To be honest Tottoland was a pretty great place to live. Everyone got along, had food and houses for their families. Tottoland was so nice to live in the people were willing to pay rent with their lifespan. Compare that to Wano where people are starving and starving people are force fed smile fruits. I guess it makes sense that Big Mom would have notion of loyalty considering her empire is built around marrying into other powerful families. That's loyalty that theoretically can't be bought.
If you think about it, Big Mom really helped Strawhats a lot in Onigashima fight. She took out 2 out of 5 Tobi Roppos thats a really valuable help especially for Nami and Usopp group.
Well she's not the one to talk about justice and humanity. After all anyone who oppose her is the bad guy in her eyes no matter if they want to stop her from killing someone innocent or trying to take over the World. But still, it's nice of her that she technically protected also Nami and Usopp just because they were with Tama. And yeah she's definitely that one kind of mother who love her children as long as they are in their "cute phase" but see them as problem when they aren't anymore. That's why she have soft spot for Tama, because she's still cute little girl.

But if we think about it her end goal is good unlike with Kaido who is just bored about this world being the strongest. I really think at the end Luffy would work together with BM to accomplish her true dream of equality not by height ofc which bm thought.
