  • A tour of Angel Heights. Former nurses accommodation for the General Hospital. Later it was used as a place to house immigrants before being abandoned in 2014. We visited in May 2022.

I didn't recognise this place at all so had to stop the video and look for your written background info.
I was absolutely stunned to find out it was the old nurses home for the General.
Back in 1973 I stayed in there for some months as a young biochemistry student until I found my own accommodation. It was a wonderful building and as the only man living in the place I had an unforgettable and exhausting time there.
Three years later I started work at the newly open Freeman's Hospital but a couple of years after that I moved down south. To see the building in this state now is an utter shame, but I imagine that it just would not have been possible to convert it's many of one room accommodations into an hotel. I am however, pretty sure it could have been reorganised as council run accommodation for the homeless, domestic abuse cases or emergency temporary rooms for the social services.
    What a lost opportunity.

It's nice to hear from someone who actually spent some time in the building. It must have been a great place to stay in its day and you'd think could be again. Such a shame it was allowed to get into this state, but its not too late, its still a solid building.

Must have been impressive doors and frames. Every last one missing, but left a nice looking fireplace.

Only 2 minutes from the city centre and left to rot. What a shame.

Get your facts right, I live in the same street and it's the local entitled trash who vandalised this stunning building.
The so called forgotten class who can't seem to find a job but have plenty of time smashing such majestic buildings.

They said it wasn't good enough for them but our young student nurses lived there & didn't complain. Asylum seekers think they should have a detached house in Darrass Hall. Send them back & see how they live then.

Another beautiful day but a big disappointment !
Disappointed that this building is like this today.
Daily vandalism & such a shame it's been like this for a long time especially considering it's location.
You know & I know.... this was pure laughs.
Did i mention, 'I do my own stunts' 😂
