  • In a statement to ET, Anne Heche’s 20-year-old son, Homer, reflects on his mother’s death. Heche died on Friday at the age of 53; prior to her death, ET learned Homer was the one making health care decisions for his mother as she remained in a coma following a fiery car crash on Friday, Aug. 5. Meanwhile, many others are reacting to the heartbreaking news with touching tributes, including Anne’s exes, Ellen DeGeneres and James Tupper, with whom she shares a 13-year-old son, Atlas.

Death is just another path, one that we all must take.
The gray curtain of this world pulls back and all turns to silver glass, and there you see it.
White shores, and beyond a far green country under a swift sunrise.

I will mourn a class act like Olivia Newton-John, not this woman who could've killed people in her effort to escape paparazzi finding her drunk driving. As for the Ellen Degeneres fling, it served two purposes: help her failing career at a time when Ellen was a huge star and also counting on some alimony after separation but that didn't work out.

My heart goes out to Anne’s sons. I lost my Mom in my 20’s and it’s life altering. I wanted my Mom to see me grow into adulthood. To share my victories and to encourage me when I fell short. She never met my spouse, my children, and I never got a chance to truly give back to her what she gave to me. Even though I have a lovely and full life and it’s been over 20 years since she passed, I can’t overcome the loneliness without her. My hope is that both boys grow close and support one another and to give each other the grace to not be OK. I learned from Japanese culture the idea of “Endure”. That when life throws you a hard blow, that it will hurt but you can and you will endure it. I hope for them that they can and will endure this loss. God bless

I am genuinely sorry you've experienced such a great loss. I lost my mom to suicide in my 20s and, while the nature of her death certainly added to our grief, her absence from my life over the last 20 years has had the same effect on me that you described above with such verisimilitude. You absolutely nailed the endless grief that becomes a silent passenger in your life who blends into the background nearly unnoticeable until an event occurs that she would've been the first person you'd have wanted to talk to about it, and it's in those moments that you realize your grief is just as great as it was that 1st day without her. I will always miss my mom and her absence will be deeply mourned until my last breath.
I know Anne's sons have had a very rough week to say the least but my heart breaks thinking of what they still have to endure. May they somehow find peace and light in this darkness.

My husband was born the same year as Anne and I looked at him today and thought what an unimaginable loss it would be if I lost him. I am so painfully sorry that Anne’s family lost their mum like this. My kids still rely on their dad just as I’m sure Anne’s kids relied on her (and yes they are our kids no matter what the age. I lost my eldest son to a very early death due to trying to suppress his inner demons with drugs and alcohol, he eventually took his own life in 2018.
I am not saying this to take anything away from Anne’s death and her family but I want her family to know I understand their loss exponentially, and know the grief and road back to finding some peace is a rocky one with lots of pot holes on the way. I extend to all her loved ones my deepest and sincerest sympathy for their tremendous loss and want them to know I am sending my love and prayers their way. You will want to be brave and strong but don’t see it as a weakness to ask for help and support, I know without this I would have found the grieving process so much harder.
Bless you all, you are in my prayers, and rip Anne you were a strong, independent, wonderful woman and will be missed by many, many, people. With love and prayers to your family Anne, I’m sure a star shines brighter in heaven for you.

First my heart goes out to her boys. I am so sorry for your loss. These boys are so young especially her youngest boy. These boys still needed their Mom and she died in such a traumatic way.
I think what people are forgetting is that this woman was fighting demons. I’ve been sexually abused when I was 7yrs old. No I don’t use drugs or alcohol. But I definitely use food as my drug. I am hurting myself only. Trauma like that is absolutely difficult to deal with. My childhood was robbed from me. Anne was abused by her own father. My abuser was my neighbor. Its hard enough but I can’t even begin to imagine if it was my own father. The parent that’s supposed to protect you. Let’s also remember she had a disease: drugs and alcohol abuse is a disease. Yes thank God she didn’t kill or hurt anyone else but remember Anne ultimately paid the highest price for what she did she paid with her life. Have any of you that are saying terrible things not made mistakes? Have you been forgiven? Ok maybe not as bad as she did. Regardless she was a HUMAN BEING I mean she lost her life have we become SO heartless that we can’t have just a bit of compassion for someone who has died?!
Treat others as you would want to be treated. No matter what you think there are still young boys who have lost their Mom. Try to remember that. Again no matter what she did pay the ultimate with her life. I heard they still have her on life support because they are trying to see if she’s a match for organ donation. That’s some she wanted and her family agreed. At least her final act will help people. That has account for something.
I pray for her and her family and I pray for my fellow humans that when we are at our worst we can forgive each other.
    Please just be kind. 🙏🏼💔

