Another great review Nathan! Thank you for the shout outs.
Thanks Art for the ration
These are sold at every outdoors shops here in Norway as hiking food. Most of them are quite good.
Agreed.
Xxl 🤣
Yes they are good, the best is artic curry.
Torsk i kremet karrisaus
Pasta i oste saus ❤
Real in Norwegian means something like proper, hearthy. I've eaten 15 year old versions of these and they are still good.
"Proper" is probably the best translation, it is usually used in a more "hardy" kind of way then a direct translation would give you the impression of tho.
1. The bottom of the bag (main dish) can be separated in the corners, making the bottom of the bag itself flat, which in turn makes the mixing easier and won't leave some of the freeze dried stuff dry and nasty in the "crevices" of the bag. Just a tip.
2. Most of these meals gets better if you put in a little more water than you think you'll need, and close it up with the zip lock, fold the edge and shake it to mix the freeze dried food with the water.
3. After a couple of weeks, living of off these courses, you'll notice that they all have kind of a "typical" taste to them. They're still good tho. Better than most MREs on the market.
4. Here I Norway you can buy these in most sports outlets/stores, but these Arctic survival meals are special in the way that they have more kcal per serving. The "Sicilian" version comes in an orange bag instead of the green one you have there.
This is a vegiterian alternative meal, hence no meat!
As it is an Arctic ration it still contains about 1300Kcal pr ration/bag.
Better than the good, old RSP.....
We used to eat 3 of these each day during field training when I was serving my manditory service here in Norway. Made you shit out bricks😂
We used to joke about drinking some F34 to combat the shit bricks
@@ottonessaljosdal7192 Well, the coffee tasted like f 34...
USE MORE WATER you infatard! XD
Damn, var det ingen som fortalte deg at du skulle ha i vann før du spiste dem?
We still eat them, and they still make you shit bricks 😂
So the deal with arctic field rations is that they're meant to be 5000 kcal+ due to the increased energy consumption in cold environments. So yeah, it makes sense that it's a huge ration.
you can buy these directly from Drytech. some pack are only sold domestic, but allot of the menu is avaliable for foregin sales. Just note that shipping from Norway is rather expensive
Cut the glue/ weld in the bottom 2 corners on the meal poutch. Then you can fold out the botom.
Sitts flatter and easyer to get it all mixed.
ahh..takk,skal prøve. jeg snur de opp ned og rister

