Never clicked on a video so fast. The benko is such a great opening. There's a really cool game Gligoric-Nyback where White goes for the king walk and in the middlegame black finds a brutal exchange sac and transfers his pieces from qside to kside in a flash

Love this. IMO very useful for King's Indian players to have some grasp of Benko positions as well. Gawain Jones' King's Indian repertoire has some nice ideas in it - one of which is that at certain moments, even when there's a Knight on c3 , you can still play the b5 sacrifice and White has to capture cxb, because his c3 Knight is tied down defending a pawn on e4.

#chesspunk video as always, certainly a new weapon to add to my d4 beginner repertoire for black and climb the rating ladder. Thank you Andras!

If you are sub 1800 dont touch the benko

    • @LeonKarpinski-s6h

@@mateusznowicki9358 Yeah, because it would totally ravage everyone on that level, be merciful to your club buddies! On the serious note, the higher you go on the rating range, the more frustrating it is to play the Benko, because at around 2000 people would start to either avoid it with move orders, or, more rarely, play some refutational variation which are many and tough to face. I switched to main Nimzo/Semi-slav when I felt that my good old Benko isn't such a fierce weapon anymore, but I definitely have a warm spot in my heart for it, and still play it occasionally. So I'd suggest the comment chain starter to totally try it out below 1800, the plans are clear for you and not so much for your opponent, the game is in your hands.

Ugh, finally found the opening for me. As much as I’ve tried to make my QGD robust and spicy, I just had to take up the gauntlet here as my choice to play for the win.

Why benko with 2Nf3 doesn't work? Black can just play 2...c5 3.d5 b5

Because that is not the Benko and is also not that good in my humble opinion.
