I was just discussing this with my 30 year old son yesterday. Back in the 1980's and before we had a bunch of chain muffler stores in the U.S. Then the manufacturers started using stainless exhaust systems, and the whole ballgame changed. The last exhaust I had worked on was our 1992 Eagle Premier, and it came from the factory with a clamp on the muffler so I only paid $49 for a muffler and clamp. Ever since I have sold the vehicles at 10+ years old having never had to repair any exhaust parts. Oh- and all those "muffler" chains either went belly up, or expanded out into full service, especially brakes and struts, etc. You did a great job and gave wonderful customer service Eric!
Looks good to me! Talk about a convenient time, my Dad got home from the store and in his driveway the front left brake hose went. He asked me to fix it and sense I watch your vids was a piece of cake. Just like you he said" might as well replace both while you are there".
As an ASE, CSI, IRS, CIA certified welder with 648 years of experience...(insert pedantic welding jargon). Looks better than the last weld I did, that's for sure. You probably saved that customer $1000 given inflation. Too bad your shop is so far from my neck of PRNY, or I'd be sending my family to you for their repairs. Eric Sir, I think you do an amazing job, especially considering how many different technologies are involved. Thank you for another great video and thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks Eric. You helped me fix my car myself. The tire shop left off a caliper bolt. So when I discovered it a hundred miles later on a Sunday. I knew what it needed a fixed it
No Eric not everyone can do it, but you do. It's easy to criticize another man's efforts, but I think you do so much better than all those critics. Keep on doing what you do, helping others as much as you can and God's blessing will be on you.

Swore up and down when I turned 55 that I would never do this again - just replace the whole thing - then I bought an extended cab ranger with one bad place on the exhaust system and it made a liar out of me! Never say never. There are no shops near this area that would have repaired this. Avoca N.Y. is a lucky town!

The fact that you see & work on so many cars tells me your experience makes the judgement call on your repair. With the cost of parts being so high the more you can salvage is the more you can save a "happy" customer. Keep doing you!!!
I owned a muffler, Brake and alignment shop for many years. On a job like that I would set it and spot the top flange and remove the muffler and do a good weld on the bench or floor then put it back in place and weld the bottom lip. I always enjoy these videos and I thank God I'm retired now.......
The only thing I "might" have done differently would be to try to weld the inside of the sleeve on the muffler side before the easier part since it's such a pain to get up over the top. Oh also as a tip: if you spray the rubber of the muffler hangar with brake parts cleaner it makes the rubber slimy so the hangar slips right out or in. When the spray dries the rubber goes right back to being a a tight firm fit. $.02
That phone call during the repair was me calling to invite myself to dinner. Mrs. O said, “Sure, I’d love some target practice.”, and I changed my mind. Love your videos, Mr. O!! Thanks for taking us along!!
You're doing GREAT. I had mechanics charge me 120$+ just to take out the MIG welder with...no gas, and "weld" the broken flange with cold tacks of unshielded wire on rusty wet full of road salt metal that they didn't bother giving even of trigger pull of wire wheel or abrasive handwaving. I fixed it with 2 stainless hose clamps and HVAC galvanized sheet metal. It outlasted the "welding" by 5 years.
Plan B: Drop the rear muffler on the ground, weld the extension end onto the end of the pipe. Reinstall the muffler, and slide the extension end over the exhaust pipe coming from the engine, and weld it. Have a Coke, and a smile! =)

Love to watch every episode, I watch you at home an at work on break. Learn a lot even know I’m a seasoned mechanic. I believe you can’t know everything. Lee up the great work.
I have been welding for 55 years. Never certified, never took a class. Once had to participate in a metal fabrication class and found I knew more than the instructor. Only those who haven't spent weeks in a crusher resurfacing the hammers with manganese will tell you how you are doing that wrong. But what do I know... The best welder for heavy work? Lincoln motor generator 500 amp DC, we called it a torpedo.
I did something similar on my 2006 Honda Civic (197k miles) a couple weeks ago. It was screaming loud above 55mph. Turns out the rear flange separated at the weld. Got a 14 inch exhaust pipe, cut it down to size, and used a clamp on each side. I had plenty of straight with overlaps so clamps worked just fine. My BIL, who is an expert welder, didn't want to weld it; he recommended the clamps. I also used some JB Weld Exhaust Sealant. Sounds quiet as the day it rolled off the assembly line! Cost me $30 from the Zone. My mechanic wanted to replace everything rear of the drivetrain for almost $600. He didn't feel comfortable welding it because of a high probability of failing during his warranty period. I totally get it. Just glad I could do it myself and keep my car on the road with breaking the bank.
I like Your Grade AAA Exhaust repair, Don't care what others think about it, It's a PERFECT rust belt repair probably last as long as the rest of the piping now, well done ERIC 🇺🇸👍.

I have learned to post anything that can be interpreted as a negative comment or critique is met with vile replies from the dedicated followers!
With that said it is a great repair! I will keep my question, comments to myself.
Love to watch every episode, I watch you at home an at work on break. Learn a lot even know I’m a seasoned mechanic. I believe you can’t know everything. Lee up the great work.
You are a good man and a super mechanic to save your customer money like that! I need you for my mechanic. 🛠
Mark of a great shop, they do the repair in a way suited to the owner and the car!
lol That welding is A+ for the working conditions and the quality of metal. I was quite surprised.
Always like that your trying to save the customer money Eric. I have a lot of respect for mechanics that are honest
Wow, thats a great fix..you really look after your customers best interest and not try to soak them for unnecessary work..
The best thing to say to the customer is " I do NOT want to sell you something that you do NOT need"...! You will NEVER run out of work!
Dr O keep on keeping on. Would be honored to be one of your customers
I like Your Grade AAA Exhaust repair, Don't care what others think about it, It's a PERFECT rust belt repair probably last as long as the rest of the piping now, well done ERIC 🇺🇸👍.
