Having worked at SMA beside Eric myself for a few years staring in 2019 I can honestly say there is no better person to learn from! Him, his wife Vanessa and Josh are all the perfect example of what honest hardworking people are all about. I use the things he taught me almost daily In diagnostics at the shop! Thank you all for the time you took to be great people!!
Others have beaten me to it, but having a trusted assistant named McCoy just screams calling him "Bones", which naturally makes you Captain Eric of the Starship Avocaprise 😁. Thanks as always, Eric!
McCoy you are so fortunate to be able to work with a professional like Eric. When I was in high school in '69-'70 and in a work-study program, I worked at a gas station that like most back in the day had a two-bay shop but all I really did was pump gas and do oil changes. Sadly, I didn't learn a whole lot, but at age 17 I thought it was great that I was getting out of school.
I'm currently in trade school and I wish I was learning from Eric. Not saying the p[ace I'm in is bad, but I do feel kind of bad for most of the students since, a lot come in with 0 knowledge on anything or have language barrierto over come on top of learning a trade. Me I got about 6 years of DIY and learned a lot from SMA and other channels alike. Give's me a slight advantage. As @donaldmarty says, that boy is very fortunate and I hope he takes a lot from you Eric.
To the young McCoy, you may not understand at this time how fortunate you are. Listen to everything Mr. O says, ask plenty of questions. And in 10 years time, we will be watching your videos.
Let's hope not, being an auto mechanic is one of the worst career decisions you could ever make. Low pay, customers hate your guts, body broken by age 40, it's not worth it
Came across a similar situation with my daughters Escalade. Turns out a penny had dropped in the accessory outlet in the center console and popped the fuse. McCoy is a lucky guy having you as a mentor Mr O 👍👍
I've seen multiple times over the years where that has happened. Or the port has a popped fuse and they had just cleaned out the car before they brought it to the dhop because that port and obd plug didn't work.
My heart is in my mouth when I see you pull one of those fuse boxes apart. If I did that I would end up with all manner of faults on reassembly, where loads of other wires have broken off.
Been there myself and it wasn’t fun everything was green and pusy nasty, had to buy real small crimp terminals and start replacing each wire one at a time so that they didn’t get crossed. It was on a 91 ford f150 the electronic control module just terrible. But it was still working good when I sold it
Yeah, if it was me, I wouldn't have gone anywhere near that fuse box. I would have just run a new wire to the data connector and tied it in as Eric did. He got lucky on this one but I've seen too many of those fuse boxes just fall apart when you try to remove them.
me as well. I own a 2013 GMC sierra (basically the same as this one.) After these videos I want to go out and inspect my fuse box.... but I am afraid... I need an Eric nearby.
You’re a blast. Your knowledge ,experience and common sense is priceless. You are to be commended for teaching Mr. MacCoy honesty, integrity and a great service to the community around. Other shops would take advantage and soak some pour sole on an old vehicle that will be soon a fixture at Wilberts. Such a simple inexpensive repair. I still say ,Your The Best and the Best U Tube Chanel. Aaron from Canada
It doesn't matter what you're working on, I have to watch it anyway. Love all your content! And again, I say THANKS for sharing your knowledge with us.
Nice fix. Really enjoy the pace and tone of your fixes. Makes it easy to follow and learn a thing or two. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
McCoy just learned problem solving skills and logical repair techniques that have wide application for electrical system corrosion issues common in your neck of the woods. Good man, Mr. O.
Eric, I just want to Thank You! You gave me another way to mess with people by cutting off the load side of the fuse! This is gonna be a FAV. of mine real fast! It's gonna be so FUN!!!!
Thank you Obwan for taking a young Padawon under your tutelage, hope he absorbs all that you teach and show him, I am always happy to keep learning even at my seasoned age.
That mini-tape from a big tape trick is the best ever! I used it to "beef up" my connectors on some outdoor Christmas stuff. I wonder how many people would trade places with McCoy and learn and watch and appreciate?! Great video Eric!
Nice video on this. I've been taking in a ton of your Chevy/GMC truck/suv videos since I own a 2012 Yukon. It's not particularly crusty fortunately but as she ages more and problems arise I'll have a nice knowledge-base to rely upon. Well done, sir.
