanks for the amazing reaction
GODZILLA minus ONE!
You two crack me up😂
"Woah!, that's a load bearing column!"
To me, this is the best movie of all time.
You need to watch more movies.
You should also watch Mary Shelley's Frankenstein 1994
The answers are in "The Fly II".
Ok Kristen...ok.
Unusually, the remake is significantly better than the original.
The remake of The Blob was very good. John Carpenter’s The Thing is a great movie. The remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers was a pretty good movie even though I prefer the original.
The one thing about the original anyone remembers is that creepy ending, even if that VFX looks goofy AF today.
@@alucard624 I remember how the scientist looked when he came out of pod. It was interesting seeing him look like a monster with 50s practical effects and the great acting from the woman who played his wife. I have the original on my Plex account. Vincent Price is great even though he isn’t the lead character.
@biguy617, which remake of Invasion the Body Snathers? There's three that I know of.
Most remakes are better. The ones that don't copy paste the original shot for shot.
My favorite Howard Shore score. Performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
*#Kristen** not so secretly has a thing for serial killers*
The Fly 2 will answer your questions.
Practical effects are superior all day long! Even the sucky ones are charming and carry more heart than a far less physically taxing computer rendering.
This Film has some of the greatest work ever seen and you both owe yourselves a second eyes wide open viewing and treat it like going to a top-tier Art Gallery, knowing you're perfectly safe and that it's all fake.
Absolutely adored this reaction! 💚💚
31:17 what a good one
Why do you think Bones (Dr. McCoy) NEVER teleported?!? This is why!!!
Now, watch Jeff Goldblum again in Jurassic Park.
We don't blame Kristen lol
“Protection is key.” Great quote. The dream sequence of the Brundle-Fly baby would make a great public service announcement for contraception. 😂
I was born in '82 and saw this in theaters and the part where he pukes in the donut has stayed with me my entire life. The '80s was a different time lol.
@38:20 - To be fair, that's how I would expect Cronenberg's Romeo and Juliet to look like, so... she's not far off. :)
Absolute best jump scare on RUclips, lol
Watch The Fly 2. It's different but I think it stands on it's own as a good film.
theres a part 2 thats good also
The cancer parallel is exactly what the writer/director had in mind, very good catch. The commentary track makes note of how you can tell a story like "person has to euthanize their dying spouse who contracts a lethal degenerative disease" by wrapping it in horror or scifi, if it was directly just that as a drama it'd be unbearable and unpalatable for audiences.
The Fly 2 is actually a decent watch
"What prevents every species from intermingling is how different our genetic code is. Right?"
Well, yes, that and they just never return our calls. 😂😂😂
The ENTIRE trucking industry is rendered obsolete so consumers can receive items quicker...
Can't see that happening.
Said no Local Business owner ever!!
Get to watching Fly 2 to find out....
I don't know if Kristen & Michael have seen the remake of the Blob (I hope not) because I'd love to see them both react to that.
I'm not a big Jeff Goldblum fan but he was fantastic in this, his "fly" energy was spot on.
Loved the chemistry between Kristen and Michael, you guys cracked me up.
Kristen reactions were soooo good, thanks that was classic. "show me, I wanna see it..... ARGGGHHH !!" roflmao.
Sounds like you have to watch the fly 2, if you want to know what happened to the baby.
I've always loved this film & how Cronenberg is a master of exploring the human condition in so many ways, with a super complicated combination of love, fear, horror, curiosity, pity, desperation, & more, in what is a fairly simple story externally. I'm happy seeing Kristen appreciate all all this complexity & find her new favorite film, which actually gets even better on every watch in my opinion. Great reactions from both her & Michael!
You wanna know what happens with the baby watch The Fly 2
There's THE FLY 2. Check it out.
There is a sequel starring Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga.
Jeff Goldblems twitches is what sells his character perfectly
I'm fed up with people who, when they watch a movie, where someone is shy and is always called Serial Killer, shut up, you just talk shit and ruin the vibe of the film
Not for me but go off
The reality is, if somebody did create a teleporter and the government found out they'd be dead meat.
Not really.
Reality is if he created it independently, he would have a patent filed.
In Seth's case this device belongs to his backers, just as he said at the beginning
@@moondog3056 you must be naïve. go look up Stan Meyers, and his water powered car. His last words after meeting for lunch with government officials were “They poisoned me!.” Then he died of “ a heart attack”.
@@moondog3056 in these times? dead for sure
@@moondog3056 he'll be dead because such discovery would kill millions of jobs, and cause the world economy collapse.
Absolutely, I'm like 85% sure somebody already figured out teleportation, but the government got to them before they could release it to the public. Imagine all of the hidden research that could advance humanity but is sitting on the shelves somewhere because it goes against the ideas/profits of the major global corporations
I guess you're gonna have to watch The Fly 2 !
Loved the reaction. This is one reason Gen X is messed up. Welcome to our nightmare.
HOLY HELL!!! Kristen's reactions to jump scares are HILARIOUS 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
31:17 wtf 😂😂😂😂
You guys have to watch the sequels
There is a second one she’s not in but she has the baby and it’s about him
Thank you for the quick intro
Based on this reaction you two REALLY need to react to "The Voices" with Ryan Reynolds. You won't be sorry. 😉
Wow, 80s vibe!! Please react to a 1988 movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Micheal really does have an amazing jawline, and perfect hair. Also, such beautiful hands, long straight fingers- (just like my husband 😉
35:14 You'll find out in The Fly II
Watch the fly 2 u will find out
Young Jeff goldblum or old Jeff goldblum
There is a part 2, not as good as original, I still like it.
Next, the Fly 2
Man,...... that's a reaction 😶😶😶
Also this 31:17 LOL
So sceptical. He is a serial killer haha.
Definitely one of the best horror remakes next to The Thing. You guys should remake to more David Cronenberg films. Perhaps the most underrated horror director along with Stuart Gordon. Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis were a couple and got married after this film came out. They got divorced but stayed friends.
Watch FLY II, it's about his son
Just watch the sequel and get your answers
I think the sequel is underrated. I like it even though it is very flawed.
