      I SO second this comment Art Music!!!! I’m thinking to myself….”imagine - if someone had explained this to me the day I picked up a guitar…..”this is how guitar is different - understand and build on it now” - how different I would be musically!!!! At least I found Chris before I passed on…what a journey….

    Chris, each one of your lessons enriches my life. It is so wonderful ("SONDER-ful" even), to know that all of these "Ah-ha" moments of illumination are being shared by all the individual humans reflected in the view count.
    You are a Legend! ... and I know it sounds crazy; but in time, through your teachings and the actual information within... You might end up inspiring & influencing as many musicians as the Legend in the picture frame behind you.
    What a time to be alive for the curious guitarist!

    Chris, this lesson is so very helpful and timely for me! Thank you! I've been working on the opening riffs to the Foo Fighter's "Walk". And there is some tricky fingering going on. The first riff is easy enough, as is the second. But the third I found to be hard. I looked at every professional and amateur tab I could find, and they are all written the same way. But then, last night before I saw this video, I tried transposing the hard riff to another set of strings and, voila. Easy, peasy fingering. In face the new fingering I found is much easier, though it requires a two-fret position change. But it's in the correct octave. So this lesson, Chris, builds on that learning masterfully and once again opens the fretboard up to a whole lot of new ideas! Thank you.

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  3 года назад

      What a cool tale Robert! Re-fingering is a world of discovery. Just when you thought you had seen the whole thing, something comes around that shows you another amazing angle or perspective.

      So true J...so true. I think that might be the most impactful mechanism in the video. It really challenges your preconceptions about how the fretboard works.

    Another killer lesson Paul. It's reaffirming to know it's ok to experiment, and let our ears guide us. Thank you so much! May I ask the meaning of 21 on your Strat?

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  3 года назад +3

      Yeah, experimentation is key to finding your own voice.
      As far as the 21 goes: Brad Gillis from the old band "Night Ranger" has a very similar red strat and I wanted to differentiate mine from that iconic guitar. I've always loved the look of the 1967 Ferrari 330 P3 that placed second at Le Mans. It was number 21, my red strat feels like a proud "second" place to Gillis'...that's about it.

    Interesting, thanks for the lesson , question I have Isn't this A minor with the notes that are being played at the beginning? Thankyou

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  3 года назад +1

      Yes, that is correct, this phrase is in A minor. That initial example is right in the middle of the A minor pentatonic scale, and the phrase ends on the root (A) note.

      @@curiousguitarist Thankyou!

    • @adamk6299
      @adamk6299 Год назад

      @@curiousguitarist So why did you repeatedly say it was in A major? It’s the first scale everyone is taught. You know what an A major chord is and everyone knows that’s the A minor scale. That’s not a small mistake and these people are trying to learn from you.
      You also said you can’t play the same note in different octaves on the piano like on guitar, you absolutely can though.. 🤨
      Lastly, finger mapping and finger proofing or whatever are made up words.

    Maybe there's another level where you're able to transpose phrases to any other note combination, preserving only the rhythmic "skeleton" of the phrase. Probably more of a jazz thing than a blues thing...

    Great Great lessons! If you take requests I would love to understand what key my chord is in. Difficult to describe. I write music but just use my ear. I sometimes use just 3 strings but don't know what the chords are. I understand the basic bar chords. I always thought the lowest note was the key. Figured out I was wrong. Truly hope you and your family are doing well during this time.
