- I had the great pleasure of meeting, and playing with this wonderful Tresero at the Pueblo la Estrella in Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba. His name is Elder González Aquino and he is without a doubt the best Tres player I have ever met.
Despite the name of his group "Los Tradicionales" he is a very modern player, he tunes to D and his F# course is in unison. He told me that above all other Treseros he loves Pancho Amat the most. I got an impromptu Changui lesson before he played his set, a small portion of that is at the intro of this video.
His small group is fantastic! I was blown away by the first song Tico Tico, Elder's technique was so spot on and casual. I recorded until my battery gave out which happened half-way through Guantanamera. Elder solos on every song, his improvisations are technically stunning, syncopated and gorgeous.
I guarantee...if you are a Tresero you will love this set!
