This song has always gotten to me ever since I first heard it. The words are incredibly sad, but since it's written in a major key nobody expects it to be that way. It's like depression; few people can tell you have it unless they listen closely and look past what's on the surface. It's amazing how this song describes that so perfectly.

I don't see how it's depressing. She's letting go of what no longer serves her and facing her shadow. The shadow, spirituality, and facing it, become the most important thing to her. Being in touch with her inner and outside self. Becoming whole and how beautiful that feels. I've felt it as well. 🖤
This song was my anthem for getting clean after a 10 year addiction to opiates. "I will not be equal to the fool who cherishes her own misdeeds". On October 7th I'll be 6 months clean 😁👍❤

I can say I wish for the same marker, yet is that really true. I've used stubborn hard headed ignorance to warrant excuses. To justify why or when I should quit. But simple truth is I've been week, allowed tricks of the bright lights distract me and lower my defenses to a place I would never of allowed my self to be before so there is no reason to keep using. It's time for sure! Ihatemylife! Have nothing to do but fix that period.

Exactly, millions of people complain, wishing they were born in the 60's, 70's, 80's, because according to them there was better music, but they have no idea, they stagnated, they closed their ears and believe that there is nothing good anymore. I also feel so happy to have been born in this time to find and listen to this music so beautiful and perfect, music that is not only for the ears, it is for the soul
exactly what i wanted to note -- it's not too hard to write a sad song in a major key, but what's achieved here is beyond words. it's not a big "hit" among iamamiwhoami songs, but i keep returning to this song again and again because it hits home with its simple honesty. this song is just timeless

Personally I think it's amazing iamamiwhoami have continued to treat us to music videos for every single song. It's more than any other artist has done. In the space of 5 years they've released as many videos & visuals than most have in their entire career! That deserves respect. They're working with limited funds and budget, yet always manage to create something interesting & beautiful. And taken as a whole I think Blue works very well...the journey to find new lands, the shadowmen (fans) and their disappointment, the return back to the woods...
Roger Levy to be fair though they have a new team now and are obviously learning the ropes of editing/directing as they go. I read in one of the interviews that Jonna is now the director and obviously this takes up more time. It's easy to complain...but remember we're not the ones creating all of this!

I have read a lot of comments about how Blue is happiest iamamiwhoami´s album, but I think that it's actually very sad and talks so much of depression and loneliness, I don't know why, but I feel it, all the whole album there are things like drown, fill your lungs with water, waste of time, this master piece remembering "what a beautiful day to die" and the beautiful dark song "Shadowshow" it's amazing and perfect
I can't choose my favorite from this album, but this one is definitely a high contender.

Hands down my favorite song from the album. It's so ethereal and emotional it makes me tear up sometimes. If anything, this song has solidified my devotion to her as a fan and as a supporter!

I'm overwhelmed by a deep sense of melancholy and sadness, feeling this signifies the end of the project, as the next track, Shadowshow, the last track on Blue, is apparently the first track written for the iamamiwhoami project and today is the 5th birthday of the project
Its not the end of this project, just the end of this era. The circle is closing. Ready to departure from what lies in the past. As they said in a recent interview. Kin was a departure from bounty and blue the departure from Kin. And if theres a want, there will be a deprature from blue. :)
I thought the same when she disclosed that about Shadowshow. It truly made me question if the whole project was coming full circle and now to a close? The way she has been talking states that it isn't the case....however if Shadowshow is the foundation and formula for this project...one has to wonder. What is next?
When I first heard this song, I, too, was convinced that it was the end of iamamiwhoami. But then I learned that the fanbase has been convinced of their imminent end MANY times before, and Jonna's comments in interviews for the album's release make me less concerned. I think "Blue" is, among other things, them taking stock of who they once were and who they've now become. It's direct commentary on the project, the creative process, the relationship with the fans, something that hasn't been so directly and fully addressed by them before. They needed to have this heart-to-heart before they continue the journey.
Bryan Coleman Perhaps Dive is a clue as to the direction the project is turning towards. Would make sense seeing as it was released after shadowshow.
Shadowshow is such an old song though. It is the song that informs the entire project, per Joanna's own admission.
Love how you catch true beauty of Nature. Also this deep Blue feeling, which I can't resist. Despite it's in major. Also lyrics are remarkable. This composition was in the nick of time for me, because I nearly died again recently. No jokes. This will be my favourite along with "Blue" and "Chasing Kites" from your latest "Blue" album. I believe this composition is one of the greatest songs of XXI century about misery and, of course, Death. Keep going on the same spirit. Will support you anyway as I can. Stay individual and unique. I'm afraid of what's coming in the next video. We all know what shadowshow means to Jonna and iamamiwhoami as well. The mood os this song, the lyrics, this is the 'last' video only before shadowshow, it looks like 'kill' to me.. Preparing to the end. I only wish iamamiwhoami all the best, luck and long live. Loved everything about it. The details, the tones of the colours and its landscapes... I cried to this song as the album came out. The reminiscence with the dance in Sever was sth I noticed at first play... the confusion and sadness in her face... those feelings she used to have in the Kin era... like fear of sth.. especially when she says ''needles happy as in June, when this battle stained the white with bleeding'' the sorrow in her face... the tiny bits that were shown to us in the trailer video for the album. Circle is coming full...

