Nice work Steve, who ever said that using Quinta decals is cheating really has no idea, nothing wrong with enhancing a kit with 3d decals, after all, it's part of this great hobby.
Steve those cockpit decals are stunning in their effect, but don't be too harsh on your skills, I'm sure many watching would be quite satisfied with half the skills and patience you have, Me for one😀!
The Typhoon and Tempest cockpit design demonstrates Hawkers admirable determination for pilot survivability. The super strong framework would limit deformation of the cockpit from linear, or forward compression in a crash. Many stories from pilots attribute their survival to this strength.Typhoon and Tempest at War by Arthur Reed and Roland Beamont Pp 68 depicts the result of a stall during a squadron landing where a Typhoon cartwheeled tearing off a wing, the tail and the engine. The pilot? Shock and a few bruises. Looking forward to this build Steve. This is a great start.
I glad I found your channel again have this kit to ,the first one ,and a bunch of other in the stash ,your a master modeler ,seen a couple of other builds from you ,just awsome . Thanks for doing this one ,can't wait for part 2 😊
I'm excited to see this one completed. The Tempest is my favorite British fighter. On the US side the P47 Jug. The cockpit build came out amazing as always. Enjoy your time off Mr Steve.
I built this kit and it was a pain in the you know were. hardest kit I have ever made. the undercarriage and the wheel wells were the worst bit. But its worth it as the finished aircraft now takes pride of place on my sideboard.
Yes it’s a test fit test fit and test fit again kit. I’ve done to U/C bays today and not one of the bulkheads fitted without trimming and filing. A bit of a change from my last two Kotare and ICM efforts.
I was thrilled to see this pop up on Friday, Steve, thanks for starting another 1/32 scale series. I have this in my stash and I couldn’t be happier with your choice of subject. As always, I really enjoy your relaxed pace and thoughtful approach to the build. Nice to hear the sheep in the background too!
Thanks for building this kit also have it in the stash ,built the pacfic coast it was ok ,i never had any problems, i think special hobby are even better ,can wait for part 2
Hi Steve, that is certainly going to turn into a really stunning build, not to mention a huge kit when finished, looking forwards to the next next update, best of British with the remainder of the build, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍
Ah yes. The first time I laid eyes on this kit, I had to pick one up. The engine looks like it’s going to be a doozy. Excellent work on the cockpit frame, I have no doubt you’ll do this kit justice.
I have this kit in my stash, along with several others from the 1/32 and 1/48 range. It does look a very impressive kit and the Quinta parts make it even better. I'll be adding them to my wish list. Looking forward to the next part.
Beautiful job as usual! As Typhoons and Tempests are among my favorite aircraft to ever fly, I am really looking forward to this series. I'll admit to being concerned when you didn't have an upload Friday, I was hoping all was well with you and yours. Then this dropped Saturday, and all was right in the world for 59.16 minutes. You will be missed while you are away, but I'll be patiently waiting for the next update!
Beautiful !. I've used the Eduard Space set on their 1/48 P39 and have to say that the overall effect is simply stunning compared to the original fling panel and accessories panels. The 3d effect can't be described, one has to see it to believe it. Great tips for using the PE parts too, I've bought myself one of those magnifier lights for the PE parts on my Airacobra and it makes this sort of work so much easier for my nearly 70 year old eyeballs.
Yes I’ve got some Kitsworld 3d decals for my Whirlwind but they’re not as good as Quinta Studios. I haven’t used Eduard space but I expec they’re pretty’s good.
Very nice work so far bro.... Mine was one of the first production run so the issues with it are quite likely sorted on the new editions.... I will be following closely 👍👍
Another nice start on a build Steve! I’m new to modeling but have picked up many tips from you. I would love to send a pic or two of what you have taught me sometime if you even would be interested? Thanks for the help!
Have you heard of Artis Opus? They make some nice brushes, particularly for dry brushing. He's got a RUclips channel. It's geared towards miniature wargaming, but the guy loves drybrushing so you might find some of it interesting.
The cockpit looks amazing! I've read that there are fit issues with this kit so will be interesting to see how you get round them. By the way, those Malosa tweezers you use look good. Where did you get them from?
The fit is - erm - challenging. The tweezers are ex surgical forceps - recycled and unfortunately not available for general sale. They’re the best tweezers I’ve ever used.
Wow! I didn’t see this one coming! Going to sit down with a cuppa and enjoy this one later today. I presume you know the shape issue of nose / radiator opening and the Barracuda replacement which although looks lovely is a huge faff to cut from block and fit to kit. With an exposed engine a lot of that goes away of course. Which scheme are you going to do? Very excited!
I’ve thought about the barracuda nose correction but as you correctly say I think the problem will be lessened by the open cowlings. I’ll see if I can reshape the spinner and do a halfway job of it.
What can I say but WOW! The 3-D decals really dress up the instrument panel and the resin plus the photoetch add to making the cockpit look fantastic. Out of curiosity have you considered the Azure FRROM 1/32 scale IAR-80A? Like the Tempest it is a limited run kit so there are some issues to address. Keep up the excellent work, looking forward to the next installment.
Hi Steve, one question on your putty choice: it looks like you are into Mr Hobby and not Tamiya, interested in understanding your comparison. Kind regards Dave Porter, London
Hi Dave I’ve never used Tamiya so I wouldn’t know how they compare. I’ve thought about Tamiya as my local shop stocks it whereas the Mr hobby is mail order for me.
I’m very interested in this build as I’ve been looking at this kit to buy for quite a while. I don’t see aftermarket cockpit details as cheating. I just see them as being lazy 🤷♂️ You want to knock out builds and videos so it’s a great option to speed things up 🫣 I want to be exceptional at hand painting these details before I revert to these options and I will once I’ve learned all there is about working with what I have 👍
Every time I go into a new build of yours is an amazing surprise. Just when I think they can't get better they do !!! Great build painting and vid.
Thanks Eddy

