in this video we show you how to Repair yamaha ns690 speaker Foam Surrond without removing Dust cap
this is a new way of refoaming speakers quickly with a lots of advantages.
when installing a recone kit, the use of shims is essential to center the coil and the spider.
in the case of only changing the suspension, the spider is already well centered, so you just have to center the cone.
if you have noticed that as soon as the new suspension is installed, the coil automatically takes the right position even before doing the trips!!!
especially when using an original suspension.
I'm used to install refoam kit like that without any problems!!!!
for people who change old dust cap with new aftermarket one for midwoofer or midrange, be sure that the sound of your speaker will change badly, because in this kind of drivers the dust cap produces mid and high response!!!

You'll need just a jack to rca cable, soldering iron and apps, for more details look at this video : ruclips.net/video/tDASKOTfW-Q/видео.html

I personally would have removed the dust cap and put some kind of shim in there to keep the voice coil aligned

since the coil is centered mainly by the spider that is already fixed the method is guaranteed, I have been using this method for several years without problem. in addition if you remove the dust cap and stick it afterwards, it gives the impression that the speaker voice coil may have been changed or repaired, which is not good for selling it afterwards

I have to say I completely disagree with that method because moving the cone like that while the voice call is in motion can actually scrape the insulation off of the windings up against the pole piece.

That minimal amount of scraping will have no effect on the speakers on going performance. It is in fact much better not to remove the dustcover and let the spider do most of the work. If the spider can’t hold position of the cone then the speaker is a dud and going to fail prematurely anyway. I would say that soaking the glue with ISO for a few hours prior could save unduly handling of the cone and speed up the cleaning process.
