Hopefully they collectively agree to power-down decks that kill quickly, rather than forcing Jeremy to make his decks more cutthroat. Sometimes big dumb stuff in big dumb stuff value engines is what I want commander to be!
FYI, Looter was exiled by curse of the swine and so shouldn't have been able to be brought back by GPG, also John can't untap mind stone with his sword of feast and famine trigger.
Also, he was ignoring triggers from faf once he dropped shrieker. Something like 36 mana available before hellkite dealt damage. There were so many bad decisions and poor plays in this episode.
I agree with that, I was angry at Jon because it seems every episode I've watched (new to the series) has been Jon declaring someone slighted him in some way last time and they're the biggest/only target for the entire game to him. Stephen seems to make poor choices most of the episodes I've watched and he ends up literally handing the win to someone because of it, in this episode because of playing stax poorly he forced Justin and Jeremy out of the game while allowing Jon to do his shenanigans and then being like "why is everyone mad at me? Jon could've blown up the Orb with Hellkite and he didn't", as if Jon was going to do that and give Justin/Jeremy a chance at doing something to deal with him at the last second.
Welp, would have loved to see that Sedris deck in action. Bad week for #TeamParnell :( Curious about and excited for next week though! (Side note: Curse of the Swine makes GREEN pigs, so no one could have blocked the equipped pig in Jon's turn after the Curse was cast).
I gotta say I loved this. John having fun is the best. His counterspell was great. Unstable next week should redeem this week's episode for those that didn't like it.
For everyone asking where the decklists are, they include a link to them in the description of every(?) video? I've seen about half a dozen comments asking lol
Esteban Verde, you were the heart and soul of my life...the embodiment of all the things I love about magic and this format of ours....the foundation of my building that I call EDH...I looked to you above all others for direction and understanding in this mess we call commander...and now you've left me, a man apart, to pick through the pieces of what's left of this format I love so much.....rest happy in the knowledge that you've betrayed me in your pursuit of glory...I only hope that you've found whatever it is you're looking for and that at the end of the day it was worth it.....
This was great. Prison pieces are important components to consider in high level deckbuilding. At any rate, great video. #Goldstandard #teamstaticorb #teamwinterorb #orbs
34:30 the looter was already exiled, Justin can't "eternalize" him. 37:20 John sneakily untaps his Mindstone with the sword trigger and the proceeded to tap set Mindstone as if it was affected by Manaflare at 38:40. Great game by the way.
Jon, You missed a cool interaction with Sword of F&F and Double Strike. Swing with HoG and Steel Hellkite. HoG hits with first strike and untaps all your land, then you tap ALL of your lands to pump steel Hellkite. then HoG hits with normal damage and you continue your turn. Congrats on the win.
There's a theme episode for next season. Decks that didn't get their fair share making a return. Extra point to a player who achieves what the deck is meant to do. Crazy game guys. Lookin forward to the finale, which I can only anticipate to be Unstable?
Fun to see John get his moment, and I guess a bit of no-fun every once in a while is unavoidable in cmdr. But definitely keep representation of it minimized! A game where y'all play with self/director created Planeswalkers/creature commanders that serve as representations of yourselves is a possible idea! Definitely favorite stuff you do is randamonium and the unique formats!
"Bacon for Everyone." I'm sad I didn't get to see more of Justin and GrixisGuy's deck but Director Choi unwittingly built an excellent Stax monster for Suarez so I'm not mad. I know people hate them, and they're terrible on video, but a staxx player needed to be highlighted at least once for the channel just so people understand that extra pinch of salt that goes into commander. It's kinda appropriate that the staff player wasn't Stephen though. Good game everyone! Keep it up!
So Voltron and Prison decks are good. Thanks. We needed a whole video to help us all remember that. Thanks... Been waiting FOREVER for someone to play Sedris on here, and this is what we got. Fun...fun.............fun....
Austin woods they had the corner of dogsnail engine in the back of the set today, that was definitely a hint that they got unstable cards early from wizards :D
Kudos to Jon for the win, good job being prepared for this disgusting and agonizing shitstorm of a magic game. I sure love watching 1 person play Magic.
Also ~47:30 in makes me shake my head when Justin starts his turn and Stephen says "I think you probably need to....make a move" (regarding Jon's board) as if Justin could untap more than 2 things to do stuff, but can't because of Stephen lmao
Either next week or next season's premiere, Jeremy should get to play a pimped out top tier deck of his choice and the others play precons. He deserves it this season
did anyone else notice the Stephen Green still was able to cast tanglewire since it was cmc 3 and Jon has an artifact that adds 1 colorless for each artifact on each players precombat mainphase.
