Another video with the goal to help you prepare for your own Iceland trip. This format of tips & advice is new to me so I'm very curious to hear your opinion! Next week I'll sum up the series with my top 10 places to see in Iceland.
Hi Steve, there is one item you may want to include on the list. A PLB/EPIRB will save your life anywhere in the world especially in Iceland if you crash the car or become injured hiking. Happy travels
BackPacker Steve hi Steve. There are several types. A SPOT tracker is essentially a gps tracker that sends out a “ping” every few minutes to let your family / friends / fans on a web page know where you are in real time. You can send and receive messages from it too. And EPIRB is a device used by ships and planes to alert satellites flying overhead of serious danger. A PLB (personal locator beacon) is what you’ll best need. It’s a device similar in size to an iPhone that you wear around your neck / fit in pocket / backpack. If your car is involved in a serious accident in a remote location or if you are hiking in a Forrest / remote deserted island etc and you or your mates are seriously injured or ill.... just activate the beacon and rescue services will know where you are. I fly planes and sail boats and I have a PLB attached to me all the time. There is no set up fee or monthly charge.... however the cost to buy the unit is around €250 approximately. The battery lasts around 5 ish years before replacing is necessary. This will save your life for sure. If you need help on this just mail me back... I’ll locate the PLB I use and mail you back soon
Hi again Steve.... here is the you tube link to explain it all. I realise it’s a UK based video.... however, there will be a similar setup and video for Germany. Essentially the PLB works worldwide/ pole to pole / any country/ any river/ anywhere on earth. There are loads of PLB on the market. Just hunt them down on amazon or marine or hiking websites. By law you have to register it with your name and details etc etc.... it’s the best €250 you’ll ever spend. ruclips.net/video/Ov6rSV60it4/видео.html
Hi again Steve..... just to let you know the PLB that I use when I’m flying / sailing is the McMurdo fastfind 220PLB. I just looked it up and the amazon cost is around £290.00. They have another product called McMurdo Fastfind Ranger for around £190. Each one does the same.... just read the literature to decide the best one for you (I think the £290 model is watertight???) enjoy your travels
My husband and I returned from Iceland two days ago. The most important things we packed were wine and vodka. I took a box of wine (3 liters) and he took about half a liter of vodka for 4 days. We got take-out or bought sandwiches from Bonus or Kronan. Also, we never wore our clothes for very cold weather as it was 60 degrees one day!
I can't find a decent answer for this question. I want to know what size pack to bring for a two week trip in Iceland. We will take a bit of a roadtrip but we will mostly be sleeping outdoors or in Hostels. So our gear will be mostly on our person. My friend has an 80L but I don't want to get one that big unless I need to. I want to ask you which packsize would work best from min to max. A.e 65-80L.
I love your Iceland series, we are leaving this June for Iceland for 14days, and your series is a great help, we watched it multiple times and we are basing our trip closely to what you have done. Question tho, about renting a car in Iceland, would a US driver license be ok to rent a car? Or do we need a international driver license?
+Froilan Ascano thanks, that is awesome! Your US driver license is recognized and will work in Iceland. You only need to be 21 to rent a car (23 for a 4WD). Have fun there!
Thanks so much for the vid and tips. the longest lens i have is only 85mm... did you use long teles (xx-200mm) alot? i shoot more photos than videos :)
For most of the landscape shots your lense is totally fine..i actually used the wide angle more often especially at the waterfalls (and there are a lot of waterfalls! haha)!

Hey Rob. Good point - never used one of those. It is a GPS device which tracks your position, right?!

What is the brand name of the daypack that you used for your drone and camera gear ?
I think it's a Manfrotto drone backpack ;)
What tripod did you use?
Is snorkelling good in Iceland?
What waterfall is that at 8:55?
the best would be to forget the drone....