Cheers John I love them

Thanks John very interesting it looks strong with all that framework around the pilot 👍

Looking really good, I'm with you on the cockpit decals, try sticking the control handles to a piece of waste brass from the photo etch frame.
Nice tip Dave 👍

OK? It looks great. That is an amazing cockpit.

Cheers Doug I’m heading out with this one with a bit of foreboding- the fit isn’t the best by all accounts.
That’s what has kept me back - all the more reason I’m happy to see you deal with it first!😃
There are more parts in that cockpit than a 1/48 Tempest's full build! Great tips on assembling the belts.
Thanks Paul.
Thanks for building this kit also have it in the stash ,built the pacfic coast it was ok ,i never had any problems, i think special hobby are even better ,can wait for part 2

Fantastic work on a very intricate cockpit. Looking forward to seeing this across the finish line. I have the tempest Mk II in my stash.
Thank you
As ever Steve, a lot of patience and a very steady hand! Beautiful work.
Thanks Phil 👍

Thanks John the airframe will be a bit of a challenge I understand
Brilliant start to this new build. Very intricate work beautifully done.
Thanks David
great work on cockpit build

I wish they were Nigel. They’ve fixed some of the instruction glitches but the fit is still mediocre 😞
Another masterclass, love your videos 👍
Thank you 👍
Have a great holiday.
Thanks we will.
Great video Steve; those 3D decals look amazing.. not cheating at all!
Thanks Dave
Great build makes me want to buy the kit.
Watch till the end before buying the next episode might put you off 😂😂
Well hope it’s not to bad as I just ordered the kit and the decals
@@billray7703 Well now you can see for yourself - part 2 is a real grind 😬😬😬
@@TheModelShed looking forward to it
Le grand Charle prend forme bravo il devient superbe
Was just looking at CMK site and they have a large number of Tempest upgrades.... Engine covers gun barrels and a few other bit
Yes I’ve seen those - the gun bays looked nice but I thought I’d got enough on my plate just getting the kit together😬😂
Well played, mate🫡
👍
🤗👍👍👍👍

Sure I would - send them to themodelshedchannel@gmail.com
A lot of flash on that brittle resin..
Yes that’s right Paul. They need a lot of cleanup.
Hi Steve. Lovely detail in that cockpit build. Those tweezers youre using look great quality could you say where they were purchased from.
The tweezers are great but they’re not commercially available. They’re surgical forceps which have been recycled.
Have you heard of Artis Opus? They make some nice brushes, particularly for dry brushing. He's got a RUclips channel. It's geared towards miniature wargaming, but the guy loves drybrushing so you might find some of it interesting.

Thanks I’ll take a look at that sound like an unusual subject
It is. It has a long slender fuselage and like the French DeWoitine D.500 the cockpit is behind the trailing edge of the main wing.@@TheModelShed

just got the model was going well till found out to late that 1 tail was missing D.15
Very unusual - maybe you’ll find it somewhere
Are you going to do the starboard wing armament upgrade ?
No don’t think so - from what I’ve seen the kit has enough fit problems without packing more resin in the wings 😬😬
Steve you use CA does that not deteriorate its glueing properties over time and fall off great build once more as always thanks
No I’ve not noticed that David. They can go off if exposed to sunlight though.
Thank you Steve
But that Border Lanc on the bench......
Yes an end of the year project
@@TheModelShed Fantastic, I also have it in my stash to build and record. I'm excited to see your take on it!

Its a tough kit because of the fit issues with the airframe - I’m battling through it now for part 2
