I have a hand-me-down dell inspiron 531, I'm making it a sleeper pc (msi gtx 1050ti, amd phenom ii x6 1090t black edition, 550w thermaltake psu, 1tb hdd, 240gb ssd, and more cooling)
Yep, running windows 10 pro 64 bit on a dell inspiron 530 with the core 2 duo 2.8GHz processor and 6GB RAM. Funny Dell lists the max ram as 4GB, probably due to limitations back then? I'm sure it would probably take 8GB RAM in the future if I want to update it further. It has a 750GB HDD at 5400RPM but want to put an SSD in it if I decide to keep it. Previously it was running windows vista home. Its no longer supported, and my mom got a new computer and this one has been sitting in the shed for about a year so thought well I'll give windows 10 a try on it and it seems to work just fine.
Keep the case fan as an exhaust fan. That will work much better overall even if there is another case fan. The reason is that having it as an intake would disrupt the airflow going thru the heatsink. The heatsink fan blows down then out the sides. If you have it blowing in it will trap some of that hot air in the fins. Much better to have it blowing out.
I love this 2005-2008 era of dell. The silver and black plastic just looked so good. The core 2 duo was also extremley powerful for it's time with the likes of Apple using it in some of their first LCD iMacs.
Currently using a 530s for Windows and a 530 for Linux, both of which I found on the roadside. It pays to walk around your neighborhood! I like the look of these, so I look forward to your videos on upgrades.
To be honest, I thought this video was underwhelming and of lower quality than your previous videos. It seemed really rushed, and there were times, were we couldn't hear you walking through the computer specs, however I can't wait to see what you have planed for the future for this PC!
I got one today. It came with an Intel Celeron (Core based), single core, running at 2.2 Ghz, one 1 GB stick if RAM, a 160 GB Seagate SATA II hard drive, Memory card reader, and a 250 watt Delta TFX PSU. So, I slapped 6GB of RAM in the unit , a Pentium Dual-core, running at 2.6 Ghz, a 500 GB Western Digital Caviar Blue SATA 6 Gbps, An Nvidia GT 730 that came with my new dell computer, of said video card, was replaced with a GTX 950, and Windows 10 as an OS.
About your airflow preference.. Chances are big that the case fan moves more air than the fan in the psu and positive air pressure can cause serious convection problems in small cases. Which will mean that it will keep heating up so I guess it is a much better idea to keep it like it is. For the rest, awesome video!
I remember that I saw some sort of Dell Vostro desktop that looked exactly like this Inspiron 530s at my friend's house. It was probably a Vostro 200 slim.
We have one of those that my parents bought back in 08 with: E5200 Pentium dual core 2.5ghz 4gb ram Same power supply Same mobo Windows vista( eh it was okay other than some programs not working) 500gb seagate hdd (still functional) Later we added a gt 610 that increased system performance
The quality of your videos is improving. Good job :) Especially with the new camera angle. It's amazing how slapping a cheap quad core Xeon will bring new life to these systems. If you check the benchmarks and compare things like the cheap Xeon E5430 from Aliexpress (Pre-modded to 775), they compare very favourably to relatively modern i3 and early i5 processors. (Going by passmark scores). Upgrading the memory to 4GB (The max it can support) by throwing in 4x 1GB sticks (Cheap as water these days...) + hard drive and a Xeon E5430 takes the total cost of the computer to something like $30 USD for a nifty little machine.
I remember a few months ago Newegg sold refurbished Samsung branded versions of this. The only difference was that they had blue motherboards and a flat front.
I have it's sister twin Vostro 200. I have XP but would love to find the restore media. But I do have a Dell labled XP pro disk, and I used Dell media center software. Decent system for a media center. However for $3 bucks would have made that buy a great buy! I picked up an HP Elitebook 8440p for $10. Best part of that is it has dedicated graphics, an i& cpu and an intel 320 series ssd. Not bad. Great find my friend.
I own a little bit different version but same setup and I want to game on it withought buying anything the problem i have with it is that I can’t update the drivers so meaning can’t play or run directx at the same time all admin accounts are out so yeah and I tried so many times to reset it and delete everything but it freezes at the screen where it asks if you want to reinstall the same windows screen. Please you could kindly give me a suggestion even tho it’s been 7 years. Happy new years
Great channel brother, nobody doing this stuff, this is the good stuff! Making older stuff work as its still very capable. I love LGA775. Just ordered a P5Q-EM with q9650 to go into a super lanboy with gtx 1060 (yes it will bottleneck) but speaking of Lan Boys - what did you do with yours? They are rare! Love Rare stuff. I can not wait to get my hands on my auper lan and fiddle about.... Video on yours? Keep this channel up, nobody else is doing this..
Unfortunately Delidded and others only note dual core Xeons for the 530S. I have to wonder if a SFF 745 MB would fit - it takes cheaper 5xxx Xeons over the 755/60/80 that take 33x3 Xeons. (Edit - never mind, I realized the MB is backwards compared to the 745-80 series) I really like the look of that case over the 7xx SFFs, though. IF I ever find one, I might have to see what else I can cram into it. I have a dozen SFF 745-780s to test today...
You would recommend an dell vostro 230 with a gpu upgrade for family pc because i have one with windows 10 64 bit and win 10 runs GREAT on that machine
Search for this on Amazon: StarTech 1-1/4-Inch Self-Adhesive Rubber Feet for PC Cases RUBBERFEET - 4 Pack - Black. I have all glass tops in my studio. I buy a lot of these.
Your welcome - I spent several hours searching Amazon and getting nothing related to what I was looking for. Until I stumbled on this product. They work great.
@AA Computers and Technology I also own an Inspiron 530s that is about to turn 10 years old and is still 4x faster than my AMD laptop I got 3 years ago, so much for an AMD next gen processor. Intel Pentium Dual Core processors and Windows 7 64 bit combination systems were ahead of their time. This week I'm thinking of putting my board, processor, and hard drive into an Optiplex 320 case this week to give it more room for a new hard drive and a descreet graphics card to help extend the life of the board and board memory further. Do you think this is a bad idea? I know this video is old but you're input on this would be helpful.
Mine crashed last night & when I went to power it up again this morning as I've always done for the last dozen yrs, nothing happened!! I can see the Amber light is still on inside the case, but I cannot say at this point whether it's a Power Supply or Motherboard issue considering the info provided above. Any idea which 1 is the actual PRoBLeM??
What are your thoughts on the Core 2 Duo? I have the Centrino Version in my laptop and I'm very happy with it. But on top of that I am still running Windows Vista 64 bit and it runs pretty decent

