cool video, one of the best X4 reviews I watched today. I love how it picks up more details and also the higher frame rate for action sports. gonna seriously consider whether to purchase when more X3 vs X4 videos are out.
Time to sell my One R and GoPro 11 (that I won) to upgrade.
There’s a noticeable difference between the X4 and the X3 so if you’re upgrading from the one R you’re gonna see a huge improvement in video quality
A good summary, thanks. One question - what sharpness setting did you use? It looks like you set it to medium, which in my view is essential for this particular camera. The low setting just throws away the 8k 360 advantage.

Hi, I would be soo curious to see the same 72MP Pureshot taken with X3 vs X4... If I don't doubt X4 is an upgrade for video, I am wondering if this is a big upgrade for photo?
This might be a reason to get back into 360. The One R's quality when reframed really sucked - 8 K to reframe to 4k seems like a solution.

Think it’s too heavy for a helmet chin mount? Been waiting for them to give us higher resolution forever but I don’t like how big this is and there’s no removable battery wtf…
the battery is actually removable. I do think the weight of it could get a little annoying for a chin mount, though you could try balancing it out with a weight on the back of your helmet as well so it would at least be balanced

No at least not with the insta360 software. the easy thing to do is face in a direction that you think will place the shadow out of frame in your finale shot or film ware you aren’t casting a shadow like on cloudy days or under trees

x3 can capture 72mp photo too... Only big difference is 8k res... Worth it to buy x4? dont think so..

Let's be honest... this is a b-roll camera. It's more clunky than my X2. I like are these cool lens covers, because the rest won't change much. I still see no reason to upgrade from my good X2, but when the X2 breaks down, I'll probably buy... the X5 ;)
The sensor size is 1/2. Just a minor upgrade from 1/2.3. Not worth an upgrade.
Once you reframe a 360 spherical video, what size frame can it output once you export a video?
The software will export a 4K file by default, though you can also choose your own resolution if you suspect that the way that you framed, the video will include more pixels, the true resolution of the video is going to vary, depending on how much you de-warp and how much you crop into the video. every slight variation is going to make a difference to the true video resolution but with all of the preset crop modes comparing the footage next to 4K footage it seems pretty comparable if not slightly higher resolution.

Yes, it’s waterproof. I personally haven’t had a chance to test it out at night, but I’m assuming the nighttime video is either the same or maybe just a slight improvement over the X3
Again they release a new camera that has features missing that it should have by now....normal.mode only 4k 60fps it needs to be 120fps by now

Who’s watching 8k video?
The point is not to watch it back at 8k it is so that after cropping into the 360 video you are still left with a video with good resolution closer to 4k
Not as portable as before though.
It's really not that impressive unless you have never owned one before.
1. 8K didn't do all that much and at 2.7k flat video still looks well... flat. 8K isn't really 8K when flattening video. Most youtubers with SELL links aren't going to tell you this.
2. Color science is off STILL. New chip did nothing for that.
3. Artifacts are awful still.
4. Blurry around the edges and that is very annoying for something that is supposed to be "game changing".
5. Ai features are a novelty not a plus.
6. Green hue and flare when using lens protectors.
7. Using RUclipsrs to sell their cameras because they can't do it on their own through actual innovation.
8. Same Lens / Same sensor as the previous version, NO impovements- same excuse as to why they dont improve.
9. Marginally better than the X3. The 1RS is bad, wasn't great from the start (anyone can search video examples of this). The X4 isnt better than that, so yeah.
10. Cash grab from them. They don't give cameras for review to those who will be blatantly honest and allow them to point out flaws. really a shame.