This exact menu is known among the conscripts to be one of the worst, you are a brave man Nathan!
Great review! Quick tip: the bottom corners of the pouch are meant to be pulled apart. This will get you a wider base.
Actually thats not true. As an sergent when i was in the army i usee to instruct my soldiers that, but one of my soldiers disagreed, we had an argument, but it ended when the bastard caleed the company who produses the feeld rations. He was right. And as a side note, if you pull them apart you will not get the right amount of water if you fill it to the fill line.
But it also brings the food closer to the ground, so if you place it somewhere it will get cold faster
Pro tip! if you seperate the connection on the bottom of the meal bag. the bag sist more stabel to the surfaces and it¨s easier to mix the dryed food and water.
You really should try the Chicken Tikka Masala! Great review!
Fun fact! The Gum that you get from the MRE that the Norwegian army is using contains small amount of laxatives
I lived on MREs for several months during Desert Shield/Storm with no ill effects. They never made my stomach hurt.
The "celery, gluten, lactose, soy" part is for allergy advice, not necessarily important ingredients.
It is very simplistic and easy to use.
At first REAL sold the orange main meals to civilians and the REAL field to the military.
Now a days, the arctic field rations are sold to consumers, hikers and hunters. 3 of those rations are considered a 24 hour ration.
The price for one arctic ration is about 20 USD.
before you cut open the Couscous bag, take the corners at the bottom and tear/cut them apart. That way it is much easier to stir and eat the food at the bottom.
Nope. According to Drytech, leave them. If you pull them apart, you will need more water.....
@@Lassisvulgaris They usually need way more water than recommended anyways!
@@thebackstagekangaroo True. Many prefer a moist consistence. I just pointed out Drytech's recomendation....
We like our coffees black here in Norway. Except if you're from Trondheim like, technically, me. Then you're allowed to mix it with himkok. :D
From Russia with Love!!! Нравятся твои видео, продолжай так же чувак!!!!))))
A lot more came in that bag than I woulda thought.
Have eaten these for 2 weeks straight. During longer periods in the field we would ad butter and cheese to the main meals.
Got kinda disturbed stomach after a few days, but not anything serious.
If you eat them dry you get super constipated.
We added a spoon of butter to every meal
one of these will be in my next order from Foreign MRE
Why am I watching this? And why is it entertaining
I think my favorite is the reindeer stew I love that one. Yeah the peach drink is definitely the best unless you don't like peaches , if that's the case WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU 😅🤣😂🤣 awesome review brother.
I tell you what that COD stew i had was really good too
My favourites are the kebab stew and chicken curry. I make sure to take a few home with me after an FTX, if I’ve got any leftover rations. Nice to have in case of an emergency 😛
O you can live off those Real meals. I did for 14 days. We bay those meals in the shop here. 😁 Yes I'm Norwegian.
I love Art and Nina! You are pretty awesome too Nathan! Great videos brother!
Thanks Gary
What do you think about Aliumium engines are they strong enough for hard duty
I have have had some of the civilian REAL products, kind of expensive but very good stuff, i recommend the chili con carne meal. you find it in sporting goods stores over here, very convenient for hunting or camping.
The chocolate most likely reads Brunberg. Atleast as long as I have seen Real meal chocolate, it is always Brunberg. Stands for Brunberg chocolate factory, which is based in Finland. Interesting branding thing. Though it is in completely different dry tech "Real Meal" wrapping anyone atleast in Nordics would know based on the molded name "Hey Drytech buys their chocolate from Brunberg".
Since one of the hall marks of Brunberg chocolate is, that each small piece has the company name on it. Their chocolate sold on their own brand has those and even with different main branding so do these pieces. So Brunberg was contracted by Drytech to make the bars, they have their existing molds with the name on them. It then just fit Drytech just fine to let Brunberg stamp their name on the actual chocolate. Of course Brunberg want's to promote their brand and well since it is known respected quality chocolate factory Drytech is more than happy to let it be known.
So it let's Drytechs customers know: Our company doesn't cheap out, including in the chocolate. This isn't no name random stuff. It is always made for us by Brunberg. Our stuff is quality stuff, including the chocolate.
Dark Choco From Field Norway I Like It ☺
Very nice review!
Brunberg is Finnish candy maker
I had my fingers crossed it was a rare Russian ration, but this Norwegian will due 😂
There are only so many rare Russian rations in the world
I served in the Norwegian army last year and the coscous is the worst option haha, i always gagged when i got it
Didn't you exchange it with someone else? We always got different menues.....
@@Lassisvulgaris yeah but all the boys rly disliked the fish and the coscous so no one would trade
@@peppstorro324 That's a shame. I always liked all, so it was never a problem. But then, being used to the good, old SP, with RSP, every change was for the better....
@@Lassisvulgaris How old are you??? 😀 I haven't seen RSP for 20 years...

I often watch your videos Nathan. I sense that US meals tend to put too much salt and food coloring. I'm I right?
Well they are some what like a tv dinner in a pouch
@@NathansMRE Cool. I've never had an actual MRE. Tunisia is one of the few countries that have not switched to MREs since our army is small and used only inside the territory so they can bring hot food from nearby barracks
Hopefully I can get one posted to Geordie land.
They're in all the shops over by me. You need to see if Sports Direct can get them in ;)
Amazon UK have them, at least the single meals from Real.
Kraakesolv legend thank you
Martin von Bargen wicked thank you for this.
Mint
You can by just the main meal as real turmat or something at realoutdoorfood.com/no/
Do you like mre’s with your water lol 😂
I am here man, rough & ready wow :) M*
Good i hope you enjoy the video
Damn, he sent you one of the worst ones they make. They have so many dishes that are way, way better. Also in norway you can buy them everywhere and in every sports store, not everything but the main dish s for anyone interested just buy them on any norwegian sports stores web page.
I picked this one , it was good , i already reviewed most of the other menus

Nice review, but I have to say that its vegetariarian
For several reasons. Norwegian conscrips come from all religions; some can't eat meat at all, some only particular meats. Norway is also participating in several INTOPS, and in case of human disaters, vegetarian meals are aiways safe, regardless of religious preferances.....
lassisvulgaris Ja fullstendig klar over de punktene.

@rockn roll potato, potato. Either way, the US is a bit more relevant as a cultural influence these days. Makes more sense to mention them.
@rockn roll obviously, but still doesn't make britain any more relevant
I love Norwegian the drinks and the mains are great. The drytec company does great. Awesome timing on main lol. Nice presentation and Review!
Interesting: His own military's field rations were described a just as likely to kill you in the long run as the enemy - while the Norwegian arctic rations were tasty but mild (not too salty, not overly sweetened) to the point that they would leave your stomach at peace. A compliment, if I ever heard one!
Have probably eaten 500++ of these and yet here I am.. Looking up a review of the very same MRE..😅

