My husband died July 3rd, 2022. I have not - have zero desire to - can't even fathom - dating or being in a relationship. I miss my husband every single day. He was not perfect - but he was my level and my balance. I can't imagine anyone stepping in to his shadow.
I will say this - I have had male friends who are married - help me with things that I can't do. Only one has "hit" on me and I shut that down immediately. It's gross - not just to the memory and respect of my late husband - but to his wife. Which makes it even worse - my husband would never do that and it hurt my heart knowing that a friend who I thought was as lucky as me to have a good man - was betrayed by him. Made me sick. Made me miss my guy even more.

I just tried to help where I could and let her talk about it as much as she wanted. My condolences, and thank you for sharing. I hope you are doing well.
My father passed away in 2015 (at 59), and my Mum is now 70 this year (they are the same age). She has not dated since, nor does she have any interest in ever dating again. She also has male friends who are married, and one of them is our neighbour! who comes down and helps her with stuff... and yes, stays for hours, days on end (he literally is a handy-man by trade). But my Mum is ALSO friends with his *wife* and sees her regularly too! I did not think the first story sounded that fishy until he started mysteriously leaving for work. A few of her male friends that are divorced have tried hitting on her, but she shuts it down. She said she is happy to be enjoying her quiet time, and honestly still misses my Dad and cannot imagine dating anyone else. I think she would agree with what you said -- not only is it disrespectful to your husband, but to the guys WIFE as well, if anything were to happen. Especially when they were all friends! 😭

As a betrayed spouse....i can firsthand tell you it takes YEARS to get over the gaslighting and manipulation you are put through by a spouse who is stepping out. It causes like literal CPTSD type trauma to your brain and takes SO much to heal from. DON'T ever cheat...just leave if you are that unhapoy. I promise you it just takes time. After going through therapy because of a crappy spouse (and childhood SA), I can tell you that my psychologist said that is usually takes a person half the length of the relationship to get over a broken heart, and/or, usually at least a few years after a trauma-filled relationship.
Give yourself grace and just surround yourself with good friends & family, and put dating on the back-burner. We have to truly learn to love ourselves again (especially if you get beaten down feel like a shell of a person), before we can even think about sharing ourselves with somebody else again. You'll know when it's time to get back out there! Just be patient with yourself. It's okay to be sad and cry, just don't stay _"there"_ too long!
      Big hugs from afar!

@blueseptember2174 yes. I'm much better than I was right after discovery and that first year afterward. The constant ruminating, nightmares, and triggers do fade as you process everything. I promise. It won't always feel as raw as it does that first year. It does take a long time to get your self confidence back...and to stop second guessing yourself all the time with everything because of the gaslighting you were put through. It's like your innocence was shattered and you will never trust anyone completely again. If you've chosen to stay...the work you have to put in is so much harder than if you walk away. So if you did stay, don't let anyone shame you for that...it takes so much more strength to stay and do the hard work than it does to just walk away on your own.

Exactly. I accidentally had 1 date with a married man, and I let the wife know the same day. It was back before social media, so I had to be smart about it, but I felt bad for her. She was a little older than him and overweight, and that was apparently his justification for cheating; he "deserved" a younger, petite woman. He wasn't even smart about hiding he was married! He brought me back to his house after a date to watch movies and drink, and I thought it was weird that he claimed his room was an empty guest room with just a twin bed in it. So, I went to the bathroom and wrote a note (I have ADHD so I carry a small note pad with me every where) folded it up, and stuck it under one of her diet pill bottles. I figured it was some where he wouldn't look, but she would.
About a week later, I got an angry call from him, calling me a bitch and asking if I was happy that I ruined his life. I don't think he liked my "she left you? Then yeah, I'm happy. At least she can do better than you now "
The creep even tried calling months later "now that he's single", lol duck no.

If this is real, which I doubt, it was guilty conscience coming out. Like I said though IF this is real, she knew he was married but “about to be divorced” is code for “fully married and wants to cheat”
So if this real the wife was immediately saying “I’m gonna pull up and go off on him” and the affair partner thought she meant come fight her or something so I can see her getting somewhat defensive being like “hey I was calling to tell you out of respect cause I wasn’t sure, but he said this” but she KEPT with the attitude.
But again, it seems super sus how calm that convo (and how loud it was considering she said he was sleeping) lol

Yeah the side chick was being hella aggy. That shit had *me* hot just watching the video so that wife deserves a fucking medal for still being respectful and reasonably calm in the face of her husbands affair AND his side chick being aggressive and weird.
I honestly think (if this is even actually real) that she was expecting the wife to blame her, because that happens so often, so she almost deluded herself into thinking that’s what was happening. She was on the defensive immediately and when you’re already defensive, hearing “Where do you live at because now I feel like I need to pop up” probably sounds a lot like “I’m showing up to fight both of y’all”.

