This might sound counter-intuitive but these diesel models are actually faster in eco or comfort mode, the reson being is they perform better when short shifted due to maximum power being developed at just 3800rpm and maximum torque between 1600 and 1800rpm.
On the turbo petrol models the sports mode helps it accelerate faster by holding the gears longer getting better top end power both and the end of the gear as well as being slightly higher in the rev range when changing into the next gear also.
In the 2.1L diesel it has a 5k reline however both the power and torque drop significantly after 4,500rpm. Because of this the car will accelerate faster between 3 and 4,000rpm then it will between 4 and 5000rpm.

S+ on my c250d is definetly slower on S or even Comfort.

Yep, definitely benifits from short shifting. The software engineers obviously didn't take this into consideration when changing the shift pattens for the diesel in S+ mode
But that's ok, just leave it in comfort and don't bother taking it out.

This is exactly what i noticed with my 250d too. I always manually press the + paddle at about 3200RPm when accelerating/overtaking. I bet it lowers the wear on the engine too it is a diesel ffs!

@@Northwindbreeze I literally just sold my C250d and got a Golf R line (only 150bhp) however, I must say the cornering in the golf is 100x better but then again I was in a RWD C Class estate lol.

Say if he went for half a tank and saved 30kg from a combined vehicle and driver weight of about 1,700kg (about 1.7%) do you think it'd significantly change the result? Variables like road surface and tyre condition would have a far greater impact that a bit of extra fuel.

Right? I have c220d automatic 7 speed, and it does 0-100 in 7.5 to 8.5 seconds, depends on the conditions. So 250d must be faster...

C250 petrol is really fast. It would be interesting to see that engine chipped to >250PS and 400Nm. I expect it to be low 6, or high 5. Prolly high 5.

Si eu am un 320d e90 de 177 cai, însă uneori as vrea putin mai mult confort, însă ma gandesc ca nu va mai fi la fel de înțepat ca bmw și nu aș vrea să pierd acest lucru fiindca m.am obișnuit ca atunci cand apeși pedala sa meargă....iar la mercedes chiar nu stiu daca e aceeasi senzatie, mi se pare putin strâns de gât...

@@crisaneduardhippo7744 mersi mult de raspuns..ce m.a uimit si mereu imi pun intrebarea la...c250cdi..cel de 204 cp se specifica ca are cuplu de 500nm între 1600-1800 sau între 1800 2000...mi se pare cam mică plaja asta de cuplu...fiindca la bmw scrie ca are între 1750-3000rpm, ma poti lamuri in acest aspect?

@@gmbhgmbh2793 eu ce am condus o fost un a class din 2005 si un e36 mai vechi umpic, acuma nu stiu compara exact dar a classu care e cea mai low cost clasa sa zic asa se tinea cu bmwu pana pe la 60 70 de acolo bmwu o lua, si daca vrei drift i dastea duvtepe bmw, dar merceesu trage mult mai liniar, nici nu prea simti viteza, si are cuplu, benzinarele cel putin. ce mercedes vrei?
