John, just watched your interview from The Wally Show. So appreciated your transparency!! I really identified with your comment about if we could see people in their earlier years we’d have more grace & understanding for them. I have an unusual story of how watching Downton Abbey taught me this.... when my 86 yr. old mother-in-law moved in with us I began watching this show with her that she loves so much. Quickly I had my favorite characters, and the ones that I didn’t like or trust. Fast forward, my mother-in-law got me hooked on that show! So, one weekend I decided I wanted to see the previous seasons. I began with Session 1 and as I watched these episodes I became aware of why the characters that I didn’t like or didn’t trust behaved the way that I saw in the latter seasons. I saw the story behind their behavior! It was an aha moment for me. I felt God whispered to my heart this is what you do when you judge someone. You have no idea what their previous seasons look like! It was a huge stake in the ground moment for me and I reflect on it many times when I’m tempted to not think the best of someone because of their current behavior I’m seeing. Anyway, I thought you’d find it amusing that God used Downton Abbey to teach me this lesson! I pray all that you shared continues to wash over & refresh your heart!!!

And be consistent. Don't encourage them to give voice to their hurts, then shoot it down as not so serious. Be Jesus with skin on. He's the greatest example of empathy. 💞

Another thought...and I'm sure this isn't a new thought but what comes to my mind on stuff like this is, "Take your thoughts captive." But, it's so hard! I had to go to Celebrate Recovery to conquer my anger. Got lots of healing but yet still had some abandonment issues. Got prayed over for my adoption type issues and had more victory. But still I was so needy in some situations... then I found, "Exchange Ministry" where you ask God to you the lie you believe and then you renounce it and replace it with truth. Wow what a difference this has made. Prayers for healing for everyone in this boat. Many blessings to y'all. :)

John, this was an awesome interview/podcast. I've seen you perform in STL and you're amazing! The serious side of you is just as captivating and inspiring! I struggle with being from a big family and those childhood memories define/hurt/haunt me and well! Very cool you expressed yourself and shined a positive light on mental health! Thank you!!

This interview is amazing. It sheds light on a topic that as Christians we do not like to address. We like to pretend that we don't have any issues because to admit them would make us less than we are.Or that we are not trusting God. We believe that therapy is only for the unsaved people. But that is not true. Thanks for bringing this into the open!!

I love John, and Wally I love you, I’ve been listening to you since WayFM took over our local Christian station years ago! 😂 However, I don’t know where you all are in your walks with the Lord, but it just sucks that John felt like he had to go outside the church to get some help. Like I believe local churches need to be better equipped to help folks in situations like this. Because I’ve had similar struggles as John, I was homeschooled and had major insecurities about being left out of things and such. However, Jesus tells us to cast our cares on Him, meaning whatever mess we’ve been through, lay at the cross, like Jesus is the God of peace and He wants us to surrender to Him and Scripture tells us how to do that. It’s perplexing to hear John say that people telling him to read the Bible got him in trouble. Like bro! It’s the Word of God which has the power to renew our minds! Like come on bro! The root of all of our issues is sin and just talking about sin doesn’t help us one bit.

Sometimes a psychologist helps more...just make sure they are saved. But everyone one needs to turn to God first and than church and anything else.

God can use all sorts people in our lives - including non-Christians - to help us. It doesn't have to be a church per say. We're all human, we all have shortcomings. We shouldn't put certain groups - such as Christians - above others. It would be easier if things were black and white like that - Christians good, everyone else bad. But life's not that simple. That's why we keep our eyes on God - to give us that discernment and wisdom to help us make good choices in who/what is good for us and who/what isn't. Also, we're not all at the same point. I do believe the Bible is the only way to truly get to know God and to understand Him. But sometimes people aren't in the right mindset to be able to appreciate the Bible for what it is. God can see where they're at and help them grow so that one day, they can read the Bible and be improved by doing so. Right now John is talking about his struggles - that's great. I think discussing our personal battles with sin is a big part of repentance. It also encourages other people who are going through the same thing - and we all are, if we're honest with ourselves. To me, John seems like he is recognizing that things need to change in his life and in his outlook. That is great! The beginning of having a sincere, personal relationship with God is when we can see how low and hopeless we really are. If we don't realize we need help, we'll never go looking. Don't give up hope for John. God is in control and is doing more for John than any of us ever could.

Had no idea John had so much going on inside. Comedy masks a lot I guess. God is doing a great work in you, John. And He will also use you to minister to others. Praying for you.

Everything, every situation is about a choice, free will! When going on one of those "camps" lots of people think that they are cured. But the reality is: it's just the beginning. Imagine how hard it must be when you don't even have Jesus in your life. God our father ALWAYS makes a way! So happy for Crist and the fact that he is liquidating all that isn't from God. Keep on going sweetie!