^^ This! Every time I've looked up a specific commander it seems Justin has played them but someone plays something/does stuff that essentially disallows him to play most of the game. It's incredibly sad, especially when most aren't even good commanders IE Sedris, and spiteful Jon has to target only one person all game because he's a petty child.
@57:25 if Jon has 2 copies of Feast and famine on HoG, along with the fireshrieker, shouldn't the game been been 4 sword triggers when he hit Jeremy instead of 2 (because of the way double strike works)? Or did I miss something?
Ryan Lee at first i thought your comment was irrelevant but with how glaringly obvious it is i am i must say i agree with them just getting lazy, or too casual
I think something much worse was Justin and Stephen not exiling their creatures off the curse of the swine, which was really bad since Justin then eternalized that creature
happy 100th episode @justinparnell @stephengreen @jeremynoell @jonathansuarez!!!!!!!! im excited to check out that hog list. i've been looking for fun commander decks to play i got bored with my favorite ones krenko and tasigur any commanders you guys recommend for a list?
It matters even if he only had lands in his hand. It was a "wrong" resolution of the triggers since he remembered half of them. And what "IF" Jeremy had an answer in hand? The game Could have ended in a different way because of this error.
What if, should of , could of. All stuff that dont matter when stuff already happened. YOu can live in magical christmas land, friend. Fact is it didnt matter
Anyone know which video it was were I think it was Wes getting wrecked by I believe it was Steven's Elish Norn cause his deck was full of tiny creatures. I know one of the 4 player videos featured an Elish Norn that ruined someones day because there deck was all small creatures and they couldn't figure out how to remove it.
As a DnT legacy player a friendly reminder if u made contact with a sword (FnI, FnF) on a double strike creature it triggers twice, so Jon's opponents should have discarded 4 cards instead of 2 or at the end 6 cards instead of 3. I was glad to see a tax deck, but I don't blame Jon going full throttle for how poorly he has done in the beginning of the season.
I just hope Jeremy plays this Riku deck again. Seems really fun. So its Justin's deck. Really hope they play it again. Without the no fun game of taxes. Nor the ghirapur articfact nonsense... reeeealy hope!
anyone else notice that a) justin and stephen put their creatures in gy off of the curse of the swine and b) you don't get tokens for commanders that go to the command zone from it but they all did.
Go Team Gold! #teamgold love it! I can see people now getting their static orbs and feast and famines combos coming. Look forward to next week. No more 2nd place.
Alex Poole stax definitely deserves a spot in edh. It's a format that caters degenerate nonsense and something has to be the police. This game was a perfect example of sometimes the best mode on your card is to not play it. Both static orb and mana flare fell into this category and they paid the price for their greed.
well stax sucks when people who play stax misplay it by randomly putting down a card. This game was simply Jon having the right card that counters the stax player. Either way, its understandable why people hate stax.
PSA for points, the final combat of the game, the Hope has doublestrike, so Stephen died before Jeremy, meaning Stephen is in third, and Jeremy in second.
So many negative comments it’s so sad to see. True fans of magic should be able to appreciate all aspects of the game, especially since they’re not the ones actually involved in the game. I enjoyed this video because it’s highlights so many lessons you can learn about edh as a format. And it’s no ones fault that this game swayed so much. Jon had a good draw, everyone else didn’t. It’s not like they all selected their opening hands or anything, these things happen in edh and magic and general. Keep it up #CMDRVS
If people watch these guys for mtg lessons they probably haven't played for long. What this video shows is not why Static Orb should be banned, but why if you want to actually play Magic your group should just agree never play it.
the real title of this video is "why you should never play Static Orb". But looking at the decklists I would LOVE to see a runback, however maybe swap out Orb? maybe something equally traumatizing but not game breaking because one player can untap, like Armageddon!
was the sword of feast and famine that really let jhon go off... the game would have been probably parnel and jeremy going back and fourth with jhon and steven playing police if that had been dealt with some how
Mana flare is just as bad just in the opposite direction, justin probably would've untapped with mana flare and done some super broken stuff and won off mana flare
Nikola Pouliot well no, not really. The reason Jeremy played mana flare was to counter the random Static Orb and give the rest of the table some mana. Doubt he would have played it so soon without being able to fully utilize it on the same turn if it wasn't for the Static Orb. Little did he know that Jon had SofF&F in order to counter the Orb.