@dhf161 I know, right! But to be fair, Grandma did say wife number 2 was the only one not pregnant, and her youngest was 3 or 4 years old. She was also the one who dumped her kids on wife number 1 and left. Wife number 1 then got the relatives to help convert outbuildings into homes for wives 3 and 4. Grandma did not give the timeline either, so these relatives could have been from the 1800s for all I know... . Husband provided, although how? They were losing their homes because of his death except wife number 1. She inherited from her grandfather because she was married, according to Grandma. 🤗💖

A woman told me about the time her Mom found out her husband was somewhere he shouldn't have been. Mom dressed them up in their nice clothes, like they wore to church. She put them in the car and drove to the other woman's house. She knocked on the door, asked to speak to her husband, and when he came to the door, gestured to the kids and said in effect, "You explain this to your children!"

But I do appreciate when people who are the affair reach out to the cheater's partner and let them know what's going on. I despise people who start relationships without ending the first one and dragging someone else through the mess without their knowledge.

They want multiple partners but also like to have someone waiting at home for them and playing house with. It is exciting for them to cheat, the forbidden fruit seems more sweet and all that crap. Also they like some aspects for their passionate love affair partners but other aspects of their spouses. Sometimes they don't just want to lose money in a divorce and pay alimony or child support or only have visitation rights with their kids. So multible reasons. Basicly lots of people are dishonest scumbags.

I was with a asshole for 3 maybe 4 months and my only 2 best friends (they are married and I was living on their couch at the time) they despised him and everyone (me including) realized I was just with this aweful human being because I was depressed and lonely and desperately wanted someone to love me because I have so much to give and had gotten out of a 5 year toxic relationship just about a year or so ago before this relationship. My besties finally convinced me he was not it... they actually brought a guy over to see if I found him cute and hook us up 😂 (I didn't know this at the time) well I found him very cute and funny etc and when he left with my friends husband for a work dinner they had I told her he was really cute and nice and she instantly texted her husband to talk me up to his friend and see what his friend thought of me 😂 I didn't know she did that but she said he was single after my comment and I dumped the jackass I was with that instant!! Was it kinda a bitch move? Yea but he swindled over 1k out of me within the last 3 or 4 months and I only worked at dairy queen at the time so basically every paycheck went to this asshole and i started to get the feeling he had a whole ass wife at the end anyways so fuck him! My husband erupts but he is the one with all the bad thoughts thinking that I’m thinking that he’s up to something ? So I get treated with no love treated like dirt and I just don’t know what to do we have things that woukd need to go 50/50 ? And I feel he had man where he wants me ? He never was like he is now we have no relationship? We don’t even sleep together we are nothing and all he dies in his 50s playing games while I sit there waiting to have time with him but he doesn’t I’m so depressed I’ve given 200% into our marriage were he gives fuck all maybe 25% because we have kids ! My youngest will turn 18 this year will this year be the year that things secretly gets to show its self and what he will do ? He is so cold and thinks that he knows what I’m thinking ? Thus has to stop he has no idea what I think and I know this man who once loved me but now only cared about himself and nothing I do matters . He knows he’s broken me and my heart so why is he still with me . I feel so alone in a marriage that isn’t a marriage . I loved him but now my love is just not there not after so much abuse . Telling me he stopped loving me 13?/14 years ago? Why make me suffer and go through mental and physical abuse for so long !! We’ve been together for 21 years ? I can’t carry on living this way and I think it’s going to hurt becoming my own person but at least I’ll be alone but not alone in a marriage! I need help and don’t know what to do . I’m scared and don’t know how to live a life alone when we got together he took control of everything and i believed it’s was because he loved me ? But it was control taking away myself confidence that’s I don’t have I’m in my 50s and I guess I’ll spend the rest of my life alone . That scares me and my boys will stay with him and not me . I made those kids love their dad . I have nothing to offer my kids . Like money the business that I pushed him to start but he had no confidence when I gave him that belief? Until we did it and he quickly became distant and locked me out of our business that I told him we could . And now we hardly talk I’d an argument breaks out he speaks to me like I’m dirt it’s awful how he speaks to me . I’m in such a hole and depression but I think that’s what gives him strength.