@@iknowexactlywhoyouare8701 That's a different conversation tho. I wasn't talking about the homeowner there. Yes, it sure looks like Ann Heche was speeding in the videos they found. Was the house at the end of a street, at a T intersection maybe? Or what?? Was Ann H. just drunk & speeding? Was there some kind of emergency?? Or was she driving drunk & suicidal maybe? On meds, and/or suicidal, as well as speeding?? Or she was perhaps going too fast to turn, if she had to turn there? Brakes fail too?? Just somehow totally lost control of the vehicle, for whatever reason?? Sun got in her eyes?? I wonder if we'll ever really know what happened there, what the issue was, or what was going on in A.H.'s head at the time of the crash. I also really wonder why she didn't get out of the vehicle. Was she trapped in it somehow & couldn't get out?? Was she pinned down by anything?? She lost oxygen for too long to be anything less than brain dead -- but why?? Was she knocked unconcious, and did the fire just suck all the oyxgen then out of the vehicle?? The firefighters would likely know that, or at least if she was pinned down in the vehicle; their report would be interesting. Her medical report, re. her arrival condition at hosp., re drugs or alcohol in her system, etc etc might be very interesting to know too, & if she had a concussion etc. So.....not nice for the homeowner, at all, but at least they survived, where they could have been killed, really. And they likely at least had insurance -- I should imagine their mortgage co. would hv required such insurance to be in place. So, it could hv been much worse. I also hope there were no animals harmed, or any that failed to get out of the house!! I am sure the homeowners will sue Ann Heche's estate tho, for everything they can think of that might fly, if they can prove the reason for the crash was speeding or drinking while driving, or both, both being against the law. Hopefully they won't have any problem making a claim meanwhile with their own insce. co. Any proceeds from the estate re damages from the crash may be required by law to be paid back to the insce. co., I don't know -- in that you can't get paid twice over (or at least sue in 2 different courts at the same time) for the same claims or damages, I don't believe, & that could depend upon where you live (?). It's going to take a long time to finally be overwith tho, whatever. The homeowner needs to be saving all receipts & proof re crash-related expenses -- photos are good too.

They want so much from you and take advantage. When you finally say no more, they freak out on you for not being able to be human and have personal time or just simply can't do the impossible for them. A creative mind is in the clouds all day wanting a better world. We are so grateful for grateful people and that's why we keep doing it but it wears on you. This world is unlimited but societal laws and unwritten rules are limiting. A creative mind feels claustrophobic.

It is so good to see so many compassionate messages on here for the family. For the past several days I have seen people say such horrible things about her, and being so judgemental look, we all know she had issues, and yes, it's her own fault, this happened I'm only saying this because that's all people have been saying except, of course, they have been very rude and disrespectful about it and not thinking about her children at all, but this is their mother, and the least people can do is be supportive and not continue putting someone down who has legally been dead this whole time, but yet that's what people have been doing. People have lost their compassion and their sympathy, instead, they want to keep breaking someone down even when they're dead, and they tend to forget that this person has a family, and they think it's ok to come on 2 comments and say, absolutely horrible things because they think they have a right to, but if this happened to their family they would be highly pissed off, and they forget that. So the next time you put a comment up, think about if it happened to you, wouldn't you want people to support your kids and not say the most outlandish and disgusting things, and being so judgemental? Yes, what she did was wrong, and thankfully, no one else was hurt, but she wasn't perfect, she messed up, and unfortunately it caused her death. But that doesn't matter, what matters is supporting her kids and not saying, awful things about her, just have a heart that's all I'm asking for, and that's all the family is asking for I think these young men are incredibly strong, and I know that their mom is so proud of them. I'm so sorry, you lost your mom, I know the pain you're going through. Bless yalls heart so much, and people actually do care and overlook the people who only want to drag your mother's name in the mud. They're not worth your time or energy, I really am sorry, and I truly hope she's found some peace God bless y'all.

I can’t tell you how many years it took me to no longer have that immediate almost instinctual reaction of “I need to call my Mom”. I still long for her, I just don’t have the phone call thing happen anymore. It’s almost sadder as time passes because I have a hard time remembering her voice and her smell. Things I never thought I’d loose. Life goes on - you get jobs, fall in love, marry, divorce, have kids, etc - but for me, it’s always tinged with sadness and loneliness. Speaking as someone who has lost a parent (my dad died in May last year after suffering a heart attack), you never get over the loss, nor does it get easier. There's an empty space that can never be filled. It's been one day at a time since Dad died. I have moments when I think I see him, but when I get closer I see it's someone else.

What she did was wrong. She was speeding under the influence and consequentially crashed into another person’s home with all of their personal belongings lost in the fire. What y’all need to do is pray and keep the homeowner in your thoughts and prayers because she’s the one that’s suffering and needs the most support out of anyone else, what Anne did was careless and dumb. I don’t care how ruthless I sound.