I just got 2 dell slim tower 780s with 2 core 2 e8400 in it for free you can get them from company's that are upgrading computer stuff also I got a 24 port 100/Mbps and a apc 1000 ups but I needed a new baterey
I've had luck in the past installing Linux on dead hard drives that had Windows on them. I don't know why, but I assume different sectors of the drive are used in some cases. Maybe it would be an idea to try to do an install of that Puppy Linux just for laughs. You couldn't hurt the hard drive any more than it is.
The secret is finding company's or friends who know people at a work place or a company who are getting rid of pcs avoid yard sale pcs there usually complete shit company stuff at least has standard work quality components
I need to find some people like that LOL. I'm sure it would be somewhat profitable to rebuild/update PC's and resell them. People where I live want stuff but they don't want to buy brand new all the time and pay the higher prices of a new item when they could get something for 1/2 the price and better quality. May try this in the near future and see how it works.
Please help !!! PLEASE I know this is an old video but I really need a response, I have a Dell Inspiron 531s and I turned it off and it won’t turn back on but I had a history of overclocking it and I upgraded the parts but idk why it won’t turn back on
Bought one at a thrift store for about 9 dollars- beautiful case-not too upgradeable and it is BTX if I remember correctly so you are limited to proprietary Dell MoBos. Bestek should called Best Drek -horrible PSU.
my guess is that you are planning to build a LGA 771 compact sleeper build. I have read somewhere that this system being X86 is limited to 4GB RAm. If you are indeed building a LGA 771 compact sleeper build, i would recommended you to start from scratch and ghetto mod a SFX power supply into a case of this dimension

@@DaneH64 Respect man! I've made a case out of cardboard for an old dc5800 (it looks cool) and put a 1050 2GB in it. It's running 6GB RAM and a Q6600.
The Core 2 Duo was such a good processor for the time! You can still run Windows 10 pretty well even on a Laptop C2D!
The C2D and C2Q were and still are very strong processors. Even for light gaming and doing some office work on.
Yep, running windows 10 pro 64 bit on a dell inspiron 530 with the core 2 duo 2.8GHz processor and 6GB RAM. Funny Dell lists the max ram as 4GB, probably due to limitations back then? Igot a core 2 duo 3 ghz 4gb ram 500 gb hard drive for FREE it came with a gtx 210
+TheSomeoneXD im using a core i7 6700k on 4.5 ghz and a 1080 with 32 gb ram with a 4k 144hz monitor
+TheSomeoneXD im using a avacado
How did you get that, a broken computer left on the street or something??
so you need to push your ego via telling everyone down here? lol
+Josh i got it from my friend who is an it guy and gave me it and said he didn't need it
You sometimes have to press Control+F1 I think, for award/pheonix bios, which unlocks alot more features in the bios
im about to buy one of those dell 2120s

I just found the full size version of this pc on the curb and am really excited to see if it will work
interested in seeing what power supply you use inside this rig. cool videos

Chris Kalkman how much did it cost
I wall mounted that pc in my workshop, because I love old computers :)
That's a pretty slick looking case
I really like the way that case looks.
I had an Inspiron 530 with a Q6600 & 4GB RAM I nabbed for $10 a while back. Good solid little system.
I just got one of these. I am looking to potentially upgrade the processor and install a small form factor graphics card.