for those who dont think this is one of the top songs of the album...... This is one of the best sounding so atmospheric and spacious. makes me want to lay in a forest at night looking up at the stars
I think this song is really beautiful, however I think some fans have mistakenly understood this song to be about them. Rather than focusing outwardly (and I may be wrong) I've always gotten the sense Jonna's music is about a powerful internal journey away from dysfunctional patterns of behavior and relationships.
The "last dancer" strikes me as a mournful ode to the bad relationship pattern she expressed love for on her album "kin". I think of the songs Play and Goodworker, where she seems to symbolically act out a relationship where she takes on her lovers identity, and thus discards her own. The shadows seem to be the intra-psychic part of her that draws her to this external type of relationship chaos. The part of her that loves the "unrequited" love, and the ensuing emotional chaos, she sings about in Shadowshow. Of course, this is just one interpretation of this highly layered and dense artistic contribution.

I really can't understand people who dislikes iamamiwhoami's videos. All Jonna's songs are masterpieces!
The iamamiwhoami project started in the woods with Bounty. A large number of fans did not like the sound of Blue so they often commented asking iam to go back to their roots. They got exactly what they wanted. The shadows, who symbolize the fans, have gotten Jonna to return to the woods, and the song that comes next is Shadowshow, which is one of iam's first songs and what the shadows are all dying to hear.
I think that's spot on. But her facial expressions indicate that she's not terribly happy about that turn of events.

Yes and a lot of references to the first video of each project! The trees and the hiding black figures reminded me of prelude. The plastic dress reminded me of b. The dance reminded me of sever. When she rowed the boat at the start it reminded me of fountain!

I do like her in the forest I have to admit. I still like the mystery of being an artist, and I have just always imaged that she is like a weird forest spirit that some body was video taping like a siren or something. Then we saw that she was a real woman in the Kin series. I almost felt like part of that too was that she was kind of living in a fantasy world in her head before. When we see her in the beginning with no make-up and her wet hair singing a haunting song she brings us back into the real world. Now with Blue we have seen all kinds of environments. We have the pretty consistent demons following her throughout. And when I say demons I mean it not in a christian way so much, but anyway. At first I thought she was a very clever witch, but now I think she might actually really be a Pleiadian! I hope that wouldn't offend her, I mean it with the most respect. But yeah, basically the queen is back in the forest. All hail the Queen. ;-)

this used to be my relaxing song till i read the lyrics and found out 'everything will be just fine' was followed by 'what a beautiful day to die'
But dying has not a negative meaning, beside the lyrics could mean anything but a bad thing, who knows?

This video could not be more perfect for this song! An icy winter dream! This song is kinda like my anthem right now. Tomorrow morning I will check into a detox facility to help me overcome this awful 10-year+ addiction to opiates. This song to me reflects the metaphorical death and rebirth I am about to go through. To whoever is reading this, if you are the praying kind I ask you kindly to keep me in your prayers, and if not then please spare a kind thought for me. I am ready to come back to life. Wow, it breaks my heart...
My first thought; Is Bounty - Kin - BLUE like a loop? I think she looks more and more like she looks in "b" with all the plastic clothes, and she is back in the forest now. The song is beautiful, it's sad but at the same time uplifting. A sense of leaving something. And the video is stunning.
The expression on her face as she sails down the river into the forest is so believable and full of amazing levels of emotion. A look of loneliness and despair I think we can all relate to; of panic, fear, shock, and basically "this isn't what I expected, this isn't how things were supposed to be!" Her assumption in ripple was that of the shadows (aka the fans) being excited and were going to be sending her tons and tons of their "bottles" aka money, and it turned out to be misplaced as once she finally goes to meet them, they don't really care that she's there anymore...they are just disappointedly walking away from her, with only one or two bottles lying around for her. I love the the theory that ripple was symbolic of the excitement and celebration around a new release, and that TLD is about the emptiness and fading interest after its released, when fans lose interest and the album gets "played out" and they move onto other things/songs. The fact that the shadows are almost menacingly sneaking up on her at the end seems to suggest that shadowshow will be about the fans demanding more, where they almost "hold hostage" jonna and her creative process until they get their demands. That or it could be symbolic for the "illegal uploaders" who stole stuff from the island without consulting her, lol. I also think the fact that fountain started with a burning box indicates shadows may try to set her on fire, which is what she did to SUTS during in concert, and is referenced via shadowshow lyrics "I am fire i am damage"...bringing so many things full circle. I will say that the mirror seems to be showing her the truth, that while on her island she is the queen and is revered, over here in the forest she is nothing special and is just "another shadow"...Let's see!!! The suspense is absolutely killing me!

