Wow! I love this...so great to see your entire process. What a beautiful and vibrant yellow. Cool editing and music too. I have not gone to Patreon yet...but it’s on my list!
I wish you'd include a tiny bit of info about safety when making your own paints - in using a cadmium pigment, many people come into my art shop and try to open the jars and touch pigments with their bare hands :( it's carcinogenic! I'm glad you wore gloves but just chat about it a little bit would be great
@@AlpayEfe i was wondering why you were using cadmium when modern substitutes are widely considered to be better. yes i also wanted some discussion when i saw that ominous CAD label
Word of advice to people that are unaware: *NEVER EVER EVER* scrape cadmium paints or play with pigment powder unless you have all the ventilation and protective gear. Cadmium is a nasty carcinogen.
Modern cadmium paints are perfectly safe. There is far more risk in using some solvents or crossing the road. No need whatever for this irresponsible scare-mongering.
@@stevegrant6464 "Paints"... yes. But "powder" is another thing. In oil paint you are not exposed to breath the powder. The only risk is to eat it. But powder is just more risky.
I think it’s a beautiful result. You’re a fantastically gifted painter, and it’s truly fun to see someone with your level of talent step outside the box and try something you may not necessarily be comfortable with. Hope to see more of these exploratory journeys!!
I once saw an art book at the used book store about a guy who only did fine art oil painting with his fingers. It was really fascinating. He had all kinds of techniques and his paintings turned out similar but different to what you expect from normal brush application. It was from the 1970’s and I wondered if that was more popular back then. Great painting! I can’t imagine how long it took for that sucker to dry!
@@theperson5205 I wish I did. I did some digging on google and couldn't find anything. i think the only thing I can say is that i'm fairly sure the painter was a man, and his paintings were reminiscent of Bob Ross's style with strong vibrant colors and imaginary landscapes. I may try going back to see if the book is still there but I doubt it is as it was a while ago.
I make my own paint - but for other reasons. And I found your approach to be interesting - why did you choose to make this paint? Wasn't there any cheap paint you could have substituted? That was a waste of time, energy, and money! Cadmium Yellow is not meant to be smeared on a canvas like that - it will take days on end to dry and if you just used Linseed oil it will crack in a few years - And the reason you use a Muller? Is not because you are making a batch! It is because you need to open the pigments to evenly distribute the oil into the pigments - just mixing the oil and pigments around is not going to make good paint, ask Micheal Harding -
@@recoveringsoul755 I thought the same thing when I saw it was Cadmium Yellow. It is best to wear a respirator rated for cadmium dust. Beautiful painting!
What I never managed to learn in high school is to just go to town with the paint. Like I love how much is used on the hair! Such a thick layer! I was always way too economical (?) because I never wanted to have paint left on my plate so my layers of paint were always way to thin. I sometimes think about starting to paint but this idea of "you shall not waste paint!" is still ingrained in me. ._.
Hi! I know it's been a year since you wrote this comment. I'd love to hear about whether you've started or not / how it's going. If you haven't started it, I really wanna encourage you to try. I know the fear of "wasting" paint, but sometimes it gives so much character, for example when you search up impasto paintings. lol, not really foolproof. If you add too much oil not only can it slide off your canvas but too much oil will make in turn muddy (brownish yellow) looking over time so it won't last for hundreds of years. It is beautiful to watch oil paint being made.
If you have never painted with your hands before have you even painted yet? 😆😛
