Honestly I use it to block Ultimates and to back into natural cover, but using it to escape just doesn't work anyway. He needs lower cooldowns on rush and/or slam to escape.
@@__________o____________ He takes down duelists and strategists pretty well. Make sure you get the two shield melees then use the flying shield (that five second timer thing) and he's pretty good with little aim needed. Then finish them off with Energy Saw if you missed a couple shots. He's a dive Vanguard so I don't expect crazy damage. He's there to wreak havoc on the backline so they have to focus on him instead of strategists healing or Hela/Hawkeye clicking heads in the backline, BUT he's also supposed to be able to get out if he's outnumbered and because his Slam and Rush are on 12 second cooldowns they're still not ready by the time you need to get out of the fight and get healed.
He is incredibly fun, but his cooldowns need to be shorter, particulary Liberty Rush and or Soldier Slam. He engages with Soldier Slam and if an enemy is escaping you use Liberty Rush to catch up to get your Flying shields after two melees. BUT with the 12 second cooldown you really need these to escape. Good teams cope with getting dove by Cap quickly and he can't do anything when he gets overrun right now. That's why he's always the lowest Vanguard in hero tier lists. Amazing mobility and a great kit, just no escape as a dive Tank. Compare that to Venom who has an eight second super swing and Hulk Incredible Leap that takes just two seconds to charge with no cooldown and Cap's lacking.
I've been playing a lot of Cap lately. He's fun, but his damage is seriously underwhelming. You really have to use his entire kit to get a kill on a character with decent movement.
It seems like you have to play him like an assassin. Getting into the backline and focusing on the squishy enemies as opposed to being in the frontline taking damage. Conclusion... he's a coward.
Oml you can't call this a guide if you don't know how to press his dash button, there are so many instances where you can escape round a corner or close the distance in this video that you just don't take, even waiting for your off cooldown dive to kill the scarlet witch at 5:17