Not a huge deal but at 58:30 ish Jeremy should've discarded 4 cards since the HOG had double strike, so each sword hits twice. Also Stephen man c'mon, only play static orb or winter orb if you can abuse it other wise someone else at the table will. #wisemove ?
This was very different but voltron really did it. First time ive ever seen that. Still pushing for Jeremy to play a deck of mine, just have to wait to try again for season 10 #PlaymydeckJeremy
so at 27:40 , the commanders aren't exiled due to the fact that it is a replacement effect to send them to the command zone. ( I havent watched the rest of the video and i assume it's fixed now, but justin and stephen didnt exile their creature)
I like the idea of Hope of Ghirapur voltron, but Sword of Feast and Famine + Static Orb does not make for fun times. I really wanted to see what Jeremy's deck could do...
There have been plenty of games where Jon, or sometimes others, could have easily won the game if they focused on killing one player at a time, but they didn't for the sake of the show. This is the only time i saw someone "tryhard" a game and makes you appreciate even more when they play "poorly" just to make the video enjoyable.
30:20 They should really use the appropriately colored tokens to represent the boars. The boars made by curse of swine are green, and thus cant block creatures holding sword of feast and famine
Am I incorrect in thinking that Jeremy should have discarded 4 cards, then Stephen 6 cards due to the multiple swords and double strike? Also, points for John for actually exiling the Swine cursed creature
I have been a huge fan of the show since the beginning, but I gotta say this was probably the most agonizing game of Commander Vs I have ever watched.
This was the first episode I watched and I thought it was hilarious!.. now I'm hooked!!
Glad I got to help Jeremy with this gem. It was an honor
Happy 100th appearance on Commander Versus, Justin
Yeah, thanks. -_-
You can phone it in from here.
The story for the the second half of this season seems to be "Jeremy Noell gets to sit there doing nothing." Poor guy.
Esper Derek the first half was punting the game anyway so it balances out
Hopefully they collectively agree to power-down decks that kill quickly, rather than forcing Jeremy to make his decks more cutthroat.
Sometimes big dumb stuff in big dumb stuff value engines is what I want commander to be!
I agree. I was really excited for Maelstrom Wanderer and Riku, but we didn't get to see them played.
If they were playing anywhere near cutthroat this wouldn't have happened.
He had pyros goggles and decided not to play it
That Warping Wail made me throw up in my mouth a little.
Nobody expects a Sorcery counter from non-blue decks.
God tier colorless counter!
It's beautiful hope it lets me win the game one day
Welll... that was depressing.
FYI, Looter was exiled by curse of the swine and so shouldn't have been able to be brought back by GPG, also John can't untap mind stone with his sword of feast and famine trigger.
thats why i dont like when ppl put mana rocks w/lands
Also, he was ignoring triggers from faf once he dropped shrieker. Something like 36 mana available before hellkite dealt damage. There were so many bad decisions and poor plays in this episode.
@@tonyontilt3522 me too thanks
That moment where John’s colourless deck counters a spell. Priceless. Keep up the good work. This season has been amazing keep up the good work.
Not sure why they were angry at Jon. This was a direct result of Stephan playing badly and just jamming stax cards bc he could.
I think John said it best himself at the end, "It wasn't me."
I'm not sure if I'm lagging while watching or was the board just THAT frozen....
Welp, would have loved to see that Sedris deck in action. Bad week for #TeamParnell :(
Curious about and excited for next week though! (Side note: Curse of the Swine makes GREEN pigs, so no one could have blocked the equipped pig in Jon's turn after the Curse was cast).
MestHoop and in that same turn cycle justin eternalised an exiled looter il kor so mistakes all around
I gotta say I loved this. John having fun is the best. His counterspell was great. Unstable next week should redeem this week's episode for those that didn't like it.
Justin play Sedris in a revenge video! I was excited to see it play out and that’s what the revenge videos are for, right?
Alex Salerno #teamparnell pull through
That was an amazing edit of the dumb and dumber scene added in. Bravo!
#teamgreen
Will someone let Jeremy play magic one episode??!??
Jeremy plays pretty bad magic tho
True
They should make Stephen Green play Red/Green artifact destruction. Lots of Disenchant.
Look forward to this every week
I started skipping through the episode when static orb came into play to see when it left. Then I hit the end of the video, I'm sad
For everyone asking where the decklists are, they include a link to them in the description of every(?) video? I've seen about half a dozen comments asking lol
Absolutely legit game. Thanks!
