Welcome!! Thank you for the generous compliments. Watch for an announcement soon about the video categories you just mentioned. We're cooking up something new! More info coming soon. ;-)
Just wanted to say you two you did an awesome job together! Turned out so beautiful, thanks for some nice ideas we all can use, you guys are very talented and looking forward to more videos, nice work!👍👍
Great build & tips for us DIY people. I need to do the deer fence around my front gardens so my food forest isn’t eaten by all the deer! Thanks for sharing!
Rene and David thank you so much! You have inspired me! Your fencing method will work very well here at my home. We have many deer here and I love your idea of putting the light around the perimeter! Yours turned out great!
I did what you just did last year in 2022 and found it was SAD success in the garden. My husband was not on board and this year we tore it all up and started from scratch with in ground beds. One thing We were happy about is having the landscape fabric down all winter killed all the weeds and we were able to start with a clean slate. My husband torn up the landscape fabric. We brought in a truck load of compost from the organic local dairy farm. We planted everything directly in the ground and we are so amazed at the success. In addition to adding drip irrigation and some terrific fertilizer. We didn't toss the metal raised beds. We just added onto the garden and moved them over to the edge of the in ground garden. I found that some things grow better in raised bed. Everything has drip irrigation and that has been a game changer for sure. Good luck next year. Like you said it's a learning curve and as gardens of 30+ yrs. we try new things and learn something new all the time. We had a great successful growing year 2023. Canned over 80 quarts of tomatoes, over 100 onions, potatoes. ect.. still picking....
I don’t think I mentioned it, but I added hardware cloth under the beds. It’s kept the moles out. They still burrow under the fabric, but they haven’t broken through… yet.
This looks fantastic!!! What a great idea with the lights!! I can hardly wait to see what your harvest will look like!! Congratulations on building a brilliant garden!!! I wish i had the room to build something like this!! Maybe on my balcony! Enjoy your day!!
The fence turned out great. Your trick for stretching the fencing/wire using the EMT conduit was brilliant! Great idea to use the taller posts to allow for the lights as well as deer barrier. Awesome job!
Hi Renee. I am so very impressed with what you did with your garden. I just watched you over on Becky’s channel and she shared that you have a channel also. I am a new subscriber. Can’t wait to see what else you share.
I just watched Becky’s video where you helped her with pressure canning “meals in a jar”. She mentioned you have a channel, so here I am. I just subscribed!!
Renee was pleasantly surprised to see you start your own channel. Have enjoyed all your great recipes at Becky's channel and can't wait to see what you have going on in the future. God Bless
Love it! Such a beautiful gaden. It gives me inspiration as a newbie. I found you through Becky. I even bought the new Ball cookbook because of her tomato soup recipie AND the video you did together on canning meals in a jar. I am recently retired and looking forward to learning these new skills. Thank you :)
Having watched Renee ( and loving her!) in Beckys videos I just had to come over and subscribe. Your garden looks amazing and I'm looking forward to more great videos.
Hi Renee and David wow the garden looks amazing you both have created a wonderful area. Gardening is a learning process for us all. My gardening journey started March 2020 and I still am learning and trying new things out. In the past month I have got some hens in my quarter acre block in suburbia, that are eating their way through my winter garden scraps currently. With our spring on September 1st planning my vegetable garden for the coming season. Keep going Renee your garden is awesome.
Nice! Thank you for the ratchet strap idea to get the fencing stretched tighter! Ive been racking my brain trying to figure out the best way to add new fencing for a new backyard chicken run area. I'll be donng it by myself, so this will be my solution
The bunnies haven’t discovered my garden yet, but I think it’s just a matter of time. I’m planning to add some chicken wire to the bottom part of the fence this spring. And I need to fill in some gaps in the gate.
Nice job its beautiful I once had a garden but life got in the way of my fun. I've been watching Becky for about a year and its fun thank you Becky for posting your wonderful mother in laws journey, I see where you hubby gets his good looks from his dad we are all so blessed .
Clever way to make fence tight. The Grow bags in the wagon very artistic and fun. Nice your sons could help. I watch your daughter -in-law's channel always enjoyed when you two would cook and bake together. You look like a great cook and baker. Would you show how to make the pasties and link your recipe. Do you both like to cook meals together? Well done on the garden, both of you 🎉🌺🥔🥬🌻🦋🐞🐝🕶️🗜️.
