My thoughts on ranking them based on English is: 1. Tiffany - Helps other members by translating it to English and it is helpful for her to understand English better. 2. Jessica - Helps others members to translate but she doesn't speak much English because she is shy and Tiffany helps her out. 3. Sooyoung - She is getting better, understands it better. 4. Seohyun - Her pronunciation is getting better, getting her confidence speaking in English. 5. Sunny or Taeyeon - They are just in the same level, they both understands English but they are intermediate level. 6. Yoona - Not confident speaking English but she knows how to introduced her self. 7. Hyoyeon once joined a show about learning to speak english. She wasn't the best student but she did okay. Tiffany has been very helpful and influential to her sisters because it improved at least their level of understanding the language and as K-Pop was becoming a global thing it made the other members work hard in their own ways to even learn to speak or even write because they realize it will open a lot of opportunities for them.

Taeyeon seems just pronouced English well because of study many times. But Sunny borns in USA and she may know how to speak in more fluent English. Seohyun also pronouced well too though she is not the best.

Taeyeon to me has better pronunciation than both Sooyoung and Seohyun, but her knowledge of English isn't nearly as good. Sooyoung can make coherent and full sentences quickly and is honestly pretty close to fluent. Why do you think she was chosen to sit with Jessica and Tiffany during that one American interview?
For me,Sica and Fany are better than the rest and there's no reason which one of two is better in English. Both were living in America for more than 10 years so their language efficiency is the same. The only difference is Fany speaks faster with more excitement and confidence like a native but Sica usually speaks slowly and considerably which doesn't mean she can't speak fluently like an American. We can't define the language efficiency with the rate of tone cause not everyone in the US speaks with the same rate of tone. You can see how Sica speaks in English in her most recent interviews in English. She always speaks slowly in considerable way. That doesn't sound she can't speak in English like a native. If you can speak in English fluently with correct pronunciation,that means you're able to speak. Rate of tone is less important than anything.
Sure! Tiffany is somehow similar to USA so she undoubtedly is the best and takes the role of English communications. But I believe that other Korean members had tried their best.

If you look back on your own life, you can safely say you spoke better English in 9th grade than in 5th grade. 2. Jessica - However, in recent years, since Jessica left SNSD, she has been promoting her fashion line to foreign clients, meaning she speaks way more English than before. As a result, her English has improved immensely and if you watch her in interviews now, her English is very natural as opposed to a few years ago. 3. Sooyoung - Although the video may not show her skills, Sooyoung was often sent with Jessica & Tiffany to English interviews while they were promoting in the US. I presume there is a reason why SM felt Sooyoung was capable enough to hold her own in an English interview. 4. Seohyun - According to the members, Seohyun also has reasonably good English and she continues to improve throughout the years. Being studious, she continues to practice her English. 5. Taeyeon - She doesn't speak much English in public, but apparently, she doesn't speak English publicly because she's too shy. For all we know, Taeyeon secretly has amazing English skills, and there's reason to believe she has decent English as she has performed numerous songs in English. 6. Sunny - She doesn't know much English, but when it comes time for her to sing or speak in English, she tries really hard. Being born in the US, she has often stated that she wishes she had stayed in the US longer so she could have learned English. It truly seems like a sore spot for her, so because of it, she does put effort into English. 7. Yoona, Hyoyeon, and Yuri - I think their English skills are pretty even, AKA not very good. You should’ve ranked tae and sunny together. They both understand more than basic english and can speak english as well. Hyo and yul have been learning english lately so they should be ranked separately from yoona. Yoona’s better at chinese as compared with english.
Jessica and Tiffany were both born in America, and are equal English speakers. Tiffany has more of an accent, though. Taeyeon memorizes english lines and pronounces her English songs perfectly, but when speaking is not as good (we use different parts of our brains when singing or talking!). Seohyun and SooYoung also speak English pretty well but appear to be going through translating it in their heads before answering whenever mixed up in conversation. The rest are about equal, but all are much better than back in 2007 when they took their trip to NYC for the magazine job. That said, their English is better than my Korean.
Since Tiffany comes from California, she has the Californian accent. To me, she has none at all since I also come from California! Whereas Jessica, I think she is the one with the accent. It all depends where you're from.