At 43 sec I totally expected it going back to Justin and him saying "director Kyle"
Bring back the Sedris deck! Your show, do what you want!
I guess I’ll be the first comment to state a misplay, Looter il-Kor was exiled by curse of the swine so Justin couldn’t get it back with GPG.
This, thing is he plays the card all the time too
Esteban Verde, you were the heart and soul of my life...the embodiment of all the things I love about magic and this format of ours....the foundation of my building that I call EDH...I looked to you above all others for direction and understanding in this mess we call commander...and now you've left me, a man apart, to pick through the pieces of what's left of this format I love so much.....rest happy in the knowledge that you've betrayed me in your pursuit of glory...I only hope that you've found whatever it is you're looking for and that at the end of the day it was worth it.....
This was great. Prison pieces are important components to consider in high level deckbuilding.
At any rate, great video. #Goldstandard #teamstaticorb #teamwinterorb #orbs
Been waiting all week for this, need a break from studying for finals
fvj2199 I have a final is 3 hours. Should I be studying? Probably but Eh, just physics should be easy we live it right?
I love this game, i even lose when the static orb player gets punished.
I love watch one person play in a four man pod. So fun to watch 😒
This whole game I was just thinking, "someone has to draw a vandalblast at some point..." But alas.
What a time to be alive seeing the colorless deck win! What an epic game it could have been for all of you if Stephen didn't play stax.
Personally, I enjoy seeing different kinds of games. This was an interesting episode for me, even if I do feel a little bad for some of you.
There's a theme episode for next season. Decks that didn't get their fair share making a return. Extra point to a player who achieves what the deck is meant to do. Crazy game guys. Lookin forward to the finale, which I can only anticipate to be Unstable?
Lol I was really hype to see all these commanders perform, shame the Kambal Deck was full on control, but what can you do.
Where would you go to submit a deck I would love to have one I've made put on the show for either Steven or Justin to ise
Man I really wanted to see Jeremy's deck do something. Love rikku and the list looks super sweet
As soon as I saw Green was playing Death and Taxes with a static orb I knew this would be a wonderful game.
"Bacon for Everyone."
I'm sad I didn't get to see more of Justin and GrixisGuy's deck but Director Choi unwittingly built an excellent Stax monster for Suarez so I'm not mad. I know people hate them, and they're terrible on video, but a staxx player needed to be highlighted at least once for the channel just so people understand that extra pinch of salt that goes into commander. It's kinda appropriate that the staff player wasn't Stephen though. Good game everyone! Keep it up!
Maxton Young-Jones but Suarez wasnt the stax player (for once lol) it WAS Stephen
So Voltron and Prison decks are good. Thanks. We needed a whole video to help us all remember that. Thanks... Been waiting FOREVER for someone to play Sedris on here, and this is what we got. Fun...fun.............fun....
Sedris looks super sweet. I'm sad that it couldn't show it's potential and got bullied out early. Would love to see it again at some time.
Before the ad ends ima call KAMBAL being Victor but i am excited to see this hope of ghirapur deck
Was very happy to see an artifact deck just work! #TeamSuarez
I appreciate your static orb Stephen.
Guys, when will you do the unstable commander?
Ayyeeeeee, dats my baby. Hope John plays hope well.
5 bucks say its unstable
Austin woods they had the corner of dogsnail engine in the back of the set today, that was definitely a hint that they got unstable cards early from wizards :D
They've had it there for several episodes already.
Jeremy said in his stream the unstable episode will be the holiday episode
I would prefer to see them play Explorers of Ixalan.
Unbelievable
Here we have a great example of why you only drop a Static Orb when you are in Control of the Game.
This is a great episode
Either next week or next season's premiere, Jeremy should get to play a pimped out top tier deck of his choice and the others play precons. He deserves it this season
did anyone else notice the Stephen Green still was able to cast tanglewire since it was cmc 3 and Jon has an artifact that adds 1 colorless for each artifact on each players precombat mainphase.
I feel so bad for Jeremy. He's had a lot of really cool decks the last few weeks that he hasn't got to play...Team Jeremy for life!
That was probably the most unfun game I've seen you guys ever play.
Wouldnt each sword of feast and famine trigger twice? Bc Hope has double strike and it says when it deals combat damage?
