  • Are you tired of manually loading and aiming your nerf gun? Well, say goodbye to those tedious days and hello to the future of nerf warfare!
    In this video, I'll be building a self-loading nerf turret that uses an Arduino Mega microcontroller and an OpenMV camera to track faces. With this bad boy, you'll be able to automatically target and shoot your friends and family in the face (with nerf darts, of course) in no time at all.

    Exceptional work!, Not only on the project but the video itself. I found the speed and multiple steps of the machine's first shot very funny while being blown away by its Rube Goldburg with a degree-style mechanical design. The idea that you challenged yourself to load and cock the blaster really makes this unique and next level over than much simpler nerf turrets out there. I've Subscribed, and eagerly await your next work (no pressure to rush though)..now just tell me where to send the money so I can build my own.

    Hi, this is honestly one of the best videos that I've seen about projects like this! I love the level of integration and the design of the project. I'm just starting out in electronics, and I have been thinking about a project just like this, except with flywheels.
    May I ask how you designed everything? what software did you use and what is the general process of making something like this? How do you plan things out ahead of time so they all work together? Thanks!!

    • @pb.projectbox
      @pb.projectbox  Год назад +1

      I'm glad you liked it!
      I used SolidWorks to design everything but it's not the most accessible. Fusion 360 is a good alternative with plenty of tutorials. As far as the general design process, I start with an issue that needs to be solved and sketch out a few ideas. From there I design my favorite idea and test it out and make iterative changes based on what worked and what didn't. What I didn't show in this video was all of the parts that didn't work haha. Most of the parts for this were remade 2 or 3 times with some of the more complicated parts being redone 4 or 5 times. Basically start small, test as you go, and build upon what works.
      It may look like it went together flawlessly the first time, but it didn't. I'll try and show more of my design process and failures for my next video.

    This is very cool. I was thinking of doing something similar and that's how I found this video. I don't have a 3D printer though, or any experience with arduino or powering servos like that. Just some coding experience. Do you happen to have a rough estimate on how much the parts cost was to make this (minus the 3D printing stuff). I have an arduino uno, but that's about it. Also any links to the facial recognition model.
    Keep it up and can't wait to see the next version.

    • @pb.projectbox
      @pb.projectbox  Год назад

      The cost of electronics for my turret was about $250. Taking out the dart loading components, the distance sensor, the batteries, and the Arduino Mega, the price goes down to about $150 with most of that cost going towards the ~$80 OpenMV H7 camera and the two $20 Zoskay servos.
      The developers of the OpenMV camera have their own programming IDE with a ton of example scripts. I basically combined two of their example scripts to get my camera to work. You can find more information on the camera on their website (openmv.io/) or their RUclips channel (www.youtube.com/@OpenMVLLC)
      You could definitely make a face tracking pan and tilt with a couple servos and some hot glue. I'd recommend checking out this video to get started: ruclips.net/video/bOXZgV0lVOY/видео.html&ab_channel=GlevoTec
      I'd also recommend checking out adafruit.com. They have tons of parts and tons of tutorials for beginners.

    • @Jkauppa

      why not just normal spring load clip, with a tray, maybe even going up the side of the launch chamber, then sideways push-in, to keep stuff not crushing in wrong places