I have a dell vostro 230 😅
Can you still survive with a 250 w power or will it distory the pic ?
to upgrade, you need a higher wattage.
Nice Video keep up the good work.
I like how you do such a superb job of cleaning up these systems!

is it ok if i change the motherboard and what is the best motherboard for cpu
What updates did you do with the power supply and is that the cause for the loud noise at the start up?
Would i be able to mod a radeon hd 7770 in here? Will the psu handle it?
I own a little bit different version but same setup and I want to game on it withought buying anything the problem i have with it is that I can’t update the drivers so meaning can’t play or run directx at the same time all admin accounts are out so yeah and I tried so many times to reset it and delete everything but it freezes at the screen where it asks if you want to reinstall the same windows screen. I have one of these i had to update the bios to get the pci working .
A mike with an Omnidirectional Polar Pattern should be in on the cards soon if you don't want to face that audio prob down the road!
Yup, just waiting for the money!
I have the same pc it does not start the light on the back lights up but the power button doesn't light up
Any tips on what to do
What socket type is the e6550?
Do you think of this computer can I do for game
thats a steal, even without the main board those parts could easy total over $80 on ebay.
Can you do one on an HP Pavilion A6600F? As in a computer with a Foxconn Mcp73m02h1 motherboard?
Whats the best way to sell old technology like a laptop
How exactly do you buy rubber feet? I have 2 laptops that are missing some
Search for this on Amazon: StarTech 1-1/4-Inch Self-Adhesive Rubber Feet for PC Cases RUBBERFEET - 4 Pack - Black. I have all glass tops in my studio. I buy a lot of these.

If you know where i can get a good power supply that will fit in my Dell Opitplex 780 tower. Im looking to make a budget gamming rig.
thank God Im buying a graphics card and I forgot to check if it would fit but I checked on eBay that it was x16 and this has a x16 port
i have the cuz to this computer the vostro 200 and my system runs so cold the proccessor was cooled down in like a 2nd these are nice computers
You should invest in a clip on mic
Hey guys I got the same pc in good condition but there's some parts missing can anyone lmk what's part are missing ?
I got a Intel Xeon E5550 3 ghz, 12 mb cashe quad core. $15 dollars. I put it in my Dell Optiplex 780.

I have a C2D server which has been running 24/7 for over a year without any hiccups. They are great processors for daily computing!
I agree totally. I haven't had nary a hiccup with mine either. Pretty good for what it is. Thanks for responding so quickly. Really enjoy the videos.
Damn ! Thats better than mine !
are you selling any of your pc's
please tell me the brand and the model of that laptop
Anyone help i have same cpu Dell 530s please let me know can I extend ram capacity and which graphics card i have to go
can you make and update video on this pc
Just a side note from my personal experiences...
I have a feeling that you are willing to swap a 771 CPU into the PC?
I have a very similar model (Vostro 220) and I learned that the G33M02 boards DO NOT suupport C2Q CPUs, consequently *maybe* making it not support Xeons. The G45M03, the other model featured in these computers, support C2Qs, consequently *maybe* supporting Xeons. I am sure on the C2Q, however I am not 100% on the Xeons.
Yup, I am planning to try a 711 Xeon!
+AA Computers and Technology Hope that works out! Personally not very optimistic about it however...
why did you cover the xp licence ?
Woah! 3 bucks for this! What a great deal!
Ok I have the same computer but it came with a generic intel pentium (2005) and came with windows Vista (stock)
Leave the coffee in the pot!
whats funny is that i am watching this on the computer your reviewing lol
wow a core 2 duo computer with 3$ / in morocco 100$ big difference
Can i upgrade a gtx with that case ?
Before anyone jumps the gun, you CANNOT put a Xeon processor into a G33M02 motherboard. (in the 530S)
You should put Windows 7 Professional on it. I got a product key from eBay for £8 and it's running really well on my HP Pavilion G6 2240sa.
where you bought this one cheap
You are going to make a home theater box... Don't you? :P Like one of those things like the raspberry pi but then BIGGER!!
that machine would be a nice htpc. all it needs is more ram and a decent graphics card and that would be a sexy htpc.
My grandma used to have one of these
What is the best Linux build for gaming and stuff. I wanna try out Linux while I save money for Windows
+fartostoopid yeah I know of buying it from kinguin and will buy it from there. But don't feel like spending money if I end up liking Ubuntu
I would go with Ubuntu also.

it has to be shipped with a quad core to support a quad core. sucks right.
Are you sure? I don't see how that would be a thing?
***** it would help if you could tell me what model number mother board you have. i have a inspiron 530 and i could not get a Q6600 working. and did a lot of reading and i figured out that it needs to be shipped with a quad core to support a quad core. does not make sense
It's the same Mobo from this video as stated in my first comment
well im not sure witch motherboard this one is in the video, 530's have a couple different boards
I have one and put it into a full size case and put in a gt 970 and 8gb ram and a ssd and its FAST
Bestec tends to blowup on me whitch sucks because i dont have any spare slim psu's.
I have this exact same system but I put a ssd and 3gb ram in mine
Knowing that it will take 8gb ram then I'll do that
If only I could buy that from you well depending on the price
I just got 2 dell slim tower 780s with 2 core 2 e8400 in it for free you can get them from company's that are upgrading computer stuff also I got a 24 port 100/Mbps and a apc 1000 ups but I needed a new baterey
