Am I mistaken or are they missing some of the parts of the songs before the key changes? Don't you need both the "before" and the "after" to illustrate the key change?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I believe that they were doing was singing a song with one key signature and then changing to another song with a different key signature. I don't think that they were demonstrating each song with a key change in it, but rather a key change between each song.
The Bibliophile Flautist Not sure if this is what you were also saying, but to the original question: Each one of these songs has a key change in it originally. They're doing a revolving key thing where they start on a song that changes from A maj to B maj. Then the next one jumps from B maj to D maj, Then D to F, and so on. They are not sticking to the original key of the song, which would be impossible (not too many songs in G# minor), but they are keeping the intervals of the key changes the same as in the original songs. This takes a decent amount of planning and an EXTREME amount of range. Let's see if I can get this out. So the first song (BS Boys) does a whole step jump from A to B (accurate to key of the original), the second song jumps 1 and 1/2 steps from B to D regardless of the songs original key. The original key of that Aladdin song is actually D, so its original key change is 1 and 1/2 steps from D to F. They just transpose everything from the original D to B, in order to line up with the previous song. They're illustrating that same jump (1 1/2 steps) that occurs in the song, just starting from a different key: B instead of D (the one they landed on previously. That's the most important thing in illustrating the key change of those songs, keeping the jumps the same intervals. So while you're not hearing the same lyrics or timing of that song exactly, it is being represented by the end of the last song. There's usually either so much going on or nothing (a break) right before or during a key change it would be hard to switch the song to the next one before the change, it would sound terrible. The rhythm, timing, cadence, all that stuff would not line up. So...the "before" is there, it's just represented by the "after" of the previous song. Pretty clever actually, a continuous cyclical modulation (technically they're not all modulations, but whatever). Their vocal ranges are impressive to say the least, and especially when they have to harmonize into a new key. Anyway, I hope that made some sort of sense. This post was twice as long, I tried to slim it down.
On a side note, while the black or mixed or whatever girl is perhaps not as conventionally attractive as the other girl, DAMN is she sexy. More important than that though is how ridiculously creative or resourceful (idk which) and talented all these people are. I rarely watch these types of videos, but I've watched this like 10 times now. More impressive than the singing for me, is how they structured this to flow so well. There are so many different types of key changes: modulations, chromatic shifts, relative major/minor (submediant/subdominant). I can definitely see this becoming mangled like trying to put a puzzle together using pieces from 5 different boxes. Then they have to work out the timing, get all the dozens of different musicians to learn each song, choreograph it and plan the camera movements and THEN pull off one seamless 4 minute take with all that nonsense going on. Not to mention they all have to keep their pitches and harmonies in sync with everyone else over a half dozen keys WHILE DANCING, Most dancing type singing performers today either lip sync live or sound like shit. The more I think about this video, the more I realize how insanely difficult this is. I know it's not the same as an incredible original song/piece of music, but hopefully people will fully appreciate this for something more than just a fun video. Damn these long posts, sorry bout that.

Wish we could hear the key changes within the songs instead of it being used so much at the point songs switch... you don't get to hear the change within the song.

Too many cooks spoiled the broth on this one. A key change isn't effective when you change every 5 seconds or so. Just my opinion.

What took it as they meant by key change is that each of the new songs has a different key from the song before and they made the transition between songs and keys as epic as possible.

Yeah, you're right. I was expecting them to illustrate the key change within each song also, but the way they did it just gave us songs in different keys from each other.
I find "epic key changes" fascinating, and that is why I have incorporated key changes into my own original songs.
