Over the course of the next few months, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, will bring you updates on The Ghost Inside drummer, Andrew Tkaczyk, as he progresses through outpatient rehabilitation after his bands' horrific November 2015 tour bus accident.
In Episode 1 of this ongoing series, Mary Free Bed's Dr. Stephen Bloom discusses Andrew's injuries and the ways in which Mary Free Bed will work to rehabilitate him and also how we plan to adapt the drum kit to Andrew's new normal. Rock on. #AskForMary

This might be the most metal doctor I've ever seen.

I too am a drummer with one leg....I lost my left leg to cancer in 2008. I thought I would be finished as a drummer among other things I love to do...My doctor told me after my surgery to remove the leg, "Not only are you going to do EVERYTHING you did before, but now you are going to find BETTER ways of doing them...." After a short period of doubt, one by one I started finding ways to do things again that required two legs before....I now play drums using 3 sets of high hats. One set closed, one set halfway open, and the 3rd set all the way open..And I use my hands to work on them in play, which gets the effect of playing one high hat with a foot.....Many people have said, "I didn't even notice you had one leg until you stood up from behind the drums and walked off stage"....Which is the highest compliment I feel I've ever recieved as a drummer! Next I went back to water skiing....My amputation is high and includeds part of my hip,so I've never worn a prostetic leg,and walk only with the aid of fore arm crutches....My advice to anyone this happens too? Given the time, you WILL naturally develop ways around your disability if you try hard and want it bad enough....The body is unbelievable at finding ways to do this teamed up with motivation and the desire to do what you aim for...Never throw up your hands and sit in the wheelchair WISHING you could do this or that. Or that WILL be the very result you get! Go Andrew! Your an inspiration for many!!!

I wonder if that lava lamp there ever met it's inevitable doom....
But on a serious note. He couldn't have got a better doctor, this guy relates to him on many levels just from the drums

This is truly so influential and inspirational, and frankly you succeeded in getting him behind the kit again! All the congrats in the world couldn't possibly suffice.

This is some great news, I truly hope to see Andrew on his kit again whether it is sooner or later I just hope he recovers and has the ability to rock again. Good luck with everything man, I am in school to be an Occupational Therapy Assistant and I am looking forward to helping people in these situations get back to their normal lifestyle.