Hi Sharon! I’m having fun in the garden while learning a LOT! It’s nice to see new things happening in there every day. I think Becky posted the pasty recipe on her website that she just launched. I have so much fun cooking with her! I think we are going to do another video together soon. We’ve just both been so busy!
Thank you Cheryl! I love spending time out there. And we have been so enjoying eating the fresh produce we grew! Somehow it tastes better when you have to work for it, doesn’t it? Just harvested my cabbage and planted some more carrots. It would be so great if I can get another harvest of those yet this year.
@@hesaid-sheshed isn't that the truth nothing is a good a homegrown and fresh from the garden, with this years weather I think you'll have great luck with a 2nd crop harvest
Wow! So awesome to have people watching from far and wide! Thanks so much for the kind words and for joining us! We don't post super often, just when we have something of substance to share. Be sure to subscribe so the next one doesn't get past you. :-) Much love from the USA!
Oh my word wonderful garden! I love it so much. What a great job you have both done. Perfection! Hi Renee, I came over from Becky's channel I love your jar meals you did with Becky. I also looooooved the pasties, mmmm numnum! LOving your channel already from Noeli. 🌺🌺🌺
The auger did a great job breaking up that hard pan clay. I used it to fill my larger grow bags. Added in half compost with it. The squash love it and are really thriving.
Nicely done! A classic example of "mission creep", as you said. Also, as you're aware, this is Garden 1.0. There will be Garden 1.0b, c, d, then Garden 2.0, 2.1b, etc, etc. That's the nature of this kind of project. By the time the growing season is drawing to a close, you'll already have developed a list of woulda, coulda, shoulda, and can ponder on implementing bits and pieces of the lessons learned before next Spring.
GREAT garden! Love your creativity! Now that you have the infrastructure, you can keep experimenting each year to test the things you'd like to grow. Great job on the fence!
I planted waaaay too much zucchini and squash. I’ve been dehydrating it and making relish, but definitely don’t need as much as what is coming in. Glad the kids are willing to take some off my hands!
garden looks wonderful, and so healthy, i love your flower cloggs very creative,i can see you growing more and more each year, well done to you both xx
I think you both did a wonderful job and the garden is amazing! Seeing that soil when David was auging, I wondered why you didn’t plant inground? It’s so beautiful compared to my dry clay soil. Raised beds do look nice, though, and probably a lot easier to tend. Congratulations! You can’t say you’re not really a gardener anymore. 😂
Hi Cynthia! I did use the soil he pulled up to add to my grow bags, so it did not go to waste. The soil is actually really hard clay and takes a lot of water to even get the grass to grow. And, the moles are terrible! I put hardware cloth under each galvanized bed to keep them out. It’s working well so far. I didn’t do that in my raised beds by the house and they are a constant issue.
@@hesaid-sheshed Oh, how interesting! We don’t have moles in SW Idaho, but we do have an occasional gopher to deal with. Right now I have hired a trapper to trap a marmot(like a groundhog). He ate all my green bean seeds-twice! Ergh! These critters! Glad you haven’t had to deal with any more moles.
I love it!! love that you put down mulch instead of gravel..so much nicer for the land, and heat transference. Hi Elizabeth! I like the mulch too. And we found a local guy who gets it from an arborist. I didn’t care what type of mulch it was, so it was really reasonably priced. I thought about rock, but thought it might be too industrial looking with the galvanized beds. I think they add a warm, organic feel. We live in Washington. ❤
How about doing similar to Becky and growing tomatoes up the fence? Also, you could grow peaches etc. along the fencing, just a suggestion, well done looks good, and as Renee says it will be enough for the two of you
Hi Stella! I repurposed some of the fencing to trellis the tomatoes. I think it’s hard to see in the video. It’s made it so much easier to prune. Next year, I’ll likely only plant 2 in each bed. It got a bit jungle-like. And I may plant some pole beans too. My tomatoes are taking a long time to ripen.
Hi tiffanykrievans! Most places just call it "horse fence". We chose 6' tall but thats not quite deer proof which is why we went with taller posts so we could add the single wire up high. We purchased the fence at Wilco but any sort of farm and garden or home improvement store.

Hi! I am in 8a at around 900’ elevation. I will definitely keep things indoors longer next spring and let them get a little bigger and stronger before moving them outside. What did you plant this year?
