    As someone who also has a channel, has a crochet business, is her Pastor’s Administrator, church board member, Executive Director over the project leader for my church, Sunday school adult teacher, and daycare teacher; this year I waited for HP to have their year end sale and just dug in with different layouts. Yep, Jesus take the wheel, the trunk, the whole car! Ok. lol 😝 I so get it Liz, I get it.

    I always love Hobonichi for creative journaling. The thinner paper holds up surprisingly well to paint and water-colors, not to mention junk journaling. ❤

      That’s what’s so crazy to me!! It’s so thin but people swear by it for other mediums! It may be hard for me to ride that train but we’ll see - I have two options for creative stuff, and one is the thinner paper.

    I'm so tempted to have all kinds of separate planners for different things because they're all so cool.
    Good vibes for your goals. The hubs and I started a weight loss journey in August 2022 for health reasons. He lost 70 # and I lost 50 #. It's just how we live now. New habits. You got this!
    I recommend making your goals things you have more control of like step counts, days you tracked food all day, days you worked out, days you stayed within you nutrition numbers etc. Tracking the things that made the weight come off was easier to attain. Daily wins that kept me going.

    • @thejoyfulsojourn

      Thanks Erin! I went on a fitness/health journey several years ago and was incredibly successful for a long while because I was motivated by the trackers and breaking things down into one-day, one-decision at a time goals. So I definitely want to pick that up again!

    Have you ever considered taking a 7 days worth of hourly pages and fill it in like you would love your week to look like in a perfect world. Include all your travel time to all the things, work, dropping off the baby, working out etc. maybe that would help you figure out using your line up? I’m worried that you don’t have enough hours in the day. Having a toddler and working full time is so hard. I know you will get it all figured out.

    Budget - I absolutely dig in my heels when it comes to the idea of budgeting. It makes me feel deprived. A few years ago I started using an HP monthly to track our bills and spending. For the first time EVER I started paying my bills on time. Tracking our spending helped me be aware of where our money was going. I'm going to continue using my expense tracker this year, but I'm also going to use the Kell of a Plan budget planner too. I'm hoping I can finally learn to follow a budget.

    • @thejoyfulsojourn
      @thejoyfulsojourn  6 месяцев назад

      Budget is a thing for me too! All our bills are on auto pay so it’s not something I ever think about. But that’s the problem- I am not tracking where our money is going, it just leaves the account every month! So really I’m looking to keep a transactions log for at least a few months so I can see the categories where money is going to.

    • @rinyamashita
      @rinyamashita 6 месяцев назад

      It's not turely important what budget you give yourself at any point of your life. I count my savings as fixed cost and it helped me to save a lot in 6 month as it keeps me from spending too much. Also in one I'd spend 100 in one category but the next 4 month I won't buy anything in that category. So setting myself a budget per category didn't work.
      Cash Stuffing on the other hand does as the money set aside per category just accumulated ready for me to spent.
      You need to figure out how to trick yourself into doing something that gives you the result you want.
      I also have to keep my saving separate from my "monthly available money" money. 😂 Adding frixion to spend money is also nice. For me to be able to spend my savings I have to transfer it into my monthly available money account. True it's not a lot of frixion just enough to keep me hinging a little longe about what I'm about to buy.
      Online shopping is sooo bad for me... 🤣😭

      Testing layouts you see in an empty notebook to see what works saves you a ton of money. And could be helpful in figuring out what you need.
      Wanting is one thing but what counts is what you need and is helping you with getting things done and calming your mind.

    I enjoyed the vulnerability and humanity of this video Elizabeth. Simple because this is a struggle that a lot of planner folks go through. I myself managed to par down to three planners this year cuz I have had more in years bygone but I simply couldn’t keep up with them all. My helpful suggestion is to use the Jane’s Agenda half letter as your catch all/family biz planner where you track any major meetings, appointments or other top priority events (especially since it’s portable) All the best for 2024 and your fitness journey!

    • @thejoyfulsojourn

      Shakira this message totally blessed me, thank you!! I like your suggestion for using the half letter as my catchall - it probably would be enough space since I've separated so many areas into other planners.

    Fun video.. glad you are getting it processed.. I’m only half way through but as you talk about the gray H and Oak book… I’m thinking. Remember that any book you start can carry over into a lifetime of tracking. Example. Book or movie journal can start with this year but keep going year to year until filled up.. just like our grandma and great grandmas might have done only as their life journals.. thanks for sharing your progress and thoughts ..Happy New Year..

      @thejoyfulsojourn  7 месяцев назад

      That is a REALLY great suggestion, thank you! I hadn't considered the day free for journaling, but you're right - I could split up the page as I write and never feel too much concern about space!