Maybe because Jessica had been living in Korea for longer than Tiffany had and so she started to come across as less confident and fluent in her speech, sometimes with slightly odd pronunciation? Look up 'language attrition' - you can start to lose language skills even in your native language if you don't use it regularly (it won't just disappear, but it will come less naturally to you over time). That said, she seems a lot more confident and fluent in English interviews nowadays, so either it was confidence issues/Tiffany being a bit more keen to talk and overshadowing her, or maybe it's because she's been spending more time in the US lately and maybe talks to her boyfriend in English, etc. Hard to say what the case is.
SoSoshiHyo I think that it's not that she lost confidence but rather that Jessica is a pretty shy and reserved person whereas Tiffany is more extroverted and outgoing, so obviously she talks more, whether it be Korean or English. The reason why she speaks more confidently now is because she's on her own and no one can speak in her place, you know.

I do think it's also true that she more she's around English as opposed to Korean, the easier she finds it to switch and just revert back to her English fluency. I'm an introvert too and I don't know if it's related to being introverted, but I find it really difficult to switch between English and French, even though I'm fluent in both and was raised speaking them both. For example, if I'm reading in French and someone starts talking to me in English, it's hard to switch immediately and my English comes up kind of garbled. Tiffany seems to switch at will without any transition issue and I'm so in awe of that! I think Jessica seems to find it hard to switch, but it's hard to tell if that's just because she likes to pause before she speaks anyway. In videos where she's speaking in English but in Korea or after singing in Korean, her pronunciation and accent seem a bit stilted though, if you compare that to recent English interviews.

Taeyeon (I wanted to rank her higher because her pronounciaton is so on point SHE CAN EVEN PRONOUNCE HER R'S PROPERLY AND HER ACCENT IS THE BEST OUT OF ALL THE NON AMERICAN MEMBERS but I don't think she has a very large vocabulary I think she understands more than she can speak though) 6. Sunny (decent prounciation and I also think she understands more than she can speak) 7/8/9. Yuri/Hyoyeon/Yoona (all have a very very limited vocabulary especially Yoona. Hyoyeon and Yuri seem to be able to speak more English than Yoona but Yoona has decent pronounciation and a decent accent. Although maybe Yoona is just uncomfortable and too afraid to make mistakes when speaking English so she doesn't speak it all)

Cris Rodriguez Sunny didn't actually live long enough in America to actually develop her English there. Her family moved when she was an infant, eventually settling in South Korea, which probably explains why she's not third on this list. Her pronunciation is good for a Korean, though.

I can tell that Jessica is good in English. You haven't seen/hear her speaking English a lot of times especially in there world tour concert because of tiffany. Base of what I saw sometimes tiffany interrupt Jessica when she's talking to the crowd and it's a little bet annoying. Sorry for my bad comment . I love Snsd but I don't like when the person who's out of place sometimes.
When it comes to singing, they all sound great and good, but when talking in english, Tiffany and Jessica is always taking it seriously while the other rest just act dumb, stupid, lame, dorky, cute, and funny. That's why I love them!
Jessica and Tiffany are both great! it's just that Jessica is very great at speaking english and doesn't really get the chance to because Tiffany always interrupts her and likes to show off her skills at it. But results are they are both good at it. Good Job Jessica!

I think if Jessica spent a few months just living in the states she would quickly get very comfortable with speaking English again and would probably be more comfortable speaking it than Korean if she's not already, because it is her first language afterall.
Alondra Velasquez actually she had a lot of trouble with Korean and didnt really understand it and had a lot of problems speaking it. she said it on a show. she admitted to being comfortable with English
Jessica & Tiffany are fluent in English, I think SooYoung should be 3rd because shes pretty close to fluent & understands way more than the others she just has a pretty thick accent. Taeyon doesn't speak English however, her pronunciations are really good even though she doesn't understand much of the language.
I think I'd pretty much agree with this but not too sure about the order with Seohyun and Taeyeon (I havent seen a lot of videos of Taeyeon speaking/singing english so i cant really judge lol but I have of Seohyun and i know she pronounces her words quite well) in terms of being able to have a conversation in English though would Sooyoung be 3rd?
I would rank it a little different. 1) Tiffany more then Jessica because she went to Korea at a later time unlike Jessica who left at 11 if I remember correctly. 2) Seo for the fact that she's really smart and probably studied the language, plus her pronunciation is really good. 3) Taeyeon more so because she lives with Tiffany so she'd definitely pick it up, she's also the group leader so I assume knowing how to communicate in different languages is kind of a necessity for her, even if there are fluent speakers in the group she ends up answering the promotional questions and ending the interviews. 4) Sunny/Sooyoung are tied for me. They both have great communicating skills and good understandable pronunciations. Plus Sunny roommates with Tiffany as well as Taeyeon so she's bound to have picked it up. 5) Yoona has good pronunciation but not a lot of vocabulary, nothing studying can't solve. 6) Yuri/Hyo for me. They both have weak vocabulary and difficult pronunciation.
i dont think you can really compare tiffany and jessica's english since both are really good and both are from america . im from america as well , and me and my friends (both chinese) , we can't compare who's english better cuz it sounds the sameish .