McCoy, you have the best instructor ( a true Master), Eric is by far the most knowledgeable from experience of any one I have had the pleasure to come across in my 80 years of observing!! Eric excels in the ability to teach which in itself rare. Eric delivers very instructional courses so soak it all in. You are Blessed to be in his tutelage.
Where I used to work before retirement, the aftermarket upfitters used to like pin 16 for power to their units. Of course a 10 amp fuse (Ford truck) didn't last long, so I installed a Napa fuse holder like yours and left pin 16 with it's own 10 amp fuse for Diagnostics and Smog Test. Good one Mr. O.
This is the same vehicle I have so, I will save this one for future reference. We live in Southern Indiana so we don't have the level of salt issues that you have but, we have some. Good tape tip.
For taping in an even tighter spot, use your 3M Super33 tape and wrap a "normal" (non heat-shrink) butt connector. It's way easier when repairing insulation in a harness with lots of wires in really tight spots.
Watching your videos I've upgrading to a RUclips (MASTER) Certified mechanic. Put brakes on my wifes 2012 murano today after watching your video last night. Thanks again for all you do Sir.
Freaking awesome work Eric, crazy how the most simplest things can fix a big problem, like getting your vehicle inspected, here in western Maryland you only have to get 1 inspection, or you can by pass an inspection if your getting the vehicle from a family member, there's a paper online , print it out an it's confirming that the vehicle was gifted to you from a family member, bingo bangooo no inspection needed, thanks for sharing bud, an I look forward to seeing the next video 🇺🇲🤙💪👌✊👍
I've used the mini-roll trick several times. It also works for Teflon pipe thread tape. In a pinch you can use your fingertip too, just make sure you wrap it on the correct direction, haha.
Had an extra half-day before a flight yesterday and spent it driving around upstate PRNY. It's beautiful country, Eric! And they really do seem to issue a GM pickup to every resident.
Was thinking about Mr O this afternoon while I was upgrading and relocating the battery in my Kawasaki Mule. I was all alone but the smart ass commentary must be contagious. Had the garage door open and a few turkeys stuck their heads in wondering what the heck was going on.
Hi Eric, being an old man and having old tricks back in the day, but I suppose you do know this trick? When the posts + _ were full of corrosion after disconnecting I would boil a kettle pour it over the terminals battery and it would all disappear like magic?😂 I would then smear them with vaseline no more problems? Now’s the future it was to easy back then unlike now! I very much like how you work with your customers not only, but you do an excellent job your very Particular and careful when your are finished making sure that it’s done and cleaned for your client’s. There are a few about who are proud of what they do and you’re one of them pal! Good job!!!
Great video Eric and I'd love to be in that young mans shoes to learn from you. I love the tape on a socket trick I've used that several times after seeing you do it years ago...
Excellent fix. "Bones" was doing a good job as an assistant, lol. Boy, y'all sure have the green puss and rust up there. I'm glad it's not that bad down south here in Tennessee. Stay safe, and God bless
Having worked at SMA beside Eric myself for a few years staring in 2019 I can honestly say there is no better person to learn from! Toyota Rav4 Crank, No Start!
I'm jealous of that young mans opportunity to learn from a Master.
Bonus - He's learning to be a content creator!
He is learning to be the next real McCoy.
Same
Others have beaten me to it, but having a trusted assistant named McCoy just screams calling him "Bones", which naturally makes you Captain Eric of the Starship Avocaprise 😁. Thanks as always, Eric!
If Eric worked for NASA in 1970 Jim Lovell would have been the 5th man to walk on the moon (and today _nobody_ would know who he is)
Going way back Pre-Star Trek, you could have called him The Real!
Educating a young person who really wants to learn is a very gratifying experience.
McCoy you are so fortunate to be able to work with a professional like Eric. McCoy is a lucky kid. Learning from one of the best. Soak it all up kid.
An efficient diagnosis and a rock solid fix. What's not to like? The young man is certainly getting an education of the highest caliber!
Let's get it over with Eric ....just start calling McCoy "BONES" you know you want to !😂😂😂😂😂
Mc Coy tests the fuse .... "It's dead Jim"...
@@tonynicholson3328 And "Scottie" laments, 'Cap'n, I can't get no power'.
He's a mechanic not a Doctor!
"Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!!"
But is he the real Mccoy?
Came across a similar situation with my daughters Escalade. Turns out a penny had dropped in the accessory outlet in the center console and popped the fuse.

