He kept his head, some kicks were too deep,,he didn't check if he had chasers. He prepared methodically each one, and it was suddenly a shock to see a fist pump celebration at the winner--- he'd been so calm. The kick while tackled halfway on touch,, zinger! He sliced a 22 exit under no pressure 15 yard from halfway,, one after, he runs behind try line ,turns and thwacks the egg for distance.
He wouldn't pass if no one was there.
He's also massive.
He is a cracking young player made only one cardinal mistake threw a wide pass that wasn’t on right into touch but for his first game in a Leinster senior game he was outstanding.
I watched Sam in the under 20s and thought it will not be long until he is playing at the top…..and here he is even sooner than I though. Congrats
Delighted he got a chance to play in SA against a great team. He’ll only get better too. Exciting times.
Un ragazzino e già a questi livelli.. 👏🙌
Ah he is class, hes got that competive edge and you can see his Strength's
hes a proper 10 watching the back field and ready to stick the knife in to the opposition with a dink to the corner.
Also didn't realise he's actually got a massive boot on him,
Probally could regualry get peno's from his own half 😮
He can kick 22s from his own 22 😂 also he’s 6’5 when he develops he will probably be the biggest 10 in the game. His brothers is 6’5 and 112kg and plays at 6 for Connacht and Ireland. Crazy talent finished up with 2 try assists
It’s at altitude
@@cianohanlon6223 he had a huge boot in the u20s aswell
A Grand Slam winner this year aswell💪
Learning things yet but had the feeling i was seeing a genuine star - wish him luck
If nothing else I'm impressed at his mental. Straight into the senior team with a START, no sub appearance to acclimatize. Many players in that situation play strictly by the book, they are petrified of making mistakes etc. He made plenty but he also played very loose, looked comfortable, played some improvisational passes and expressed himself. I think there will be a grace period between himself and Johnny Sexton, probably filled by Byrne, but I have little doubt that Sam will wear number 10 for the Irish seniors in a few years.
leinster youth coaches reckon he is best young no 10 too come through the ranks in the pro era
Impressive debut for a young lad. He's a big fella too.
One of Ireland’s future talents🇮🇪☘️
Class act! Don't get the criticism, idiot's! He's 20 making his debut, he's going to make a few mistakes but he kept his composure, the potential is very exciting, JS and ROG made plenty of errors over the years and turned out to be world class, nobody knew who JS was when he was 20, if he can keep on this trajectory he will start for Ireland at the next World Cup and good luck to him
His dad must have some connections, in Ireland it's not what you know its who you know this is a prime example
And we were worried about johnny leaving
You still should be. Despite the silly hype in the commentary lad had a mixed bag. Some good kicks, some atrocious ones. Plus kick he made for the try received a fortunate bounce. He also was mixed bag in defense, missed some tackles he needs to make. Some his passing was decent but had some really poor passes in there as well. Plus his only line break came from a fortunate bounce of the ball rather than him actually beating a defender.
Lastly he made one tough kick from the tee, the rest were easy and those that weren't? He missed. Holding a parade from him because he was ok against is over the top to say the least.
@@joshsmith3598 for sure you are right, but he is so young and already so confident to do those things. He seems to play with no fear, plus he did not have the A team to make him look good. Its by far no exemplary play, but given the circumstances he did a massive job 💪 the byrnes' need to watch out 😜
@josh smith I see your over analysis on a 20 year old young lad, who played his first professional game away, in so called altitude and all the other excuses everyone throws around, like I.e travel and shite... with your fortunate bounces well jaysis you said 2 there, so me must be very lucky, or makes his own luck... also these so called easy kicks, I've see well capped senior internationals miss. You still got to make them. The occasion could have over came him, but it didn't. He ran the show, and by your bitter analysis, seems he done a great job... the future is bright with this kid.
Could you imagine been so jealous of a kid, you had to come to a video about him, on how good he played on his professional debut 😂😂😂😂😂
@@joshsmith3598 He is 20, it was his first ever pro match. He played well beyond his experience should have dictated. Good on him.
@@jasonwall5012 they are rightly worried…
Superbed performance for a debut.
Superstar on the way
Nonsense. He made just as many mistakes as he did decent/good things. Plus he is going to be facing a team as ill-disciplined as the Lions all the time. Some his passes and kicks were really poor but got overshadowed by the need to big him up. He also looked hit and miss in defense. Made some decent tackles but got beat badly on at least 3 occasions and dragged on a few others. Calling him a superstar based on a. slightly above average game v the Lions? Is silly. I don't care they rushed to give MOTM. Commentary team from the get go was going out of their way to continually praise him. It became almost parody.