I think jessica is just generally to lazy to speek a lot of english hehe :) Otherwise 1st place for me would have been a tie between her and tiffany. I think Tiffany and Jessica should be tied at number one as they are both fluent in English. Jessica was just too shy to speak so Tiffany does almost everything most of the time.
What's amazing to me is it doesn't matter how good their English is, what does matter is the fact that most of the English speaking world seems to love them. In spite of the fact, that most English speaking people can't understand any Korean at all. Myself included. Truly cool if you think about.
hyoyeon can speak english, but she has an accent, so everyone thinks she is bad... like on instagram she is the only one of the other members (sunny, taeyeon, yuri, sooyoung) who writes in english (yeah not always but the most of her photos, i have notice this the first when i found out hyoyeon has instagram) :))
The first would have to be Tiffany because she has a better pronunciations and accent. It's because she completely grew up with American english and she had to learn korean to make her korean better and she uses english more. Jessica on the other hand also grew up with american english but she also speaks korean often. She speaks english 60% and korean 40% but Tiffany completely uses english with maybe a 10% korean? Haha that's what i've known so far. I love both of them though. They're awesome! :)
Actually Tiffany's also born in same hospital as Jessica in America. Her family still lives in America. And Sica was trained when she was 10 in Korea. But she still use english conversation with her family. Then, about Seohyun, she's actually learn english all night before sleep.

Sunny was born in the U.S but when she was an infant she moved to the Middle East from there she moved to Korea. Although I do think she has better English than this video gives her credit for Sunny wasn't speaking English while she was in the USA.
I agree with this list pretty much, Jessica still sings with a Korean accent which is interesting since Korean is her second language. It makes sense for Tiffany to be first since she doesn't sing with an accent and I believe in another video she was ranked 9 in Korean
I personally do think Tiffany is number 1, Jessica is starting to get a bit of an accent, Tiffany is always the one they rely on when English is needed. Sooyoung can now definitely be higher up there. When they were in New York she was able to go with Tiffany and Jessica to interviews and whatnot and speak pretty fluent English. :)
Taeyeon's english is really good like seriously, when I first knew the members one by one I thought she was even american like living in the states, I can't hear an accent at all, maybe I'm just bias but trust me, Everytime she speaks english I thought she was living in the states.

Basically, Tiff and Jess will be the first one since they are born and raised in States but for my second place i'll go with Taeyeon, she's not that fluent but her diction and accent is very good, next is Sunny, eventhough she's born in States, she wasn't raised there so she didn't get the chance to learn english as her first language, but for her pronounciation she's also good, next is Seohyun, we all know she's smart its just that sometimes, her accent is awkward or whatever, then Sooyoung and the other members isn't good.

6. Sunny - She doesn't know much English, but when it comes time for her to sing or speak in English, she tries really hard. Being born in the US, she has often stated that she wishes she had stayed in the US longer so she could have learned English. It truly seems like a sore spot for her, so because of it, she does put effort into English.
7. Yoona, Hyoyeon, and Yuri - I think their English skills are pretty even, AKA not very good. But that's okay! (:

Jessica and Tiffany were both born in America, and are equal English speakers. Tiffany has more of an accent, though. Taeyeon memorizes english lines and pronounces her English songs perfectly, but when speaking is not as good (we use different parts of our brains when singing or talking!). Seohyun and SooYoung also speak English pretty well but appear to be going through translating it in their heads before answering whenever mixed up in conversation. The rest are about equal, but all are much better than back in 2007 when they took their trip to NYC for the magazine job. That said, their English is better than my Korean.
Since Tiffany comes from California, she has the Californian accent. To me, she has none at all since I also come from California! Whereas Jessica, I think she is the one with the accent. It all depends where you're from.
Don't forget Sunny. Sunny was born in LA, moved to Kuwait, then moved to Korea.
I believe Sunny was born here yes, but moved to Kuwait when she was 6 days old. I don't think she had any chance to pick up much English!

