    It was rare to see J.R. do the right thing. He was the perfect villain, but even villains have their moments.

      He could've been playing the long game here. He knew if he'd brought the boy back right away he'd lose James and Ewing Oil so he might've decided to wait until he had more of a firm grip on the company.

      @@pekkaollila8505 Good memory, I'd forgotten about that promise....... JR just finding out from James that the kid was his put a little cramp in that, and by JR-logic, it was a promise not a handshake. Violation was fair game.

      JR was a human being as much as anyone else and I think Hagman brought all kinds of shades to that great character which is what made him so compelling to watch. He could be as calculating as possible but every now and then Hagman would let out some of the humanity inside him. This is one such moment.

    I think it's interesting that when they did the Dallas revival.....there was NO mention of James, his mother Vanessa, or his son Jimmy, we see Callie ONCE at JR's wake but no mention of their kid. There might've been plot potential wasted as they should've all been JR's heirs.

    • @skyblueerik
      @skyblueerik 7 месяцев назад +4

      I don't think the show runner of the revival ever even watched the original.

    • @srichardf
      @srichardf 7 месяцев назад +3

      The revial show I think retconned James, his kid, and Callie's child because they wanted to make John Ross as JR's only child. Though in the season 3 finale (which was the final show of that series) it was revealed that JR had a daughter so maybe they changed it from Callie having a son to a daughter. But like it was stated Callie was at JR's wake and there was no mention of a child there.

    • @tammylewis2408
      @tammylewis2408 7 месяцев назад +2

      Callie's child and Bobby's son Luke (with Jenna, raised by Ray), would have teamed up to take on John Ross and Christopher, for control of Ewing Energies, which would have had potential, and echoes of Jock's brother's children in the original, claiming their share

    This was the scene that I wanted to see between Bobby and Pam - one that would have resolved her storyline (instead of that BS “fatal disease syndrome” ending). Bobby learns of Pam’s whereabouts several years after her disappearance and tracks her down, only to observe that she has a much happier life away from the Ewings and Southfork. So he decides to leave her alone, without making contact.

    Seeing scenes like this again puts into perspective just how bad that Dallas reboot from several years back was...or (at the very least) how ill-advised it was to work with a show runner who had no familiarity with or connection to the original series. Storylines such as this one were never followed up on in the reboot...which was particularly curious in this instance since Cally made a cameo in the reboot yet no mention was made of the son she had with JR and what had become of him. Nor was James mentioned or incorporated, nor was the son James had with Debra Lynn. Nor was Bobby and Jenna's son Lucas mentioned, even though Ray had a couple of cameos yet never mentioned his marriage to Jenna nor what Lucas was up to after all that time. It was really just an odd reboot overall due to a combination of the out-of-character behavior exhibited by some of the main characters, the disappearance of other characters who could have been incorporated into the series in some way and who the audience deserved to know what became of them, and the overall lack of continuity with the original series. Scenes like this one serve to starkly highlight those facts.

      Chevy "Lumina". NOT Corsica.......albeit just as plane and boring as a car could ever be (even if it appears to be the "spruced up" model (Euro Sport maybe?). Not entirely sure. Never gave a damn enough to actually remember. In its defense though, I'd actually prefer the Lumina over the Corsica......and definitely the Cavalier I might add which begs to question? Why?! Why did the Corsica exist?! GM already had a cheap beater economy car (cavalier). Why the need for cavalier, Corsica AND lumina?! (For the record, even though the Beretta and Corsica were practically the same damn car (minis 2drs), I always thought the Beretta was kind of cool......

    As many of you have seen J.R. being a cold hearted human being with a ruthless demeanour. He also had a soft side for his children, especially James, who really tested JR’s temper from time to time. He also really cared about some of the women in his life, through his twisted narcissistic mind. Sue Ellen took the brunt of JR’s physiological abuse throughout the years but at the end, they really truly loved each other. Another one was Cally, even though she was treated like trash from JR, he did have a soft spot for her, especially in this clip. He let his ego and taking possession of his child slide, just so she can be happy. Once he saw that, he pulled away.

    Ah good ol season 14....... a few good moments (this not being one), but a whole lotta garbage to sift through to get to them.
    ..... and Sasha Mitchell is awesome. Kickboxer sequels and him playing Cody on Step By Step were great, but on Dallas as the seed of JR Ewing, the man came off as out-of-place as a nun in a strip club.

    Sometimes JR Ewing acted just like Cliff Barnes. Then sometimes Cliff Barnes acted just like JR Ewing. In all essence,, neither one of them were too keen on "treating women with respect". They could both learn from Bobby Ewing.

    Good heavens, the storylines in the last few Dallas years were atrocious and beyond ridiculous. I couldn't stand that James character either.
    By this time Dallas had definitely outstayed its welcome. There were only a few of the regular cast members left and the ratings dropped further with every season. I feel they should have gone out on a high and not try to stretch it out until it was just a shadow of the great show it once was. Leave the party before it's over.
