few months ago, a group of us in mid-sized trucks came in from the south and headed up to the goblins. The trails there were single track and very windy and rolling hills and berms. Super fun even though we were going pretty slow. Then we headed west from the goblins.
Great Video with some gnarly looking photographs! I've been off-roading in San Diego and Imperial Counties for 30 years now, and we usually refer to Ocotillo Wells as Ocotillo Wells, not just Ocotillo. Maybe because I'm old. But when we talk about Ocotillo we would usually be referring to the Yuha desert area near where you found the fossil oyster shells. The Jacumba Wilderness area more or less, not the Ocotillo Wells area.
Gotta say the winds are also something to pay attention to because it can become unpleasant quickly. Great video, and I definitely enjoy when you showcase our unique SoCal options. I wish I knew the names of the canyon trails out there, but there are some technical options
It’s interesting how different the weather conditions can be just a mile or two in any direction in these vast desert places like Ocotillo Wells and Anza-Borrego. You have to be prepared for anything.
@@TrailRecon We’re living that right now in Borrego Springs. Granted, we’re in a house, but the winds have been unrelenting for 48 hours now, averaging 30 mph with gusts much higher. There is little sleep when the winds are this high, and you can’t be outside. The last big blow, our one and only mesquite tree snapped in half. Strangely, it’s totally fine in “downtown” Borrego, just a few miles down the road.
Yep, finding that sweet spot on washboard is a great feeling! Had RZR’s since 2016 and I really enjoy the desert trails! I enjoy the area around the Picacho mine. Cheers
It's great seeing all of your videos! I took my old '14 Cherokee Trailhawk out to the Diablo Drop-off a few years back. I'm hoping to take my new '18 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk to it soon! Once I get some decent rock-rails, of course. I need to get out with the SDJC again, I saw you out at one of the Halloween runs a few years back. Happy Trails!!
Looks like a blast!! Love the sweatshirt BTW. Invitation is still open to come to Southern Colorado. I’ll get you up to some alpine lakes at 12000 feet that not a lot of ppl outside of this area know about. It would be epic content for you.
Be fun to visit when it's sparsely occupied as it is in the video! Each time we've gone out there to check it out, it is crazy busy. Nice save in the Polaris Brad and a great shot too!
We usually try to go on a weekday or off season on a weekend, it can get a little busy out there. Thankfully there are still lots of places to go hide even when it is.
Brad; you have a foot in both the SBS and 4x4 Jeep-ish worlds. I'm slowly working my way into the 4x4 world. A club I'm hoping to join has been working on many really great trails, for years and years. They work with the BLM and Forest Service. They are currently working to end their relationship with one of their trails. Even though not "legal" for SBS, the trail has become a racecourse of sorts for the SBS. Apparently, the cuts in roads one wants if you're in "race mode" in an SBS aren't what work at all with 4x4s. I have no personal experience with this, but you may. A comment one person made at the meeting where this subject came up was, to effect, "There's not problem in other states that I've been to. They're not racing." My question to you: what's your take in the interactions between SBS in high speed mode (like you were in), and 4x4s?
Got to be honest ive had jeeps , sherps you name it. The one bad thing about side by side is????????eating dirt.I like to stay enclosed now. Looks like you had a blast .
Be careful with those, a friend of mine flipped one and had her hand just about torn off. Arm flew outward when vehicle rolled on her hand. Netting would have helped.
I'm not sure what my mpg is, if I was to guess, maybe 13-15. I can easily wheel around all day on a full tank which I believe is a little over 9 gallons.
Hmm. Seemed more like a racing video than a video highlighting the desert scenery. Which is fine, but it should be dubbed as look how much fun we had speeding around the desert instead of look how beautiful the desert was.
Please keep in mind that you can wreck your machine and your body with too much speed. These are very very cool machines made for the masses but they are not Baja prerunner machines. I absolutely love them the key is to be careful and don't destroy your machine and your body because these things can last a long time if you're careful with them and since they're kind of spendy why break them?

Happy Memorial weekend Brad. Thank you for your service, your loved ones, and anybody reading this.

Been going for the last 13 years and also distinguish between Ocotillo and Ocotillo Wells.
That photo of you getting sideways is awesome! Makes me smile.
That was cool!
Awesome, Brad. So cool seeing you all having a blast out there and “taking us along”. Fun content!
Thank you!
Common guys, please give this man a huge subscriber..
Check out the mud holes and the canon ball areas. A really fun area. Great two wheel photo. Great save!!
Living a good life mate. That looks like a heap of fun.
Cant wait to meet you in person out here in our back yard. Love ocotillo you pop up at the tierra del sol jeep run.
Great video Brad. Love that area. I go wheeling there many times every year. TDS every year also.
Looks like fun. Thanks. Until next time... Travel safe.

Very true, I've spent a few nights out there when the wind was 30+ mph... hard to sleep those nights.

Love this side by side videos brad :)
Thank you!
This is Ocotillo WELLS. Ocotillo is south of Ocotillo wells off the 8 freeway.
I had a 2008 Ranger XP 800 sold it and got a 2019 RZR RS1 just love the SOLO seat
Great place. It's much fun.
It really is, so many places to explore out there!

Great video! Love Ocotillo Wells. Just did those same trails a couple weeks ago.
Thanks! So many great places to explore out there!
I can taste the dust watching this video!!!
that sure looks like an awesome time
We had a blast!

Looks like fun! Prefer your "low n slow"/Jeep videos, but it's good to see you trying other things.
Be careful with those, a friend of mine flipped one and had her hand just about torn off. Arm flew outward when vehicle rolled on her hand. Netting would have helped.
Did you get rid of the unlimited recon channel? I can’t find it anywhere!
Real nice; but you should have opened it up a little 😎😎😎😎😎👍👍
What's the camera setup in the vehicle.. seems you are using some kind of stabilizer
PHONE BOOTH!!!
Awesome
Thanks!
Ocotillo is not the same as Ocotillo Wells. Ocotillo is 70 (road) miles farther south on I-8.
So Brad is getting a SBS now??? Hee Haw!!!
👍👍
thought he was going to hit that wall at 3:26
I don't have any experience with side-by-sides. What kind of mileage do they get?
Thanks for sharing your adventures.

Finally did some real off roading
Are these directional/one way trails?
Maybe would consider a defender its enclosed and has heat and ac. Just saying

LC 70 Series any day over this!
Thought maybe you were gonna cover Salton Sea...
I've been out there exploring a few times, although with the recent discovery of lithium out there I wonder how long until some areas are closed.

I am surprised California has not come up with a protected sand flea to stop SXS from riding in sand washes.
Not yet.....
👍😁Nice
Thanks 😁
Whoo, second!
You should try and take a ride with BJ Baldwin or Ken Block.. enjoyed the video thanks
That would be fun!
Whoo, first!
