A Simulation of Wernher Von Braun's three-stage ferry rocket for launching crew and cargo into Earth orbit that appeared in the pages of Collier's, a popular American weekly magazine, and the book Across the Space Frontier.
Wernher von Braun's "Ferry Rocket" - A visionary concept that changed the course of space travel. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the brilliant mind of Wernher von Braun conjured up a bold vision - a reusable two-stage rocket system that would ferry payloads and astronauts to and from low Earth orbit. The concept was built upon the use of massive, reusable first-stage boosters that could return to Earth and be relaunched, paired with nimble, disposable upper stages. This innovative idea was far ahead of its time, presaging the central concepts of modern space travel, including reusable rockets and spaceplane designs. Sadly, von Braun's ferry rocket was never brought to life. Nevertheless, its legacy lives on, inspiring the current generation of reusable rocket systems, such as the SpaceX Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy, that continue to reshape the landscape of space exploration.

Fun fact, those cartoonish looking fins on the first stage would’ve been actually needed to keep that thing from pointing flamey end up. Because they lacked the sufficient avionics necessary to keep itself pointed in the right direction and because of all the aero surfaces on the space plane/2nd stage.

The real version would've required the booster to be more exposed. In this CGI, they are hidden. Causing the skin frame to bare the heat, with an unrealistic grasping method of booster maneuvering. Leaving the fins/flaps to do all that role.

You know, they use to make a plastic model of the very same fantasy rocket. If you have one or find one they are literally worth their weight in gold. I saw one recently on Ebay and it auctioned off for several hundred dollars.
