WTF is this title? Since when is "knowledge" related to "being smart"?
Being _smart_ is about understanding and figuring stuff out, which (depending on the question) can be done without any (special(ized)) knowledge...
... while _knowledge_ is the ability to recall and/or recite facts, which (depending on the question) can be done without having understood them.
Knowledge/smartness is what differentiates graduates and/or morons with an academic degree, who aren't worth the paper their degree is printed on, from bright minds who never visited an academic institution (maybe because the couldn't afford it).
Knowledge is (primarily) used for quizzes, whereas smartness is (primarily) used for riddles.
I don't really know about other continents, but in Europe people who cram useless information in their heads for 12 years and then forget everything after they graduate (but that doesn't matter as long they have a piece of paper that says that at some point they did that), such people are called "good students", while actually smart children that are bored from and feel unchallenged by this stupid school system end up forgotten themselves. Fuck the rule of the dumb people.