Is this about her killing the Jonna in Blue series and returning back to her roots? This song is obviously about death and the last verse mentions the shadows who wants to take her home and she says she is willing to go back. We know that the shadows are the fans. So this might mean that the fans want to take her back to the old days and she is ready. This also makes sense because shadowshow comes after this song which is from bounty era.
Kin was my first experience with iamamiwhoami. I loved its heavy yet uplifting sound. It was my light in the darkness. I could not say the same about BLUE.
Sonically, it indeed reminds me of water in all its forms. Colorless, odorless and shiny. It almost did sound a bit too uniform and a bit like other pop music.
It took me a while but I grew to like its subtlety. Elusive essence is still there.

This video is amazing! I love the mists, the forest and the sunset bleeding rays from between the trees.
Some random thoughts:
Suts was burned, and the explanation of where he is now was "Heading home to where days are nights. Now I’m as good as can be." Jonna is also about to be taken home, and I'm wondering: Is Jonna going to be burned as well? Does the path to "home" go through a pyre?
More random thoughts - is the shadow from the former the same as Jonna's reflection in the mirror? Was it let loose after the mirror was broken? Is there a connection between this and the belief that the soul of a person who's broken a mirror trapped in the broken mirror?
But I guess I'm just not able to tell the forest from the trees :)
I'm thinking she (or at least someone else) is going to die in shadowshow since I read "what a beautiful day to die" in TLD lyrics. I mean... It's the video right before shadowshow... The first iam song ever made... The song played after SUTS' death... It's so weird...
I noticed that the shadows in TLD are not friendly as the shadows in ripple. They are different shadows. For the first time they look evil for me. Specially the shadows in 4:53
sorryforthewaitpx Now that you mention it - there's definitely something different about the shadows. They were more lively and going straight for Jonna before, and here they're walking away/keeping distance.

malkavio I think the mirror could answer this. In the forest, the shadows see her as one of them. Likewise, no matter where she goes, she sees herself as a shadow. At least, thats' my interpretation. It's been repeated in the Blue series quite a bit from hunting for pearls, to blue blue (at least her reflection being a shadow).
From my understanding, Shadowshow is the whole premise for the entire project. It's not just the first iam song. This is why I think a lot about the shadows and their behaviour will be revealed in that video. Also, I think the shadows throughout the entire Blue series are the same shadows, it wouldn't make sense if they were different shadows altogether.
Astraeus Volta +Astraeus Volta Well, I don't think the shadows are all the same in every video. Thin was the first video where a female shadow appeared. In ripple, 3 of the 5 shadows are female. In hunting for pearls, the 6 shadows are all male. In TLD (I'm not sure about their genders here) there is only 1 female shadow. I just can't believe they used women as shadows in ripple because of a lack of men.

Got so much love for this song... I have no words to describe, but every time I need a "wake up reality is calling" this is the song I always play. Love all the band songs in such a crazy way that it makes me in a better mood to listen all. Hoping and wishing one day being anywhere at one concert...! That would make my dreams came true! :)
In thin, Jonna refers to us as 'any given fool', so she probably doesn't want to be one of us (the scene of the broken mirror makes sense); here she says 'the fool who cherishes her own misdeed' probably talking about the person of t (there's some t references too); the water stream reminds me of ;john's start ; the chair looks a lot like the mouth of a river video's; the first video from all series' connection...
There is a lot of other things if you watch carefully.
Ps: I think shadowshow might be the shadows binding her to the chair and burning her

i think she is saying goodbye to the past visiting the bounty forest for the last time. the dance is like her last dance with someone, like a last hug or kiss, the last tango or waltz with the forest. in chasing kites she sang about letting go the past and here she puts an end to it. in the end a shadowman comes behind her, during the video their head moves says: "what about now? are you ready to leave here? to leave the physical world where our relationship started and to join the digital world where we can evolve and where we have no guarantees about the future?". i think she has a little struggle with herself and this is why she brokes the mirror, but then she stood still while the shadowman comes over her. this shadowman, possibly the one from blue blue video, will take her through the forest where she will come to a closure with her questions and doubts. i think in the possibility of a hommage to the burned fan in in concert video because there's a drawing of jonna sitted in a tree trunk playing violin in a lake at the blue island map in a place called blue lake. the map ends with crosses in soil fields, maybe the shadowmen will be burned by her, maybe she will be burned by them, maybe all will burn...it all sounds like a transcendence ritual, sublimation, change of an state to another, physical for digital, living for non-living, going back to the form of a seed to flourish again...