  • @lkreinmiller-author
    @lkreinmiller-author 7 месяцев назад

    I've journaled off and on for years (I'm 74) and have found it is easier to keep all my thoughts, emotions, travel memories, and creative for-me activities (sketching, doodling, poetry, designing) in a single book. I prefer undated because sometimes it is several days or even weeks between entries. I also prefer a size small enough to fit into a purse or backpack, so no larger than a 5x7 works best for me. Blank or lined/gridded, whatever doesn’t matter. I’ve used them all. But the dates thing has never worked for a flexible no pressure journal.
    Good luck in all your decisions.

    • @thejoyfulsojourn
      @thejoyfulsojourn  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for sharing!! So you prefer undated planners with some structure, or just completely blank, for journaling??

    • @lkreinmiller-author
      @lkreinmiller-author 7 месяцев назад

      @@thejoyfulsojourn I prefer to journal - keep my thoughts, etc - in undated blank books. That way no guilt if there are 6 days or 6 months between entries. Or I used to. Now everything is on my iPad.
      I don’t use an actual planner, unless you count my iPad. Calendar. Contacts. Lists. Thoughts. Schedule. Notes. Creative planning. Everything is in my iPad. Even the "list" of books I read and when (it keeps track for me as I almost only read e-books or listen to audio books).

    What a valuable video! I think many of us struggle with what type(s) of planner(s) to use. It made me think about my choices. I don't have any firm suggestions. I've decided to use all disc bound - and all Kell of a Plan (Watercolor Florals for catch-all, Faith for Bible Study, and the Reading for personal reading - but also for tracking my schedule for our church library as I am the librarian there). I'm actually Franken planning them since I don't like to keep up with multiple planners. I do have a little pocket calendar that I keep in my purse for appointment and other commitments I've made. I don't have a super busy schedule so I think that will be enough for me. I do add KOAP Daily Pages on busy days or when I need to just get things done! My husband is retiring soon and we need to track our spending for a few months at least to get a handle on cash flow so I may add some kind of expense log (maybe KOAP budget pages). Thank you for this video. I will be praying for you as you intentionally make the changes you feel you need to make for this next phase in your life! Hope you are going to be at GO WILD in 2024. Would love to meet you!!!!

    Instead of thinking in journals and planners how about a pointing certain spaces within a planner for some areas like your health documentation goes into the monthly overview or something like that.
    For the monthly hobonichi it could be your catch all or or social media planner depending on how much you have to plan for it.

  • @rinyamashita
    @rinyamashita 6 месяцев назад

    The undated ones you could keep for next your or so and concentrate on the dated planners first as those would be more difficult to work with next year.

  • @marachristian8726
    @marachristian8726 7 месяцев назад

    I have multiple planners/notebooks, too! That's actually intentional, so I can work through my "hoard" of blank notebooks and undated planners in all different sizes! I have started a faith journal, too, and when I come across a verse that really speaks to me, I have a blank notebook to transfer those verses as a calligraphy or creative lettering exercise. Eventually, I will use that notebook as a resource because I want to make junk journals for my friends and fill it with "tuck spots" that contain those Bible verses, and for my non-Christian friends I'll fill them with motivational quotes or funny expressions. Unfortunately, I work full-time and that darn job really interferes with my hobbies, LOL!

    I fell in love with hobonichi… and sterling Ink common planner. I hate spirals because of writing over the coil. I’m also a planner finisher, I have to complete it for a year. I still like Disk system but I’m not liking HP releases at all anymore. I’m moving to bound for my edc (hobo a6), and my main catch-all (Sterling Ink a5). I use HP big for my teacher, but it’s old and I buy other refills and I have given up all the other HP planners that I frankenplanned- health, faith etc. because I have figured out that can all fit in my daily pages I’m my a5. It’s planner peace and freedom because it’s less books and less decisions and less fatigue. It’s draining to have too much and too many. I’m at a point where it’s a tool to serve me, not another thing that’s overwhelming
    and not functional. I mean functionality first. But I still have so much freedom in my A5 daily pages to be creative and journal and do pretty much anything I want on the daily.

    • @thejoyfulsojourn
      @thejoyfulsojourn  7 месяцев назад +1

      That's impressive, getting everything to fit in an A5! I love that size but it'd be hard for me to fit some many different subjects in it. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a completed planner in 2024. It's a new goal of mine!