I’m laughing about sharing husbands bc we have a neighborhood saying that my girlfriends “have a John”(my husband’s name) bc he’s always being borrowed for mechanical repairs, snow removal, heavy lifting, etc, bc none of them are married. However, he’s also 76 & in no ‘condition’, so to speak, to cheat. They all love having his help, & he loves feeling useful in his older years.
PS - thank you, Charlotte, for reminding young daters to do background checks!! I’m 61 & have no interest in ever dating again, but when I was younger & background checks were a whole lot harder to arrange, I was still doing them on potential dates. As a gay guy that was in a straight relationship for two and a half years even though I knew I was gay but was scared and in denial- It is SO EASY to not cheat on your partner. Just man up and leave. You have to admit to yourself yes it will hurt them when you leave but you can't keep living a lie and they deserve someone who can love them the way they deserve. I feel bad for him since he is most likely going through a lot of struggling emotions, but he shouldn't have cheated point blank period. I understand why she was so pissed and hopefully he'll learn for the future to be honest and respect the people he gets involved with.

I'm still friends with my ex bf. When he came out to me, my only concern was that it took him so long to do so because he didn't want to hurt my feelings (we had been together for 6-7 years, starting from grade 7, and he had discovered his sexuality early in it). But other than that, I was very calm and supportive of him.

He could have also just been a bi guy who did like her but decided to cheat with guys because it'd look less suspicious.
(This isn't a call to hate on bi people, please don't be weird in replies. Cheaters come in all shapes and forms and I'm prefacing now it's not a 'only this person does this.' type of behaviour. I'm just saying cheaters get the thrill from doing something they shouldn't, and largely it all comes down to sneaking around thrills. Cheating is calculated as fuck, don't let anyone fool you into thinking it isn't.)

I know this is long, but it's too short to post on your Reddit page. I just had to share.
We had a neighbor whose husband passed away 2 years ago. At the time the below occurred, she was 63 so about 13 years older than my husband and 16 years older than me. By the point of the below story, we had been neighbors for about 20 years. She and her husband had known our twins since they were 18 months old. Our kids even called her Nonna and her husband was Nonno (what their grandkids called them) and we were fine with that.
Anyway, I digress. After her husband passed she would ask us for help once in a while and of course, we would help as we viewed her as an elderly widow who needed help. But then she just asked for help with things only my husband could do, and it got to the point that she started needing help at least twice a week. But again we wanted to help as we viewed her as family.
This went on for about 6 months, then suddenly, my husband started asking me to go along with him again. He said he wasn't 100% sure but he felt like she was flirting with him and now was starting to get more aggressive. I thought he was being silly but agreed to go.
The first time she did seem a little flustered that I went along. The second time she asked me, "Don't you have your chores? No need for you to tag along." But, I told her it was fine. The third time I excused myself to the bathroom. When I came back I saw she had my husband backed up against the kitchen counter and he had his hands up like he was ready to push her away.
I immediately grabbed my phone and started recording, but did not give away I was there. I then heard her tell my husband, "You know

As a polyamorous female, one thing i fear, especially with this whole strictly parallel relationship dynamic bloomimg heavily within the community, How do i know you're being ethically non-monogamous and not cheating?
Omce upon a time, it was extremely common for you to verify with the spouse, long-term partner, committed partner, etc, that they KNEW their partner was dating other people.
Nowadays, their main partner refuses any type of contact, so you can't verify they indeed do know whats happening.
I am surper f*ing cautious with dating, and my hubs is more than happy to give verification in any way that makes my other partners comfortable.
It's a shame that cheaters now use being non-monogamous as a catchphrase to convince people they're on the up and up.

I posted an entirely too long personal story in another thread about how I got involved with someone who was cheating with me on the wife he swore multiple times didn't exist. I learned my lesson. As long as people don't want to have honest conversations, cheaters gonna cheat.

The reason men are less likely to post those kinds of videos, is because for most men, if their partner cheats, then they are embarrassed to admit it. While they still blame the cheater, they also see it as a reflection on themselves. So, while a lot of women have no problem publicly shaming a cheater, most men are more inclined to hide it, as it's also hiding their own failure (or what they feel is their failure, anyway).

My step dad was an over the road truck driver for years after him and my mom first got married. Everything was basically under my mom's name as she had the best credit score of anyone I've ever known, but he was in charge of paying most of the bills. Somehow, he could not pay the mortgage. Keep in mind that he was paid very well because he was also making hazard pay due to what he was hauling, you had to wear a hazmat suit as the materials could not be inhaled. My Mom and I are pretty sure he was living a double life. I am almost certain of it because any time he and I would go out to dinner without my mom or mom was meeting us there, he'd be flirting with the waitresses and talking crap about my mom as long as she wasn't there. He was and is an absolute garbage human being that I'm glad she's gotten rid of. No one man or woman deserves to have a partner who treats them like this. The only good thing to come out of it is the fact that I learned how I did not want to be treated and found the most wonderful man I've ever known, we've been married for almost 13 years now.
