This little piece of information has people asking "Really???" I did not know it either until I worked with a lady in her garden business. We left them in every fall and just cut them down about a foot or lower. They naturally came back every year fuller and beautiful.
    Enjoy!
    ABOUT ME:
Hello, my name is Renee, owner and founder of RB The Garden Nanny. I love what I do as a landscape designer and master gardener. It’s not considered work to me. I look at it as a way of beautifying one landscape at a time. It’s pure enjoyment. There are not many women in this field who not only own their own landscape business but also have a hand in all that is involved. I bring a women’s touch to landscaping.

Great video, Renee! ❤ I love growing Cannas because they bring such gorgeous 'tropical' beauty to my property. Since I live in Zone 9B, I don't need to worry, of course, about leaving them in the ground.
You're right though - they definitely *can* overwinter outside in colder climates if they're planted in the right microclimate and mulched well. I have a friend in Zone 5B who's been successful with overwintering her Cannas in the ground for many years. 😮
I have the opposite issue. 😄 Though Cannas love it hot and sunny, they really don't appreciate my area's very intense dry heat in July and August. I have to help them out by putting them in areas where they only get sun until noon or so. 😎
Thanks for sharing your Canna experience! 😊

Thanks Kim. Yes, I love Cannas. They bring the tropics to my 6b garden as well as Elephant Ears. There's probably nothing you can't grow in 9b. A gardener's paradise. I had a person comment on this video that she is in zone 5 (not sure if a or b) but hers rot if left in the ground. It could be many variables but it's good to know your friend is making it happen.
That makes sense about them in the intense heat getting a little shade. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Such beautiful a beautiful plant. We had tons of them growing up in Jamaica. Some were smaller species too. Looking forward to Spring. 🌸

It's a beautiful perennial & since we live in a place with tropical climate, I've never had to dig them up

I never thought of putting my canna in the ground.🤔 I may plant them either in the ground or a 15 or 30 gallon pot. I want mine to get large. TFS.😊

Well, if you put them in the ground (near a foundation or fence) they will multiply and BIG they will get. Thanks for watching.

Great video Renee! I don’t grow Cannas but I definitely enjoy seeing them in other gardens! Suggestion: add the word or words Cannas or Growing Cannas in your title and that should bring more viewers to this video. That will help when folks are searching Cannas. Just a thought 🤗

Excellent video! I am not familiar with this plant, but may consider planting it in the future. I like the idea of it being perennial. Hopefully if I planted close to our home here in zone 6b, it would come back. Full watch. Be well. - Colin

Years ago a hospital had canna lilies near front of a building. They had become an invasive plant, growing and spreading out of the original area. They decided to pull all of them out and offered to employees with a warning. I took a few and later realized here in California they were taking over my perennial bed. I still have some, but pull many up each year. A family member took some to put in pots. They actually broke the pots! Now, each year the new growth is replanted... old rhizomes are discarded.

Good point. I mentioned it needed to be pulled up and put in other spots or given to friends. Thanks for watching.

Zone 5 and my cannas will not make it over winter. I never manage to dig them all up. And they rot every year. I believe in a zone 7 or warmer it would work.