@57:25 if Jon has 2 copies of Feast and famine on HoG, along with the fireshrieker, shouldn't the game been been 4 sword triggers when he hit Jeremy instead of 2 (because of the way double strike works)? Or did I miss something?
Did Jonathan untap mindstone with sword of feast and famine?
Yes he did untap it and tapped it in main two in order to equip sword.
yes, but with 10+ lands and a mana flare in play it really didnt make a difference x)
yup... these are almost not worth watching anymore... no one seems to pay attention.
15:17 This is the moment the game slows to a crawl.
31:08 the boar tokens are green, meaning feast and famine will protect from them.
happy 100th episode @justinparnell @stephengreen @jeremynoell @jonathansuarez!!!!!!!! im excited to check out that hog list. i've been looking for fun commander decks to play i got bored with my favorite ones krenko and tasigur any commanders you guys recommend for a list?
Isn't it actually 6 Discard triggers and Untap triggers because he had three copies of it and and it had double strike?
yes but he had no hand after the 3 so who cares
Well, Jeremy only discarded two and should have discarded 4 that mattered
He promptly died after so no it didnt Lol.
Where can fans submit their deck lists?
I'm calling it, next week is Unstable EDH
Calling unstable for next week’s episode, I really hope so. With great static orb, comes great responsibility.
anyone else notice that a) justin and stephen put their creatures in gy off of the curse of the swine and b) you don't get tokens for commanders that go to the command zone from it but they all did.
That was fun to watch as usual
Hope of Ghirapur crushing the hope of commander versus crew. GG Suarez, static orb was your friend.
A lot of people are talking smack on the video being agonizing or depressing. I enjoyed Jon overcoming the orb shutdown. And bring home the win.
"Overcoming"? You mean... being lucky enough to have SoFF in his hand when Static Orb came down? What a bland game.
Kind of a snoozer but boy that dumb and dumber scene clip was totally worth it
Go Team Gold! #teamgold love it! I can see people now getting their static orbs and feast and famines combos coming. Look forward to next week. No more 2nd place.
I enjoyed this. Seeing Justin suffer and John destroy everyone makes me happy. Everyone blaming Stephen was icing on the cake!
at 34:44 was the looter not in exile already from curse of the swine?
How long has a Dogsnail Engine spoiler been in the back of the room?
Fun game guys. Wish people would stop hating of Stax cause you guys have played it multiple times and gotten around it. #TeamSuarez
Alex Poole stax definitely deserves a spot in edh. It's a format that caters degenerate nonsense and something has to be the police. There's a reason why they, as they said at the beginning, don't play that card.
i want to know how to suggest decks to play i got some really good ones
the real title of this video is "why you should never play Static Orb".
But looking at the decklists I would LOVE to see a runback, however maybe swap out Orb? maybe something equally traumatizing but not game breaking because one player can untap, like Armageddon!

What a whipping. That was over from like turn 3
I feel like Stephen did what he was supposed to this whole game! :)
#TeamGreen
This was very different but voltron really did it. First time ive ever seen that. Still pushing for Jeremy to play a deck of mine, just have to wait to try again for season 10 #PlaymydeckJeremy
Slayed everyone with hope of Ghirapur lol! That warping wail!
so at 27:40 , the commanders aren't exiled due to the fact that it is a replacement effect to send them to the command zone. ( I havent watched the rest of the video and i assume it's fixed now, but justin and stephen didnt exile their creature)
MrGelflin The ruling on CotS and similar cards is that you still get the token
I like the idea of Hope of Ghirapur voltron, but Sword of Feast and Famine + Static Orb does not make for fun times. I really wanted to see what Jeremy's deck could do...
Does john get 2 boars since hog didn't go to exile? The card says for each card exiled this way so..., got me thinking
Can we get decklists please?
link in description
Where I don't see it in there this week
Look in video description :p
Richie Thompson try checking the description they put them up every video
www.starcitygames.com/article/36249_Commander-VS-Fan-Request.html
There have been plenty of games where Jon, or sometimes others, could have easily won the game if they focused on killing one player at a time, but they didn't for the sake of the show. This is the only time i saw someone "tryhard" a game and makes you appreciate even more when they play "poorly" just to make the video enjoyable.
PLEASE JUSTIN PLAY THIS DECK AGAIN.
At 57:23 shouldn't Jeremy have discarded 4 cards due to the double strike and double blade?
You four are the Golden Girls of EDH.
Also not that it matters, but double sword plus double strike is 4 discards triggers. This game was lost when static orb was cast.