    OK, so many thoughts... 🤔 😅
    First, when making a creative journal choice, definitely consider if you're going to be adding things like stickers, photos, scrapbook paper, etc because if you are your going to want to pick something that doesn't have a hard spine because it will crack and break. So go for something more flexible. That being said, if you're just going to draw, don't worry about it.
    Next, love that for a memory keeper! It's soooo cute!!!
    Social media planner sounds good. You can also draw lines to make more sections so you can just put the content on the left and check off the sections as you work through the process.
    Now for the big one,
    Hourly
    Health, wellness, period, intimacy...
    Might feel redundant if it's not in the same planner because if you want to track what you're doing hourly, you're going to have to log that you went to the gym, walked, or whatever there and in another planner, so putting them together makes since just for times sake. Also, period and intimacy tracking can be really easy. Just add a dot on the monthly indicating what's happening. I use the year at a glance for that. (it's private, and you never show it on your page after your flip throughs. So it can easily stay private. ) Just make sure to use the same colors so you know what's what.
    As for a journal, I would just add a small notebook behind whichever H&O planner you choose so you always have it handy when you feel inspired to write.
    Finally, your catch all, I would just stick with the teacher layout, one it's working for you, and if it's not broke y fix it, and two you will be able to keep things together which it really sounds like you need right now. 😊

    • @thejoyfulsojourn
      @thejoyfulsojourn  7 месяцев назад +1

      Girl you did the MOST - thank you for this thoughtful reply!
      Thank you for the tip on the creative journal binding type - soft bound does sound pretty smart if I'm adding random stuff to it. I'm leaning towards the TN from Lauren Phelps Designs, but my hangup is paper type. I'd like a thicker paper for that.
      Oh the hourly...I understand what you're saying about using it for fitness/health as well. I've thought about using the year-at-a-glance pages as trackers, but I am really liking the idea of having a small pocket planner for that and keeping it separate. We'll see!
      For the journal, another comment was to use the day free for that, and I like that idea because it does fit behind the hemlock and oak.

    I feel you and the loving flexibility but I look back especially over 2023 and I couldn’t figure out what works for me. I was very inconsistent this year. I think in some areas I want a coiled planner I can’t change. For this I’m trying the undated Makselife monthly. I want to focus on goals and having a purpose. The last 2 years I’ve fallen off my fitness/health journey and I can feel and see the difference. Maybe and just maybe you could use the sterling ink as follows: fitness and wellness in the goals pages and monthlies; your hourly needs can be adressed in the weeklies section; and journaling in the final blank graph pages , since there are pages enough for each day of the year, right? What do you think?

    • @thejoyfulsojourn
      @thejoyfulsojourn  6 месяцев назад

      It has the base of everything I could need, BUT, it’s too small. I have the compact B6, so it doesn’t have a full year of pages at the back. It’s also just too small for my everyday writing. But I have a plan so stay tuned!

    Oh gosh, I wish I could hug you. You are me, 30 years ago. Your level of ambition, mental maturity, sophistication, is way beyond that of most mothers with a small child. You are ready, mentally, to run Mach 10. But you have a small child, and she is, of course is your priority. So you need to kind of align where you want to be with the time you have to do it. Which is why you are so busy, and stressed. So I think trying to consolidate some of these might be helpful. But for you, I would definitely keep the hemlock and oats Minimalist for your personal stuff., Your time tracking, your health, and wellness all of the things that you want to track for you I would keep in that planner. Definitely do the creative and lettering journal in a separate, hardbound journal. Mainly so that you can look back at that over the weeks and months and see where you’ve been and where you’re going, and actually make it a keepsake. I think a catch all journal could be your household appointments and schedules, put a pager two for budgeting in each month and put your social media in that because you need to work that into your daily schedules at home. Just a few thoughts - love your videos - and I’m open to adopting if you want another mother. Lol.

      Aw thank you Pat! I think you're seeing what it looks like to have a baby at 40 instead of 25! Definitely a lot of life experience before having her, and trying to make sense of what my life looks like with her in it after being "set in my ways"! You're another vote for using the Hemlock planner for my personal time tracking AND health/fitness, which I hadn't really considered. Ya'll are giving me a lot to think about! I really like the idea of one planner for household/catchall stuff, INCLUDING social media - because it's true, this job is a part of my daily life.
      And you got a good chuckle from me with the last bit, my mom is VERY fond of me and definitely unwilling to share haha!

    I am currently using a Sterling Ink B6 Common Planner Full Year. I have had many different TRP planners in my hands as well. I have used all hobonichis and the binding for them is far superior than the smaller us shops. They have it down to a science and honestly the smaller shops should take note. My SI started coming apart about 1/2 way through the year. I still use it though becuase I don't like to planner hop and I do truly love the layout. Since B6 is my fav size right now, I went with a Papertess Designs but her binding is so much better and she is in Germany. Just something to think about.

