    We were given a ten week old Rottweiler from our friends who were breeders. Otto was a gentle giant. All of our neighbors were in love with him, they’d let him in their homes and give him new toys and treats. Absolutely the best 13 years of our lives.

    This was 25+ years ago. One of my dearest friends had a Rott. His name was Rune. I visited my friends often, from the time they got him as a puppy. I could tell Rune loved me as much as I did him. It sounds corny, my heart would explode just being around him -- he was so gentle and loving, attentive. Sue (his owner) told me he'd start pacing the window 10 minutes before I showed up (I lived 60 miles away). How anyone can judge a dog by their breed is beyond me. It might be true some Rotts don't always accept everyone and may be aloof but they are loyal and love their family and whoever is included in that circule. I never saw anything aggressive about Rune ever never. Your dog and your relationship reminds me how much I used to enjoy Rune. Thank you for bringing his memory back. You're lucky to have that silly sweet boy in your life.

      @mauritaschut8466 2 года назад +6

      I've never met a Rottie that ISN'T soft and derpy and lovable.
      My parents always owned 2 breeds of dogs: Miniature long-haired Dachshunds and Rottweilers. Their rotties and every other one I've met and known have all been big oversized teddy bears.
      I know that other kinds exist, of course, but that's all about what they're trained to be like.

    • @rebel4466
      @rebel4466 2 года назад +1

      @@mauritaschut8466 I actually know both and even dogs with both sides active. It's about training and rewarding certain things. You can get a Rottweiler than will be all soft and derpy around people it trusts, but won't let anyone it doesn't know come even close to you. They're exceptional dogs. But they're just a mirror of what their owner wants them to be or shapes them into unknowingly. If you don't train them well or leave them to be on their own most of the day, results will be very different to the ones seen in the video. Not a beginner breed, a breed for someone who doesn't have large amounts of time to spend with the dog or who doesn't want to actually work with the animal.

    • @mauritaschut8466
      @mauritaschut8466 2 года назад +1

      @@rebel4466 Yes, everything you said is very true. An aggressive dog can be aggressive because of training or from a lack of training, especially combined with an anxious owner. And with my parents, they were both very good trainers with their dogs as well as very calm people. My dad would always tell me not to be scared with dogs when I was little but to be calm and confident and not encroach on their space unless you knew they wanted to be near you.
      We (my husband and I) have little dogs and have not yet had the experience of training a big dog, but we've learned a lot with the little ones and look forward to translating that to a bigger breed one day.

      Man wakes up with his faithful canine companion on the crossroads to heaven, and he finds himself talking to the gatekeeper who says dogs aren't allowed. The man challenges him on this. The gatekeeper says if the man enters, he'll sneak the dog in around the back for him.

      I witnessed a similar situation with two Yorkies, each one belonged to neighbors whose homes were next-door to each other, but were across the street from my home. In other words... I had a pretty good view of the dogs' plan & path of "attack."
      Both dogs frequently TERRORIZED children & adults alike who DARED to ride their bicycle down my street, past the dogs' homes, then down around my cul-de-sac & back. Both dogs would pursue the cyclists... chasing them... yipping at them & biting their feet as the cyclists pedaled fast to get away from the viscious, aggressive dogs.
      Both of the Yorkies actually caused a few accidents that involved little children! Yet somehow... ONLY the dogs always managed to escape each "encounter" unscathed.
      Tho every neighbor had witnessed the dogs' frequent aggressive attacks... somehow the negligent, irresponsible dog owners were always completely... oblivious. One Yorkie family finally moved away. It took the threat of a lawsuit to get the other Yorkie owner to finally restrain their dog.
      In all my 62+ years, I've never witnessed ANY large dog chase a car... let alone chase/attack someone who was just innocently riding their bicycle down the street.
      Of course, I know we're all free to like what we like. "To each his own" as they say. And I certainly have MY favorite breeds. But I will never understand why some breeds get a reputation for being aggressive SIMPLY because they're "Big Dogs," while other breeds (who are COMMONLY MUCH MORE aggressive) do not... simply because they're "small."
      I personally think it has much LESS to do with the breed of the dog specifically & much MORE to do with "Big Dog" Owners vs. Owners who are (in my experience) well, let's just say... "small." 💕🤔💕

If you were wearing any, you'd have to clamp your arms to your sides just to keep him from sticking his whole face in your armpits sniffing like mad. I am extremely ticklish so I used to scream and try to run from him with my arms clamped tightly to my sides. Let's just say I looked really ridiculous but I still loved that dog. 🤣

      "It's how you raise them, it's how you train them...drop it." And he just walks away carrying the stick. LMAO
      I've had stubborn hard headed breeds all my life...and even the well mannered easy to train ones can throw you a curve. We need to stop judging breeds they're as much "individuals" as we are.

