Consider a circumstance where one lives almost on a state boundary and their neighbour is a person from the neighbouring state (since I have heard situations where a street is divided by a state border). Assume that the person would contract their neighbour to market their brand and pay the neighbour monthly for $10,000 a month where it would total to $100,000 in compensation over the lifetime of the contract. Would this fall under subject-matter jurisdiction of the federal courts?
Why not? The amount in controversy exceeds $75,000 and the parties have "complete diversity" in their citizenship.
it derives from common law.