Nice new review Nathan. I eat the Norwegian rations so often, even at work i have them for lunchtime sometimes. Last one was the Cod menu. Best one is the Labskaus menu. Love it. The breakfast menus are also very good. The chocolate looks very good after the long journey
Artic field rations are on of the best rations out there... a great review
As someone with bowel disease it's interesting to hear those US soldiers' anecdotes.
I have to be careful about what I eat now, because the last thing you need is to be stuck out on the trail somewhere with a spraying bum.
I have eaten those 15 years after the date on the package and still taste the same.
The unofficial best before are 20 years after production according to inside sources at Drytech
You and Steve1989 are my favorite reviewers. I know you guys are always honest about the quality and taste.
Thank you Debbie
That Steve will pretty much eat anything
Those cranberry bars were a godsend in a cold leaking tent during winter warfare exercises.
Count yourself lucky that you did not get the catfish soup..
Between you and Stevemre1989 y'all are the best ration reviewers
Interestingly enough,I find your use of the word "interesting" to be very interesting.
This is a vegetarian dish. The "meat" is soya meat. Only thing non vegan is the cream in the sauce.
What? You'd expect to see skins on peanuts? Hell no! The only time you see skins on peanuts is if you buy monkey nuts in the shells, or you buy them to feed to birds.
Squawking adds character to your chair. 😂
Stay safe! ✌️
Yummy and looks like a good mre
I think the point of the cranberry bar is that it remains edible for a while below freezing temperatures. The chocolate bar might as well be a hammer in -15 degree weather.
Always a pleasure Nathan... hey I watched someones MRE some days ago, ( You know him too ) I'd swear he was drunk lol ;)
Thanks man for watching all the videos
Hey Big Nate 😀
Great video
Great video
We have reviewed this one twice I liked it so much!!!
Thanks guys , norwegian rations don't disappoint
Interesting nathan!
Kanelbollen er ikke god
I know americans and others like our MRE. I once traded a big dark chocolate bar for four packs of cigarettes in a winter excercise! I had like five or six of them chocolates in my pocket when i met them. Left there with a bag full off stuff I traded with them! :D
as a Norwegian i actually have a few of these that i use for when i go hiking for a weekend. you need to use the gum after the meal as the sweetener in the gum works as a mild laxative helping with the gastrointenstinal distress you will have after a few days on the MRE`s
I often hear stories from norwegians on tour with other foreign forces trade their mre's for American, British or who ever they working with to get something better and more tasty to eat, while the others are left disappointed and unhappy with our food lmao
Just a funny notice, a lot of people in the norwegian army often trade food with the americans at our camp because they feel like those are better.
honestly all the norwegian mre's are great the first time. but i ate so much that i hate all types now :p
Is that vegetarian?
Yes
Oh dear that’s the worst one :D remember eating this with cold water on a winter exercise. Good memories.
Finally, that intro is gone!
I have not used a intro in a very long time
Nathan's MRE I haven’t watched a video in a very long time, that’s how bad it was.
u bought the nastiest taste
Not Jonestown Koolade.
With the energy drinks, pour in some hot water first. It will disolve everything, then add the cold water
Or drink it hot. In cold weather, the body will use much energy to heat up.cold beverages and food. Therefore, never eat snow. That is, EAT the yellow snow. It might just be beer.....
Whats the name on the chocolate? I know the wrapper says REAL but whats stamped into the actual chocolate? Asking for a friend...
It's "Brunberg", a Finnish chocolate producer.
@@espenliland Thank you!
I'm sure they put a lot of effort into making them good and healthy, but I'd appreciate if they put some meat in there too.
I know right
For some reason vegeterians get mad when they do that....
This is the vegeterian alternative to regular meat rations.
There are several menus, both fish and meat. One reason for the vegetarian menu, is that Norwegian conscripts (yes we have conscription, for both men and women) are of different religions, like Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh etc, etc, some can't eat meat, or only some kinds of meat. Norway is also participating in several INTOPS, so in case of having to help in major disasters, a vegetarian option is safe, in case of religious preferances. As in all countries, we will exchange menus we don't like.
BTW, EAT the yellow snow. It might just be beer.....
@@Lassisvulgaris I'm just saying that as an infantry soldier (which I was), I'd like some meat in there. I didn't realize this was a vegetarian meal.
@@HERMOSABEACHGUY I completly agree, I also tried to avoid the veggie menus, though the pasta with tomato sauce wasn't too bad. We would always trade, when possible. I enjoyed bot US and French MRS.
However, as I said, these are for people with religious needs. I don't think vegans will be conscripted, nor even wanting to serve....
Hey guys, for $44.00 you can eat 1300 calories of this freeze dried shit. What a deal.
Oh yeah, they sell those at a store not far from here. Fucked up the water somehow, so it wasn't the best meal I've had
