Belgrade, on the other hand, was savagely bombed during Operation "Punishment" when Hitler invaded in on Easter Sunday April 6, 1941 when the Serbs tore up the Tri-Partite Pact incensing Hitler. Never forget!
This is where my Opa and about 100 men (political dissidents forced into the 999th, I think, and left behind. The men that survived (opa and the 100 men) tried to cross the mountains to get back and rejoin the resistance. None of the men made it back. Either they all died in the mountains, were killed by the Germans in Sarajevo, or someone, but they vanished into thin air.