    • @BWolf00
      @BWolf00 2 года назад

      @Jörg Bauch In general I agree, even though I don't believe each individual dog of a breed are the same, but when considering getting a strong and headstrong breed, such is the potential that for some breeds experience is/should be required. Sometime novices and the dog work out just fine, and sometimes even experienced trainers can have trouble with a dog. In general, everyone should plan for and want the best outcome for both dog and man...with as little drama as possible.
      Personally given the interaction I've had and seen with Rottweilers, in the headstrong/stubborn department, Rotties are generally easy to train...but they are very strong, an inexperienced "weak" owner may not be able manage them properly. As for my top stubborn headstrong experience...Terriers (work and more work) and Chows (get them early and/or have a lot of patience)

    • @Scott-wf9kp
      @Scott-wf9kp 2 года назад +1

      @@marissashantez6051 I COMPLETELY agree! Thanks for saying that. People should never impose on a dog, even if the dog looks friendly. It could scare the dog and initiate that defense response, like you said. If I want to pet a dog I see outside, I always speak to their human first, to check if the dog is okay being pet by strangers. If the answer is yes, then I let the dog sniff me first, and only if the dog seems comfortable do I touch them. We have to respect their boundaries. If we could teach that to people then we could lessen the fear, misunderstandings, and number of incidents.

      Dogs arent supposed to meet head on during a walk, its genetically coded into them that another dog(wolf) walking head on towards you is a threat that needs to be ran from or attacked. I have many big breeds, including GSD, Caucasian ovcharka, Albai, Aksaray Malaklisi and central asian shepherd. I also had and trained many other dogs like rottweilers, pitbulls etc. Most of my dogs are in charge of protecting a big piece of land about 50 acres, i dont walk some of them that much as they prefer free roaming their territory. Its also for the safety of them and others as they are trained to guard from wolves and most idiots will either just run up and pet your dog or let their dog approach you without asking. My Malaklisi especially is very territorial so if another dog runs up to him and me without me saying it was okay he will assert dominance over it by growling and and if it does not walk away or submit he will make it submit by force. Certain dog breeds, like the ones i mentioned, including the rottweiler are aggressive breeds. Aggressive does not mean it randomly attacks people or that its constantly aggressive. It means that the dog has potential for aggression, which is a great thing because thats what they were created for. Its up to a owner to harness and control their aggression. I have seen many famillies with rottweilers, pitbulls, gsd, maliois etc. Most of their dogs are not showing signs of aggression but what they all had in common is that the dog was always in control of the owner and not the other way around. One way you can test that is by walking on a leash and if your dog is walking ahead of you, especially infront of you it means they want to face the potential threat before you. So regardless of how nice they are, because they are great dogs if they deem something a threat they see themselves as in charge and can attack. Thats why obedience is crucial for these types of breeds. That was a paragraph but im very invested in dogs, especially big ones and it really annoys me the amout of ignorance that goes around the general public.

    💕OHHH... Reis is absolutely MAGNIFICENT!!!💕
    In my 62+ years, Ive known, loved, been dear friends with & had as family members, MANY breeds of pups; a St. Bernard, a sweet little mixed-breed "Mutt," a Boxer, an Irish Setter, a blonde Lab, a black Lab, three Golden Retrievers, a Cockapoo, an English Bulldog, numerous Staffys/Pitbulls, two Yorkies, a Corgi, two Beagles... well, you get the picture.
    In my personal experience, the Big/Bigger/BIGGEST Pups (yes, ALL Dogs are "Pups" to me) those w/BIG "clumpy" paws & BIG heads are MUCH MORE cuddly silly playful lovING loveABLE sweet gentle obedient & SMART than are the smaller Breeds.
    Ive never avoided ANY dog & have always been all too eager to meet, play with & be friends with them ALL. BUT... for VERY good, VERY valid reasons, I am a bit more "cautious" w/small, "nervous"-type breeds such as the Yorkie, Chihuahua & sadly... the ONLY dog that has ever actually bitten me (suddenly, unexpectedly & w/o provocation)... the Jack Russell Terrier.
    Frankly, if I was blessed to see a gorgeous pup like Reis walking w/his owner, I would be ECSTATIC to meet him & play w/him, be his friend & just love him! With permission... I would calmly approach Reis & his owner/handler, then proceed to play with him, cuddle him & give him lots of gentle kisses! I wouldn't be able to stop myself! Just LOOK at his gorgeous face! LOOK at his beautiful, endearing eyes. LOOK at those big "clumpy" paws!!! He is truly exquisite!!! Absolutely, IRRESISTIBLY ADORABLE!!!
    People who cross the street to avoid pups like Reis are not always woefully misinformed; they're often WILFULLY blind. Sadly, in their avoidance, they miss out on knowing so many lovely gentle innocent pups who are truly a blessing in our lives & in our world.
    Reis is without question... a beautiful, lovING, loveABLE blessing. I pray he & his dear family will have many long & happy years together, enjoying one another & sharing their pure perfect beautiful unconditional love.💕X🥰O💕X🥰O💕X🥰O💕