      Very much appreciate your feedback! I've never heard of Papertess Designs (will look) and I'm interested to hear that the US small shops may have issues with binding that the hobonichi planners do not! I'm learning so much from you guys!

I have lots of different things i want to track in a diy happy planner frankenplanner, but I have to be realistic and understand that I can only track so many things on a daily basis. I truly believe if happy planner offered customization I would be a much more happy planner. A customized planner would allow me to get only what I want in my planner and not have to franken plan EVERYTHING and buy so many planners just to get what I want. It sounds like that might be you also.

    • @thejoyfulsojourn

      You are in good company! I’ve heard so many people say they’d be interested in buying a custom Happy Planner! I suspect that as a business process it’d be a lot of work, and since everything is interchangeable anyways (and a lot of people LIKE assembling their own planners), it hasn’t been worth it 🤷🏻‍♀️ If they ever offered that option, for me it’d have to be every single page customized - I’m picky like that haha!!

    The Laurel Denise planner has pages you can pop in. That would give you as many pages as you need. But I don’t know if that would be too much like a HP.

    How about doing the same page in different planners, and book types, and paper types. The exact same pages on different ones. So you can figure out which layout you like the best in each planner. So you can narrow down which planner works for each type of spread you are wanting to do. Perhaps catchall categories planners. So you have volumes of categories planners, and have a set system style that works for you.. I was thinking of using the teacher layout as a budget planner for myself. Do you think that would work for one for me? Oh, and no matter the shape of your body, your soul is surrounded in beauty. Remember that. Have a blessed new year.

      I have found for myself going to a bound planner it took out the stress of making sure everything was in order month and week wise it also took out the stress of what layout will I use or need. I have a lot of stress already in my life and making this one simple choice to move to a bound planner released some of that stress and anxiety from my life. I hope and pray that you find the planner and system that will work for you.

    • @thejoyfulsojourn

      That's a great idea, sampling the pages/planners with that same week to see what feels right to me! My one challenge with that is then I'm stuck with keeping ALL of them haha! The dated planners I decide I don't want to use, I want to gift or sell. I think the teacher layout is one of the most functional of all the HP layouts and the grid of lined boxes can be turned into anything you need them to be. For me personally, I prefer a running transactions list and I don't know what that would look like in the weekly pages. So it really depends on what and how you budget!

    • @thejoyfulsojourn

      Thank you Devonna! Sounds like you're a few steps ahead of me. It's encouraging to hear a similar conclusion that the permanency of bound pages may release some of the extra thought that goes into constantly changing the pages and layouts in my planner.

    EjJoyfulplans, I totally get you! 😄 I feel much the same way as you expressed...especially with the verbal processing and It's so hard to make up my mind which planners and notebooks I want in which binding. I feel like I want my reference info (and maybe some journaling space) to be in a more permanent (smaller?) bound notebook. Ugh... I just don't know!! 😅 As far as the health & weight thing goes I've got some weight to lose also... so I feel like I'm there with ya too. I'm focusing on the health aspect and my movement and activity is important for me, but nutrition is even more important for me rn because I'm 5 yrs post breast cancer treatment..I'm also focusing on reducing inflammation and excess sugar from my diet above all, nutritionally. I just got this great book, Cynthia Thurlow's IF45 Plan Intermittent Fasting For Women, and it is so good that I'm reading through it again incase I missed anything. I also keep all the timeless notes from this book in my older Hobonichi weeks planner that I use for reference notes because the calendar is from 2023 and I started using it as a quick reference notebook when I went back to disc bound classic HP and then into a Levenger Jr midway thru 2023! (Yes I have a commitment issue when it comes to planners!😅.) I think for now I'll just make LJ ("Junior") my planner's home now. I can put 🐺 stickers on him, and make him cuter so I'll be more likely to keep most of my stuff in him...at least through the first half of 2024!
    Oh the struggle!😅

    • @thejoyfulsojourn

      Hmmmmmmm...I truly believe that one planner cannot fit everything I need. The closest would be if the minimalist Hemlock & Oak planner had 4x as many blank pages in the back which could be customized for the different areas I want to log in 2024. That, or, if I stopped decorative planning in my planner so that every inch of space was functional.

    • @thejoyfulsojourn

      All of the small bound planners I showed (including Day Free) is that Tomoe River Paper which is that thin paper. I haven’t used it yet but I hear the paper does well with watercolor and fountain pen ink. It does ghost with most pens but the writing experience on the paper is said to be nice, and there are hoards of people that love the “lived in” look as pages fill up and wrinkle. Verdict isn’t out for me on that - Im so used to valuing thick paper, it’ll be interesting to see if I can get on board with the thinner.