How do you exactly compare Jessica and Tiffany if they're both natives...?
노수연 Maybe grammar, but the speed is just a personal thing, I think.
Maybe because Jessica had been living in Korea for longer than Tiffany had and so she started to come across as less confident and fluent in her speech, sometimes with slightly odd pronunciation? Look up 'language attrition' - you can start to lose language skills even in your native language if you don't use it regularly (it won't just disappear, but it will come less naturally to you over time). That said, she seems a lot more confident and fluent in English interviews nowadays, so either it was confidence issues/Tiffany being a bit more keen to talk and overshadowing her, or maybe it's because she's been spending more time in the US lately and maybe talks to her boyfriend in English, etc. Hard to say what the case is.
SoSoshiHyo I think that it's not that she lost confidence but rather that Jessica is a pretty shy and reserved person whereas Tiffany is more extroverted and outgoing, so obviously she talks more, whether it be Korean or English. The reason why she speaks more confidently now is because she's on her own and no one can speak in her place, you know.
+Megabix Yeah, I was thinking that might be the case. I do think it's also true that she more she's around English as opposed to Korean, the easier she finds it to switch and just revert back to her English fluency. I'm an introvert too and I don't know if it's related to being introverted, but I find it really difficult to switch between English and French, even though I'm fluent in both and was raised speaking them both. For example, if I'm reading in French and someone starts talking to me in English, it's hard to switch immediately and my English comes up kind of garbled. Tiffany seems to switch at will without any transition issue and I'm so in awe of that! I think Jessica seems to find it hard to switch, but it's hard to tell if that's just because she likes to pause before she speaks anyway. In videos where she's speaking in English but in Korea or after singing in Korean, her pronunciation and accent seem a bit stilted though, if you compare that to recent English interviews.

I can tell that Jessica is good in English. You haven't seen/hear her speaking English a lot of times especially in there world tour concert because of tiffany. Base of what I saw sometimes tiffany interrupt Jessica when she's talking to the crowd and it's a little bet annoying. Sorry for my bad comment . I think if Jessica spent a few months just living in the states she would quickly get very comfortable with speaking English again and would probably be more comfortable speaking it than Korean if she's not already, because it is her first language afterall.
Alondra Velasquez actually she had a lot of trouble with Korean and didnt really understand it and had a lot of problems speaking it. she said it on a show. she admitted to being comfortable with English
Jessica & Tiffany are fluent in English, I think SooYoung should be 3rd because shes pretty close to fluent & understands way more than the others she just has a pretty thick accent. Taeyon doesn't speak English however, her pronunciations are really good even though she doesn't understand much of the language.

Since English is my first language I think it is... buuuut, you're probably right because you know me so well.
I would rank it a little different.
1) Tiffany more then Jessica because she went to Korea at a later time unlike Jessica who left at 11 if I remember correctly.
2) Seo for the fact that she's really smart and probably studied the language, plus her pronunciation is really good.
3) Taeyeon more so because she lives with Tiffany so she'd definitely pick it up, she's also the group leader so I assume knowing how to communicate in different languages is kind of a necessity for her, even if there are fluent speakers in the group she ends up answering the promotional questions and ending the interviews.
4) Sunny/Sooyoung are tied for me. They both have great communicating skills and good understandable pronunciations. Plus Sunny roommates with Tiffany as well as Taeyeon so she's bound to have picked it up.
5) Yoona has good pronunciation but not a lot of vocabulary, nothing studying can't solve.
6) Yuri/Hyo for me. They both have weak vocabulary and difficult pronunciation.
Their English is coming along good with more practice & they'll be just like Tiffny & Jessica. 9♥

What's amazing to me is it doesn't matter how good their English is, what does matter is the fact that most of the English speaking world seems to love them.

hyoyeon can speak english, but she has an accent, so everyone thinks she is bad... like on instagram she is the only one of the other members (sunny, taeyeon, yuri, sooyoung) who writes in english (yeah not always but the most of her photos, i have notice this the first when i found out hyoyeon has instagram) :))
The first would have to be Tiffany because she has a better pronunciations and accent. It's because she completely grew up with American english and she had to learn korean to make her korean better and she uses english more. Jessica on the other hand also grew up with american english but she also speaks korean often. She speaks english 60% and korean 40% but Tiffany completely uses english with maybe a 10% korean? Haha that's what i've known so far. I love both of them though. They're awesome! :)