@@joshsmith3598 salty saffa upset a 20 year old on his debut is better than most saffa 10s
@@joshsmith3598 so everyone else is wrong and you’re right 😂
@@mollyokonot everyone thinks he's good just you dubs
and the national selectors lol duhhhh@@RGK147
Two try assists and a man of the match on debut is crazy. Apparently he’s a gentleman aswell. I heard on the pitch he’s an Agro which is what you want from your 10
His sloppy kicking also gifted the Lions a try as did a poor missed tackle. He was at best a mixed bag. You cannot ignore the mistakes he made because you want to see only the good things he did and even those good things? One was just a basic pass anyone can make and the other a nice kick but the bounce was extremely fortunate.
On kickoffs he routinely kicked too long. On tactical kicks he was all over the place, shanked kicks, kicked too long and yes occasionally nailed it. Passing, he made some nice passes but he also tossed a long pass into touch, another pass at a players toes and a pass that should've been intercepted earlier in the game.
The need to big up him on commentary became silly and MOTM felt pre-ordained. Even when another player made the 50/22 to set up the win? The commentators immediately assumed it was Pendergast. I laughed, it had become Marcus Smith hype train land.
@@joshsmith3598 you do realise he’s 19 ye? He’s going to make mistakes but if you can’t appreciate his skill for such a young age your in the wrong sport, because he was very impressive yesterday. And slating a teenager for a missed tackle doesn’t make you the voice of reason. Media will big him up because that’s part of the gig but that’s not his fault
One for the future
That's for sure. Looking pretty handy now also 😉
Future Sexton? Although not sure about him defensively just yet, let him mature into it, maybe a year or 2 and hes will be a name to remember! Good luck to the young man.
he's not the future johnny sexton, he's the future sam prendergast

Did pretty good for a young lad away from home in his first first class game
Someone said the prendergast brothers' father was in the Ranger Wing of the Irish Army, someone else piped in "so was their mother "...
No , his Mam was not. I served with both them, both very nice people. Very down to earth and decent. But his Mam ( a lady) did not serve ARW.

Ciao Otto.
The kid only turned 20 in February... Give him time to develop and there's Ireland and Leinster's 10 for the next 10 plus years
So he'll just push crowley out will he 😂 Typical dub you are
He had a good game. Bit afraid of contact at times but it's understandable given his age and playing a south African outfit. If he puts on more bulk we have a world class 10 replacing one of the all time Irish greats
He looks composed. Not sure about his pace and flashiness though good for him to have a craick
I mean this sincerely. This guy has the best boot in the Country at 20 years of age. JS included.
I agree - kicking wise nobody comes close to him
No, he doesn't This is so silly. He shanked kicks into touch on at least two occasions. One of which gifted field position to the Lions and led to a try. He has nice potential but the need to make something he is obviously not is driven by confirmation bias. The Commentators became so desperate to praise him they tried to give him credit for the 50/22 that put Leinster in position for the win. Lad has a long way to go.
@@joshsmith3598 I am basing my comment off what I have seen all year and not this game. But yes it is early days for him.
You must have some interest in promoting this lad because he was useless in the u20 6 nations so what games exactly are you basing it off
@@tobiren1a trip to specsavers might be on the cards lad
The best young out half in world rugby, Johnny's replacement
😂 Get a grip
He even looks like Johnny at the same age...
What’s his pace like? Might be his only lack, otherwise looks like a future Ireland no 10
SO good i u20 6atios
No he wasnt
Sexton's successor hopefully
nothing incredible at all
You are clearly a soccer fan! #SMH
@@markalexwhite no, he actually watched the game instead of falling into group think and confirmation bias. I guess you missed the part were he shanked kicks, made bad passes, missed tackles and dropped a routine high ball. Yes he did some nice things but he was far from perfect. The need to create a narrative about him, bought into by the commentators reminded me of the Marcus Smith hype from a year or so ago: over the top.
@@joshsmith3598 Yeh - you're right #muppet
@@joshsmith3598 😂😂😂 that jealously pal, it'll get yea. The kid done grand, on his first professional game debut... People are allowed to like him. And be happy for him. I'm curious tho, why a hater is hunting him down, to write shite about a kid on his debut? 😂😂😂 I guess only the years will tell how good he'll be. But he has a bright future.
@jasonwall5012 yeah I'd like to know what the lad did to josh. He's gone out of his way to criticise and throw shite at him. Great debut
