These are not meant for long term use, they are designed to be use and throw, unless you take extreme care of it then it might run for few years.
1. Prime the pump manually without attaching the hose first, let the water run through the pump first then attach the hose.
2. After using, remove the hose and run the pump manually for few seconds to remove the water from the pump.
3. Hard water makes the pump go bad, specially when it is not in use for long time and the water inside the pump (when not removed) dries out, leaving residue behind in the pump.
4. Most important change it's oil every year, but consumer can not do it, due to lack of tools and mechanical knowledge.
5. Don't run the motor for long time, for example if ran for 5 minutes then give it rest for 10 min, to keep the motor temps low.
6. Don't suck the water from the bucket, it puts more stress on the pump, always use the water from tap.
7. Always use filter, so the pump gets clean water.
