Ezekiel 9:4 "Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it."
Genesis 18:27 "And Abraham replied, Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes."
Ashes as a sign of penitence. 2 Samuel 13:19 "And Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the long robe that she wore. And she laid her hand on her head and went away, crying aloud as she went."
No one is required to keep the ashes on his or her face, but some choose to, as a reminder to themselves that they are mortal and fallible.
Revelation 18:19 "And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning "
The ashes are burnt palms used on Passion Sunday/Palm Sunday of the previous year. Numbers 19:17 "Then for the unclean person they shall take some of the ashes of the burnt purification from sin and flowing water be added to them in a vessel."
The ashes are a reminder to us that we will one day die, and that we must repent.

Jesus Recignizes the Practice of Ashes.
JESUS say in Matthew 11:21 "Woe to you, Chora'zin! Woe to you, Beth-sa'ida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes."
Even JESUS recognizes this practice of Ashes as an OUTWARD SIGN of inward repentance.
If they have repented of their sins; AT LEAST, in an external way, signified by sackcloth and ashes, which were outward signs of repentance; see Isaiah 58:5. And which, if it had been ONLY performed in such a manner by the inhabitants of Chora'zin and Beth-sa'ida, would have saved them from temporal judgments, which their sins now called for.

In the Bible Wednesday is called "yom re*vi*ee," - "the fourth day." To refresh your memory, here are the accomplishment of Creation on the fourth day of our planet: "And God made two great lights; the large light to rule the day, and the small light to rule the night; and he made the stars." (Genesis 1:16)
Yom re*vi*ee indicates the ordinal number forth. "Yum" means "day" and "re*vi*ee simply means "the forth." The related cardinal number is "ar*ba" (fourth). Also, the numeral "quarter" is derived from this word. The urban division into areas of old and modern cities is called by the same name. When you visit Jerusalem, for example, you'll notice that old city is divided into four quarters: 1. The Jewish Quarter 2. The Armenian Quarter 3. The Muslim Quarter and The Christian Quarter.

Luke 6:45 "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." Jesus tells us how can we know a person's character. We will know the tree by its fruit (Luke 6:43-44). An evil man brings evil words out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. If a person is angry, rude on a regular basis, you can be assured that this is what he is like on the inside.

      Also:
Genesis 18:27 "And Abraham replied, Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes."
Ashes as a sign of PENITENCE.

No one is required to keep the ashes on his or her face, but some choose to, as a reminder to themselves that they are mortal and fallible.
      Read also,
Revelation 18:19 "And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning "
The use of ashes as an outward sign of grief, a mark of humility, mourning, penance and morality. The Old Testament is filled with stories describing the use of ashes in such a manner.
(Ellicott's Commentary) The word MARK in Ezekiel 9:4 "...and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men..." is literally a Tau, the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This, in many of the ancient alphabets, and especially in that in use among the Hebrews up to this time, and long retained upon their coins, was in the form of the cross - x or +. Much stress was laid upon this use of the sign of the cross as mark for the Divine mercy by the older Christian writers, Tertulian, Origen, Cyprian, and Jerome. This marking was done, it is taken from such passages as Genesis 4:15 "...so Yahweh put a mark on Cain...); Exodus 12:7; Exodus 13:13; Exodus 28:36.
The Jews have interpreted this sign variously, some considering that "Tau," being the last of the Hebrew letters, and so closing the alphabet, denoted completeness, and thus the mark indicated the completeness of the sorrow for sin in those upon whom it was placed.
Why do Catholics have their foreheads signed with ashes in the form of a Cross on Ash Wednesday?
Because in the Bible a mark on the foreheads is a symbol of a person's ownership. By having their foreheads marked with the sign of a Cross, this symbolizes that the person belongs to Jesus Christ, who died on a Cross.
The Greek for forhead is METOPON, it is taken from the word META which defined as "in the midst of, amid, denoting association, union, accompaniment." This all speaks of the one with whom we are joined, who we fellowship with and are, therefore, like-minded. The forehead represents the one whose mind we have been given through walking in agreement. Revelation 22:4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
Ashes are a reminder of our death. It is a symbol of sorrow for our sins. The symbol of dust that comes from the Book of Genesis: "You are dust and to dust you will return."
It is a symbol of our mortality and repentance. The ashes are a visible reminder that we are always searching for our souls, seeking the meaning of life. It is also an invitation for us to confront our own weakness.
Throughout Scripture, ashes are important SYMBOL of grief and repentance, like dust, to which our bodies return. The Israelites and their forebears were especially aware of this.
In Genesis 18:27. Abraham's expression, dust and ashes, "contrasts the lowliness of mortals with the dignity of God."
Job uses the phrase twice, saying with great anguish in Job 30:19. And again in Job 42:6 as an acknowledgement of his NEED for forgiveness. The NIV Cultural Background Study Bible tells us that of displaying your sorrow and repentance with literal ashes is a typical practice in ancient Israel and is a sign of honoring God. The prophet Daniel, too, used ashes to show his distress and repentance, and king David writes of eating ashes in Psalm 102 to prove the depth of his lament.

To refresh your memory, here are the accomplishment of Creation on the fourth day of our planet: "And God made two great lights; the large light to rule the day, and the small light to rule the night; and he made the stars." (Genesis 1:16)

Soriano intenionaly LIED and fabricated story to destroy, he said "kaya lang itong mga nakaraan hindi na abo, yun uling na. Ezekiel 9:4 "Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it."
      Also:
Genesis 18:27 "And Abraham replied, Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes."
Ashes as a sign of PENITENCE.
2 Samuel 13:19 "And Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the long robe that she wore. And she laid her hand on her head and went away, crying aloud as she went."
No one is required to keep the ashes on his or her face, but some choose to, as a reminder to themselves that they are mortal and fallible.
      Read also,
Revelation 18:19 "And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning "
The use of ashes as an outward sign of grief, a mark of humility, mourning, penance and morality. The Old Testament is filled with stories describing the use of ashes in such a manner.

Ezekiel 9:4 "Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it."
Daniel 9:3-6 "When I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashed." This is an outward sign of their inward pisture of repentance.

He LIED. Lier preacher.
Sabi ni Soriano "unang Miyerkules ng sinisa" mali na naman. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Lent come from the Latin word Quadragesima, meaning fortieth. Sa tagalog pa ay "apatnapung." Hango sa Ebanghelyo ni Marcos 1:12. Kaya nasa Biblia yan. Christians honor the 40 days and nights when Jesus went into the desert without water and food and was tempted by Satan.
