Excess is a bad design and very uncomfortable Bali is not realy a cruising ship, its a floating home and not for sailing Seawind had a old design Lagoon cruiser and Nauti fast cruiser
@@fluffi8161 What a wise and gentle comment which shows you never sailed or even come aboard one. It's the third vacation we chartered one and we are seriously considering buying one.
The Aventura 37 is indeed a popular and well-regarded cruising catamaran known for its performance and comfort. It's important to consider a variety of options when comparing yacht models, and the Aventura 37 certainly deserves recognition. Thank you for the input!
This list would be much better if it had "standard outfit" price since the base price on these cats is well below anything someone could sail. The list would also be much better if it had a 5 year old price(post charter life). That is the way many budget minded folks will buy them.
I came here to say something like this. I know for a fact that the base price for the Bali includes a catamaran that won't sail. Sails aren't even included in that price.
Great choices! Those are some fantastic options for affordable cruising catamarans. Each of them has its own unique features and advantages. Best of luck with your decision-making process, and feel free to reach out if you need more information!
When you get a chance have a look at the Broadblue 346. A small cruising cat from Broadblue Catamarans UK. 33 ft LOA, so better for dock costs, and fully spec'd is right in your cost bracket.
For that price range brand new, your best bet might be an Aventura 37, but it’s not really comparable to the capabilities and features of the options we showed in this video.
Have you looked at the work done by the owners of Indigo Lady - replacing the diesel and rigging with a solar panel deck and electric motors. I'd love to see an effort breakdown of taking a used sailing cat and converting it with a similar solar deck and electric motors - probably larger motors than was used on the Indigo Lady. Donate for a Dream
We appreciate your suggestion regarding the conversion of a sailing catamaran with a solar panel deck and electric motors. It's indeed an exciting and environmentally friendly project. While we're not aware of the specific work done on Indigo Lady, we'd love to see an effort breakdown of such a conversion project, especially on a larger scale. If you have more details or specific questions about this type of project, please feel free to share, and we'll do our best to provide insights and information. Your comments and ideas are valuable to us!
The height of the galley, salon, and cabins in cruising catamarans can vary depending on the specific model and design. Typically, the headroom in these areas is designed to provide a comfortable and spacious feel at 6.0 to 6.5 feet depending on the range. For luxury models, even higher.
@@lolni8218We enjoyed a Nautitech 40 Open for charter. Fun to sail (as you say monohull-like) and good space around the table outside to socialise. What do you prefer for a longer voyage?
While everyone has their own preferences, it's important to note that Lagoon catamarans have gained popularity for a reason. While they may have had some structural issues in the past, we've seen that they've taken steps to address and improve upon them in their newer models. Ultimately, the choice of a cruising catamaran depends on individual needs and preferences. It's always a good idea to do thorough research and consider factors such as build quality, sailing performance, and owner feedback before making a decision.
@@tigerlancer Prices have not gone up but rather stayed the same. Please be specific about what model when stating a quote. The 44-foot is still starting at $500,000 and fully upgraded is $700,000. Seems this model would have "qualified" to make this list. Thanks, guys.
I want a silent yacht but will probably never afford one - they stopped making the smaller yacht - the 60' is the smallest they make now. Donate for a Dream
I love the Excess 11's but...those aft helm stations are just too exposed for serious off shore work. I love the size and the design. It's like a modern sexy Mahe 36. But, those dang helm stations, for me that's a deal breaker. Far too exposed. All it takes is one good hit from a breaking wave in following seas...
We completely understand your perspective on the Excess 11's helm stations. It's true that when it comes to serious offshore navigation, the exposure of those helm stations could potentially be a concern. Safety is paramount, and the impact of waves in challenging conditions is definitely something we need to think about. Despite the appealing design and size, those practical considerations are crucial. Your thoughtful evaluation is appreciated! Please keep them coming.
Why do you need to keep watch from the helm stations? They are primarily used for docking and other manoeuvres. All watchkeeping will be done from a sheltered place
It seems Fountaine Pajot didn’t make it onto this list of cruising catamarans. They’re definitely a strong contender, though. Do you have a favorite model from Fountaine Pajot?
I have a FP Lipari 41. Well built ( foam core) owners version with 30 hp Volvo Pentas. It will easily make 11kt under sail on a close reach in a 15kt wind. You cannot expect these cats to sail at close wind angles like a monohull but that's what the volvos are for. Also, with the two engines very manuverable in a harbor.
You make a valid point about the relative affordability of boats, especially high-end models. The perception of affordability can vary greatly based on individual circumstances. In your view, what would make a boat more universally accessible in terms of pricing?
@@HarbourMastersTV I love catamarans, but they are a luxury that a very small percentage of the population can afford, and that's fine ...a boat like that takes a ton of work not only in skilled designed and labor, but materials, so it is right that they are expensive and also the maintenance must be not something most people can't afford. If you have worked hard and have the means to do it, I think a Cat can be an amazing 5 star hotel that can take you anywhere in the world.
Navigating through yacht prices that include or exclude taxes can indeed impact the affordability perception. When considering cruising cats, what price range do you find most reasonable or affordable, taking into account taxes and other potential additional costs?
@@HarbourMastersTV Generally, the average amount a person spends on their annual vacation. In Europe and the USA that is around 2000 per person for 14 days.

Thanks mate, you just blew my mind.
Yes, I have one, and it sails amazingly well. It's like a Tardis with so much space in the saloon and cabins.
I looked at the bali 4.2 at the Annapolis boat show and it was a really solid choice but there was some floor board popping and creaking.
Spoke with someone who's just chartered one of these- great living and lounging spaces, but poor visibility and 'sailed like a brick'
Beautiful cats. For us, we would have bought a 50 for charter but opted for our 48 FT with an incredibly nice flybridge. Noncharter I’d opt 38-42.
That’s still an excellent size for a cat. Thank you for watching!
