Thank you for the breakdown of this. I pay for spotify for music/podcasts and audible for the AB, and I've been thinking of canceling my audible. With Spotify Premium rolling this out, I was excited and knew there would be a catch which you pointed out. Really makes me think about making a strategic approach to this. Cheers!
I was SO excited that Spotify was going to include audiobooks in their Premium sub... 15 hours, for me, would be a good amount. I'm not a heavy AB listener, I tend to prefer physical books, but I do like to listen at work sometimes... I would also be willing to pay a few more dollars for unlimited monthly listening, or a credit system similar to Audible, but I doubt that's going to be in our future. :( Plus, I'm Canadian so I'm going to have to wait a good long while for this to be enabled for me... sigh. :(
oooh i'm actually really excited for this feature to come internationally!! i almost never listen to audiobooks (my only real option is audible and that's kinda expensive) but i think i would enjoy one to listen to as i fall asleep once in a while, as a ✨treat ✨ (the top up is definitely a no though, i agree) also fourth wing is the next book on my tbr!! i've heard such mixed things i'm very curious to see which camp i'll end up in 🤔
yes! audiobooks are definitely a treat haha even though I follow along in the physical book sometimes, it's nice to be read to. let me know what you think about fourth wing!! I'm curious 😌
i ended up really liking it actually! i can definitely see where people are coming from about it not doing anything new (and i agree tbh) but i also flew through it and had so much fun with it!! currently considering jumping straight into the sequel even though two fantasy books in a row is a slump recipe for me 😅
When ever I'm in a different county than where I have my library cards I try to get a library card there. So now I have 4 different library cards on my Libby account and I can get audio books much quicker.
hmm if you look up any of the books I list at the end and they require payment, it may not be available yet in your region. you can probably reach out to their customer support to confirm
hmm I think Spotify has 15 hours of audiobook time included in your membership now if you're in the UK. I've heard there may be some weirdness with it if you're on a family or shared plan - I'm not 100% sure but that's my best guess!
yeah it's complicated with family plans - I think only the plan owner (the one who pays the bill) has access to the 15 free hours but I'm not 100% sure
I read another article that said we can't :( it was from the spotify help center talking about how they count by audiobook length rather than actual minutes spent listening
I had 1hr left in my book when it shut off. It was so good I would have bought the top off if I could figure how. Im on one wk free trial for premium and will not continue
The 12.99 for the top ups is outrageous. It’s literally cheaper and more efficient to pay for a second Spotify account because at least then you would get 15 hours instead of just 10. It honestly feels predatory. It’s like the knew people would not have enough hours to finish a lot of larger books to the point where you’ll get to the last hour and it cuts you off then they tell you you have to pay this exorbitant rate to just finish the book.
It's not perfect, but spotify has titles that I can't find anywhere except audible (of the things I subscribe to/library) so I'm not totally dissatisfied. I wish there were more hours though and the top ups are ridiculous.
yeah I feel like 20 hours would be nice - good for people who want to listen to long books and good for people who will listen to more than 1 book in a month. oh well 😮💨
Yea clearly who ever designed the Spotify audiobook experience doesn’t listen to audiobooks lol, it’s pretty bad. I’m doing a pretty similar thing too with my Spotify, but pretty much only saving books under 15 hours. Paying $13 for a top off is pretty insane when lots of books to purchase on Audible are like $17.

Glad it was helpful! I thought the same thing too - it would be way too easy if they had unlimited audiobook listening

I hope they start rolling out to more countries soon! I think that's much more likely than a lower fee for the additional hours 😅
I listen to audio books while driving. I only recently discovered there was a limit. Damn. Guess i’ll be hitting my library again
it would be so great without the limit 😭

Yes! Love that!
Amazing review, thank you.
How can you find books that are part of the 15 free hours? Every book I click on seems to require payment.

Does Spotify warn you when you’re done with the 15 hours or does it just charge you automatically when you pass the 15 hours?
it warns you!
Can u show a tutorial about how to do the top of
I've never done it before but here's an article from Spotify on how to do it! support.spotify.com/us/article/audiobooks-hours-topup/
Thank You so much for sharing this vid ! 🙏🏾
That’s with audiobooks I’m gonna listen to them as I go to sleep
I don’t understand how to access the premium hours? scribd is only £10 a month so I’m sticking with that for now cause Libby isn’t available in the Uk

I have family premium but I don’t see how to get access to my free 15 hrs. They make it very hard.

Have you or anyone tested if we can get more out of the listening time limit by reading double speed ?
I read another article that said we can't :( it was from the spotify help center talking about how they count by audiobook length rather than actual minutes spent listening
So bassically 1-2 books(15hrs) a month is your allowance?
exactly!
@@EmsCozyverse you cant pay extra for more minutes?
you can - I mention the details of that in the video. they're called "top ups"
If you are premium duo can the second person listen to audio books for free or only the primary?
only the plan manager right now 💔
Dang, I wanted to add someone to a duo plan specifically because they are getting into audiobooks. But nevermind I guess :(
I had 1hr left in my book when it shut off. It was so good I would have bought the top off if I could figure how. Im on one wk free trial for premium and will not continue
nooo! that's so sad!
@@EmsCozyverse it's my favorite for this year! I have it on hold from 2 libraries so I can finish.

I KNOW! It's crazy!!
I have premium and it keeps saying to buy top up how do you buy the audiobook?
hmm if it's a book outside of the premium library, you should be able to buy it as usual?
Have to buy it on computer can’t buy more top up time with cell phone -.- I just ran out of my 15 hrs and couldn’t figure it out for a min

Right!! I honestly don't use it very often and when I do, the book is under 15 hours. such a bizarre pricing model imo