I was waiting for Mr.Biggey RAT to jump out when he pulled the top off that fuse box 😮.
Yeah, if it was me, I wouldn't have gone anywhere near that fuse box. I would have just run a new wire to the data connector and tied it in as Eric did. He got lucky on this one but I've seen too many of those fuse boxes just fall apart when you try to remove them.
a man's got to know his limits!

Showing McCoy that trick that MeeMaw taught you, now he can pass that on to his grandkids someday 😅
Glad to help
Man I've learned so much watching your videos, just wanted to say thank you. Use to live in Brentwood NY, now living in Florida. God bless
McCoy just learned problem solving skills and logical repair techniques that have wide application for electrical system corrosion issues common in your neck of the woods. Good man, Mr. O.
This 14 Yukon will be going to the Great Junkyard in the Sky after this Winter 🥶 Season in the Salt Belt of NY. Prayers for this Big GMC Behemoth. 👍🙏
"See the USA, in your broken down Chevrolet...Eric is asking you to call"
🎶🎵🎶😂😂😂
Hard to believe people keep their cars so dirty. You live in it keep it clean!!
Saved another one (economically for the owner); good vibes, as always.

Obwan Nobi
I am always amazed when I watch your specialty mechanics kicking gear. You truly are a master mecanic thanks for the video
I had McCoys job in the late 60's , the skills I learned from a great mechanic are still with me and I think of him every time I use them !
What I love about this channel teaching and getting to it fast
That mini-tape from a big tape trick is the best ever! I used it to "beef up" my connectors on some outdoor Christmas stuff. I wonder how many people would trade places with McCoy and learn and watch and appreciate?! Great video Eric!
A great professional job with no theater, thank you! You are one of the best!
Eric is jamming along & getting things knocked out. Love these videos!
I love watching Eric's diagnostic strategy
McCoy fortunate to be working with great teacher. Thanks for the video
You sir are the man when it comes to electrical diagnostics, your knowledge is amazing!
you are great at finding the easy but professional solution
Simple but effective. Well done and thanks for sharing. 👍
20 minutes or less is my sweet spot for videos. Thanks for the clean edits
As long as you're happy, that's all that matters.
That was a great repair Mr. O This shows us to "think outside of the box"
Hi, Mr. O. Great detective work. Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!
Learn all you can McCoy !. Master teacher right in front of you
Your electrical repairs are so nice I remember scotch locks on trailer wiring underneath pickups I've purchased
Smart fix. Experience and logic wins again. Nice work.
Nice video on this. I've been taking in a ton of your Chevy/GMC truck/suv videos since I own a 2012 Yukon. It's not particularly crusty fortunately but as she ages more and problems arise I'll have a nice knowledge-base to rely upon. Well done, sir.
McCoy will learn more from you then any text book being hands on and with all your knowledge good luck to that young man wishing him well
Very ingenious! Great repair.
Great video. Basic electronic troubleshooting for the beginner.

Great job as always Eric! I wish I could find a technician as good as you near me in rural West Texas! 🚀 ⛽
Perfect repair. Absolutely perfect.
Brilliant diagnosis and fix!
Macoy is a lucky man to have you as a teacher
Good one Eric !..and thanks to McCoy for the assistance
watching you and a dog with a bone are both entertaining. Love it.
I can’t count how many of these GM boxes Eric has either had to outright replace or clean puss out of. Expert GM diagnostics at SMA.
I love to learn new tricks, you are the master !! It is getting very difficult to handle small connections because of my arthritis.!
Ditto I’m 67 in July but mines been made worse because of health issues, poor nutrition all my life because of very little intestines
Nice video and easy diagnosis. Pulling that fuse box is like trying to cross a minefield with a pogo stick. 🤣🤣
Good job, Eric good job, and I see you're teaching another student. That's good. He's learning from one of the best thank you again

Breaking out the fancy test light at SMA !
Thanks for the video Eric. Always a treat.
Watching your videos I've upgrading to a RUclips (MASTER) Certified mechanic. Put brakes on my wifes 2012 murano today after watching your video last night. Thanks again for all you do Sir.
You make it look easy. Hope the weather is being kind to you all in the Great White North.

Great video and thank you good sir!
Bones and Scotty fixing the Enterprise!
good repair. thats exatly how i would have i done it. great video!
That's a good looking fix. The label even gives it that OEM feel.
Short and sweet. Excellent!
Good morning! Another great SMA video! 👍🏻👍🏻
Great diag and fix! Thanks for shaing!
Tell McCoy he did a great job with the repair. Good to see a little competence on your channel.
I tried the mini-roll, works so well❕
I've used the mini-roll trick several times. It also works for Teflon pipe thread tape. In a pinch you can use your fingertip too, just make sure you wrap it on the correct direction, haha.

When that vehicle ends up at the 'crusher', that repair will be in perfect condition!
Great video ! Nice reference to Schrödinger's cat !!
Another great electrical diagnosis and repair. Eric you are a great teacher.
Great video Eric thank you sir!
Nice work Eric, it doesn’t take much to make a little rust..
Another Great one Eric.
Another entertaining vid Eric, thanks mate
Great video. You are a master diagnostician! Like Dr House.
Great video to ride along on!!!
That's a great tip on the mini tape roll!!! I could've used it just the other day!
Perfect way to get er done!
Good find and repair
Great fix! Youre awesome
Eric, Thank you.
It's only simple to you because you know what you're doing. 😊
Hi Eric, being an old man and having old tricks back in the day, but I suppose you do know this trick?

Great video Eric and I'd love to be in that young mans shoes to learn from you. I love the tape on a socket trick I've used that several times after seeing you do it years ago...
McCoy hit the lottery by having Eric as his mentor.
Yes I like the alternate method you did
You’re a good mechanic Eric O
I like the way you were able to juxtapose Pandora's box with Schrodinger's cat.
Well we could have opened both boxes so I imposed a medley of metaphors 🙄
Excellent fix. "Bones" was doing a good job as an assistant, lol. Boy, y'all sure have the green puss and rust up there. I'm glad it's not that bad down south here in Tennessee. Stay safe, and God bless
